Bright Academy

School for gifted students is an understatement. Bright Academy was a school on an isolated island in the middle of the ocean. Felix Oppong was one of the over thirty students in the forty square kilometer sized college, for good reason...

FELIX THE FIRST

My mom sat, cuffed to a chair, as they took a blood sample with several tubes attached to her back and arms.

When one of the nurses walked in, she started to scream Alex's name and struggle, so the nurse too a sedative to inject into her, but she calmed down, then headbutted the nurse and caught the syringe by the skin of her teeth, she only had a few seconds till the guards realized something wrong, then saw the doors opening...

I started breathing heavily in joy as the drops levitated.

I shouted for joy and all of them shot up like bullets.

They started falling and I took a deep breath and held my hands out.

I felt my arms get heavy and opened one eye after the other to see them floating.

I stayed calm and started moving my hands in circles and the drops started floating upwards in a spiral which grew less in diameter the higher they got and fell when they reached a height of about two meters and started up the spiral again.

I shot my hand up and they combined in the spiral to make a thin tube which shot up at light speed and began raining down.

All of this was really tiring and I already felt sleepy but I pushed on.

I touched the ground and a bubble of water grew around me.

This was the most brain draining task I remembered doing, but it was so beautiful that I didn't want to stop...I couldn't.

The water spun, making the moon shimmer.

Then it all poured down when I was too exhausted to continue. I decided to call it a night.

I groaned the next morning when Cody woke me up.

I hid under the sheets as I wanted a little...a lot more sleep, but he wouldn't hear of it.

I sat up with baggy eyes and slowly marched to the bathroom. When I came out, Jason had a green coloured drink in a glass, for me.

I was confused till he spoke,"This is a special drink I invented to prevent my light from over acting, it will keep your light under control so you don't get sleepy."

' Under control? That will probably mean weaker... ' I reasoned.

"No thanks, I'd rather fight my sleep, I like a good challenge."I answered.

He arched a brow. I wasn't sure if he had read my mind or not but I smiled and went to change.

The guards walked into the room and realized there was a nurse on the floor.

One went to check it out then they heard the doors closing and my mom broke the password receiver.

She went through the cooperation, analysing her surroundings, she realized there was one room that was, not only heavily guarded, but also in the heart of the building.

She took down the guards then kicked down the door and saw several scared scientists and told them to leave, so they did.

It was a CCTV camera control and monitoring room.

She went to a monitor and scanned through everything, going through several different camera feeds till she saw her son and her heart stopped when she saw what they were doing to him, torture in basic words.

She heard people come to her back, telling her to stand down, as she breathed heavily...

That night I went out again and started training. It was still difficult but was slightly easier than before.

I tried a few skills I made up, making a wall out of water and blasting water, it was a good start.

I controlled the water in a bottle to make the bottle jump frantically, till it burst from pressure, I was feeling the pressure myself with my arms burning, but I pushed on.

I thought about what else to do, then remembered the first time I used it, there was no water around me when I made the droplets float, so where did it come from?

Then I remembered that the air was dryer after doing that, maybe I condensed the water in the air?

But that would mean, not only did I forcefully cool them, which was literally destroying energy as it spontaneously disappeared, but I also forced them into shape, unless maybe, the energy was just transferred to some place else, like the surrounding air, I practiced my theory.

It took a lot of tries, but I eventually got it, I could condense water from the air, distilled water, despite this, the water was usually very little, when compared to carrying water on my person, but it was a good start.

I went to bed when I was too tired to continue. The next morning, I still felt tired but got up and right after classes were over, I went to the gym.

Junior monitored me while I trained and it was hard but worth it.

After I had finished that, I studied with Jason then trained with Cody.

He realized I was improving really fast and said it, it made my head grow big but I concealed it.

I went out to train that night too and from that day, that was my schedule.

I'd go to class, train in the gym with Junior, study with Jason, train with Cody and train by myself.

I spent the weekends gaining all the sleep I lost during the week and as the days went by, I realized I felt more awake and active, and the blobs I saw were taking shape now, but I still couldn't tell what they were.

