Chaotic System: A Former Assassin in the Game of the Gods

For too long, Riku was content with the simple life of a sushi chef. Having left behind the hectic life of an assassin, his knife now only knows the flesh of fish and food as he hones his craft with both the poor and rich alike. His skills translated well into running his restaurant, his professionalism and dedication to having a perfect record refusing to leave him even in such a low stakes job as running a sushi restaurant.  But then, just as he was cleaning up, he was whisked away to participate in a game that would determine the new god of all existence. While lacking in knowledge about his new surroundings, Riku is still a professional through and through. Offered with the bounty of having his unconditional wishes granted, the Goddess that summoned him wishes for him to win her this game. Well, then he'll just have to make sure that their victory will be as complete as he could possibly make it... Against fantastical beasts and opponent Champions, his skills as an assassin and a combatant will be put to the test. He'll just have to make this Chaotic System actually work to his favor instead of it randomly spitting out nonsensical situational powers that he couldn't use. *** The Deep Blue... The home of the Gods... For eons, the Thirteen Gods have lived together in harmony together with the God Father within the Deep Blue's calm waters. Together, they watched over the universe, content with simply observing as they all worked in tandem with their respective aspects to exact their Father's will. That was, until the God Father died without explanation, and His power locked away until a successor was chosen among His children. Left with an ultimatum, the Thirteen Gods argued on who should inherit their Father's power. Eventually, the arguments became clashes, and the gods eventually realized that them fighting to the death would spell the end of the world. Thus, an agreement was formed. Each of the Thirteen Gods would choose a champion from the sea of souls to fight on their behalf. These champions would brave the Deep Blue's dangers to reach the very bottom of its depths, and whoever gets there first would grant their patron god the right to inherit the God Father's power. Or at least, that was the original agreement. One goddess chose to defy her siblings, deciding to take matters into her own hands by choosing a former assassin-turned-sushi chef as her Champion. Granting him a power well beyond the rules of the game, she is certain that Riku would be the one to end her siblings' endless debates. After all, a goddess of chaos need not to follow the rules...

52 Chaotic Reroll

For a few more moments, Riku chased after Shizu, his knife singing through both air and cloth as he did his best to remain telegraphed with his attacks. He didn't want to kill his only ally, but he also didn't want to make his justice look weak in front of the god judging them. To her credit, Shizu was actually starting to fight back again, her aim improving rapidly even as she was now on the defensive side of the fight as opposed to be on the offensive. She had gotten his hint after a few more pointed looks, and thankfully, she finally shut up in favor of actually playacting their justice again.

Though, her ever increasing state of undress made her callouts lose a bit of strength with how much she was blushing.

"Chase me all you want, you'll never show me your justice!" Shizu yelled, her cheeks flushed red as she did her best to ignore her tattered skirt. "I'm not going to lose to your weak resolve!"

Riku smirked at those words even as her fiery cards set the floor on fire behind him. If she really wanted to act, she really knew what to do. Her potential to learn was just that insane, and he honestly would've killed her early if she ever showed up in his line of work on the opposite side of the battlefield if he knew her of her ability to adapt at frightening speeds. Still, she was his ally at the moment, which meant that he just had to teach her that fighting him was an impossible notion. Not that it was already apparent then and now, but after the stunt she just pulled on him, he had to assert that he was still at the top of the hierarchy between them.

"That might be what you think is the case, but that is far from the truth," he coldly stated, a knowing smirk forming on his face as he stopped his attack. "Let me show you how superior my justice actually is."

Taking a deep breath, he mentally tried to call up the power of Chaos that Nyx gave to him. Once more, his knife glowed an anarchic black as he channeled the power of the [Chaotic System].

[BOONS OF CHAOS: CHAOTIC SYSTEM TRUMP ACTIVATED]

[CHAOTIC REROLL COMMENCED]

With the sound of Nyx's robotic voice echoing in his head, Riku returned to his attacks, not even allowing Shizu time to breath before she had to return to jumping away from him again. She had turned quiet again, something that he noted she would usually do whenever she actually started thinking and learning. She must've known that he was going to try something, but with his power clearly not needing him to say things out loud, he had the element of surprise on his side as he just ducked and weaved through her onslaught of cards and projectiles.

"You're planning something," she accused him, her cards starting to accumulate on her hands again as she seemingly planned for something as well. "I cannot allow that to happen."

Riku blinked as he quickly raised his knife up defensively. The last time Shizu stopped attacking, she evoked [Fate's Edict]. She must be planning on doing so again-

[ROLL SUCCESSFUL]

The former assassin almost stopped in his tracks as Nyx's automated voice boomed in his head. On top of that, his view was obscured by what was possibly the most obstructive pop up he had ever seen in his life.

[CHAOS BOOMERANG: ALLOWS THE CHAMPION TO THROW HIS WEAPON AT ANY DIRECTION. THE KNIFE WILL AUTOMATICALLY RETURN TO THE CHAMPION'S HAND. VALID FOR THIS DEPTH ONLY]

Quickly reading through what he got, he could only click his tongue the longer he found himself trying to piece together just what exactly his Trump gave to him. It read like he just got a ranged attack, but not really. There was no indication on how far he could throw his knife, or how it would come back to his hand.

"[Fate's Edict!]"

Still, he had no time to test it out anyway. Instead, Riku aimed at Shizu while she was busy casting her power. It wouldn't expect his attack to interrupt her ability from coming out, but it was still worth a try.

"[The Lov]- Woah!"

To his surprise, the glow surrounding her deck of cards suddenly fizzled out, the image of the card forming above her disintegrating as his knife sailed past her. The dark glow of chaos followed his knife's trail, his favored weapon soaring in an arc through and around Shizu before eventually returning to his hand's grip.

Well then... That was rather useful.

"I see... Our little sister's power is just as unpredictable as ever," Tyche remarked from the sidelines.

"Our little Nyx might be the youngest, but that doesn't mean her power is the weakest of us all," Kali sagely added. "She's just as much of a god as us. We should respect her and what she can do."

Riku let out a small breath as he resumed his ready stance. Staring lightly at Shizu, he could tell that she was already planning on how to counter his new ability. It wasn't as cool or powerful as he would've expected, but it was more than enough for him to work with and easily add to his current arsenal. It was just a cooler throwing knife now. One that allowed him to essentially have unlimited projectiles.

"Y-Your power... I see that your justice has finally shown itself," Shizu shakily proclaimed, her confusion at her own words apparent with how she almost chuckled at herself. "It sure is... something."

"Indeed," Riku chuckled back, uncaring of what they sounded now. "We have a much more even fight now. Is that not also justice?"

Just as he said those words, Themis let out a soft chuckle, and that took both of them by surprise as they did their best not to look at the god judging them. Was it a chuckle of amusement? Of approval? Regardless, they were clearly making progress.

They just had to entertain. What justice truly is was subjective, after all.
