When Death came... (Prolouge)

Eyes wide and breath stuck in her throat, Anna watched helplessly as her mother lay dying on the side of the road. She was gasping for breath, and it reminded her of her pet goldfish when she knocked its bowl over.

"E-everything is going to be o-ok sweetie, y-you're gonna be alright…" her mom said in a breathless voice as red kept on pooling under her head. Her dad was in the car not far from them, she tried getting him to wake up but she can't quite see where he was under all the crumpled metal.

The dying woman tried to fight for her life for a few more moments, but eventually, she succumbed to her internal bleeding. The young daughter, Anna was left all alone on the dark empty road, the remnants of the lethal car crash scattered around her.

She was scared, cold and her mother refused to reply when she called. So she did what any other little girl would've done. Anna cried and cried for what seemed like hours… at least until she felt a cold bony hand settle on top of her head.

When she lifted her eyes up to see who it was, she found herself staring into a pair of blood red orbs underneath an inky black hood. The strange man held a large scythe in His other hand, and she wondered if He was out trick or treating despite Halloween being so far away.

"Don't worry little one…" came His gravelly voice as He gave her head another pat. "It's not your time yet… your parents did well…"

In that instant, she felt the first buds of love bloom inside of her heart as she took comfort in the strange man's kind touch…
