Bright Academy

School for gifted students is an understatement. Bright Academy was a school on an isolated island in the middle of the ocean. Felix Oppong was one of the over thirty students in the forty square kilometer sized college, for good reason...

GOOD JOB, TREVOR

I sensed seeds flying in the air as the monster which was more than two kilometers away threw them.

They scattered all around and started growing into Manchineel trees, even on the streets.

They did this since the monster accelerated time till the time the asphalt wore off and let the soil below be exposed, without accelerating time for the fruits very much, so, by the time the soil was exposed, the fruits were dried and ready to release their seeds.

Then the Time Jump was activated on the seeds to grow.

They started advancing towards Trevor and me so I touched the floor with my hands then sharp stalagmites of ice I c started growing and freezing the undeveloped fruits to temperatures below -100°C, destroying them.

They went on to destroy the advancing trees but the monster just hopped over even the tallest ice blocks, through the smallest of spaces then Time Jumped over the two of us then dropped more seeds over Trevor and me.

I was able to freeze the ones around me in time but Trevor was a sitting duck as the Suicide Plants grew around him.

Suicide plants are a tree native to Australia.

They bear pretty heart shaped leaves which are covered in brittle, transparent spines.

These spines contain a potent venom which causes surging pain for months.

It was given the name since a soldier who was training for the second World War used a leaf of one of these dangerous plants as a toilet paper.

The pain was so intense, he shot himself just to put himself out of his misery.

The spines are so fragile, they easily break off when the plant is disturbed, causing the extended pain sensation.

The pain exists as long as even a single spine is left on the skin.

They can also break off into the air and cause respiratory complications like intense sneezing and nose bleeding.

I widened my eyes and controlled his body not to move since he was about to walk out.

I then caused a whirlwind which carried all the airborne needles away from him but sensed the kangaroo appear too late.

It kicked me and I flew two meters back and hit my head.

Trevor looked at the monster in fear and it looked at him, then tilted its head.

It hopped closer then made all the Suicide Plants wilt, then allowed him to get out and he was confused.

At that moment, he saw me jump, to punch it in the head with a powerful blast of water.

He yelled then ran between it and myself and I spread the water so he wouldn't be hurt but it Time Jumped away.

I looked at him furiously and he chuckled nervously.

I then yelled,"What were you thinking?!"

"I was just wondering..."

"Wondering, of course, you base the fate of the whole of Australia, if not the world on your fantastic assumptions."

He looked down then I squeezed my nose bridge with my fingers angrily then said,"I knew it, you weren't ready."

"What?! No! I..."

"That's enough, I'm taking you home then killing that monster on my own."

"You shouldn't kill it!"

I looked at him, tilted my head then asked why.

"It saved me from those weird plants you made me not touch, I don't know how, but I think it isn't a bad monster."

"Not bad? Of course! I was an idiot to think that a monster which injured dozens of security officers, exploded a military facility which costed millions of dollars and tortured a whole city was bad! It is kind and considerate."

I slapped my forehead sarcastically then he said,"I'm serious, don't you think you could read its mind to find its reason for doing this?"

"Is there any reason good enough for anything to cause this much chaos?"I said, pointing to the forest of deadly plants surrounding ourselves.

"Just check it, and if its reason isn't good enough for you, you can punish me all you want and stop me from going on missions till you're certain I'm ready."

He was betting a lot, I had to give him a chance.

I groaned then shook his hand, I agreed.

I needed help finding the monster since it wasn't anywhere in my two kilometer water vision radius.

I found it in Queensland, causing more trouble.

I flew there with Trevor under the cloudy sky, then he smelled rotten flesh and he was gagged.

I landed and saw all the Voodoo lilies spread around.

I told Trevor to wear some sunglasses then flew to a height of four storeys then parted the clouds all around the city, letting down the sunlight and killing all the direct light hating plants.

These plants were totally toxic when eaten, but the flowers were toxic even to the touch causing skin damage and allergic reactions.

I sensed Trevor running towards the danger as the people ran away from it and was composed, that was what I told him to do.

He got to the monster then it looked at him curiously then I used jet propulsion to land behind him.

It was about to run when Trevor told it I was a friend and I had no idea how it understood.

I waked closer to it and was surprised it didn't attack me, unlike last time.

I looked into its eyes and read its mind, then sensed all its pain.

It thought about how that military facility had used its herd as experimental guinea pigs for their plant weapons, torturing them using the plants it stole.

It wanted them to feel the same way it felt, when something so precious to you was hurt so badly and you could do nothing to help them.

Since it was quite a smart monster, it felt emotions similar to those of humans and could hold grudges.

I looked at Trevor who was looking at me expectantly.

The reason it didn't attack him was that he was just a child, and losing its own joey, it didn't want to be the cause of someone else losing theirs, but it attacked me because I was helping the people it wanted to hurt.

I told it telepathically that revenge wasn't the right way, that we would find a better solution for justice instead of vengeance.

It didn't need to hurt all those innocent people, because it wasn't right to make others feel the way it hated to feel and it agreed.

I turned to Trevor and he asked what I found.

I then said in a tone without emotion,"You were right, good job Trevor."

He smiled.

We had the monster taken to a protected wildlife refuge where it got a new herd of similar looking and acting monsters, we also fined the people in charge of those experiments and had them shut down all operations then worked with the government to prevent anything like that from ever happening again.