Mr Ford came to class, early as usual, and realized I was there, studying. He smiled to himself and before he spoke, I said,"Good morning Mr Ford, I just came early so I could be alone."

"How did you see me when I was behind you?"He asked.

"I see blobs."I said.

I then realized...

' The blobs are people! But wait, I see water as blobs too, even deeper than people. Unless, the blobs are water instead! My water vision enables me to see water in my environment, and the less there is, the lighter the colour! ' I realized.

Mr Ford was getting worried and asked,"Felix, is something wrong?"

"Oh no, there isn't, I was just thinking."I said.

He then shook my hand and accidentally pushed my mark. It projected the green screen to both of our surprise...

"You're on level 1?"He asked.

Just then Franklin walked in and saw everything then dropped his books.

I had no idea I was on level 1.

Franklin grew furious and yelled,"You've surpassed me?!"

I looked at him in fear and quickly put off the screen. He stormed towards me and gripped my wrist tightly and pressed the mark then the screen came again. I was on level 1.02 and he was boiling with anger and roared,"I was supposed to reach level 1 first! I'm supposed to be the best!"

Mr Ford tried to calm him down but he slapped his hand away and yelled,"These things are fake! I challenge you to a duel! Same time tomorrow."

I looked at Mr Ford for help but he couldn't, only the participants of a duel could control it.

A duel was a kind of exam but for light classes. It happened when someone challenged another, then they could decide the date and time, but it could also happen spontaneously if a person reached the same level as another who had been the only one on that level for at least 3 days.

In that case, both participants had a week to prepare and the rules were that you may use your light in any way you please.

Participants were actually allowed to hurt each other since there were teachers with lights that could heal.

If the person with the higher level (usually to the second decimal place) won twice, they kept their title and had a win, if the person with the lower level won twice, they don't get anything but bragging rights, a win and popularity among not only the students, but also the staff.

A person won one point by getting their opponent out of a red bordered circle or won the whole match if they got their opponent to submit.

This was my first duel and I could barely control my light without fainting, I wasn't ready.

I was going to tell Mr Ford I gave up but I heard someone talking. It was a teacher and Franklin. The teacher said,"Second?! My son is second?! I can't believe I've been training you all this while for nothing!"

"But father, I tried my best."He said with tears in his eyes.

"Well clearly your best isn't enough! You better win that duel, or you don't have to bother crawling to me again."His father said.

Then his father stormed out of the room.

I hid behind the door so he didn't see me then looked at Franklin, who was crying on the floor.

I knew exactly how he felt so I knew exactly what to do...

My mom looked at the men on the floor, then at one of their guns and slowly stretched her arm and took it, for Alex, then placed iron into the heads of all the men on the floor.

One begged for his life, so she ended it.

She went back into the control room to find where they were keeping Alex, then slowly walked through the hallways, shooting anyone who got too close.

She entered the room and saw it was separated from where Alex was lying, unconscious by a pool sized piranha aquarium, by a thick glass.

She looked at the nearest scientist and said she should get out.

She tried to push a button for security but she shot her hand, spun the gun, then hit her, hard in the head with the back.

She began shooting the glass, but it was bullet proof.

Then someone asked,"Aren't you one slippery hagfish?"

She turned around and saw a woman she didn't recognize.

She then said,"Let my son go."

"You aren't actually in the position to give orders madam, I am, so put that gun down and go back to your cell before you hurt you pretty face."

"Only when I'm dead."My mom said.

She began shooting at the woman but all the bullets stopped mid air then shot back at her.

My mom tried to dodged the bullets, but one scraped her shoulder.

She hid behind a desk then checked, she was out of bullets and the automatic gun was taking too long to reload.

The woman laughed and said,"Your efforts are futile N'dalak, you'll never beat this."

My mom charged at her and threw the gun at her face but it paused midair then the woman asked,"This was your best idea?"

"No, it wasn't."My mom said.

The woman heard a click, before the gun self destructed, taking half of her face.

She screamed as my mother tore the woman's own sleeve then wrung it around her neck, tightening it till she stopped moving, then my mom turned back to find a way to get her son out of there, but then she saw it, the necromancer.

He carried Alex, and threw him into the pool, full of flesh eating piranhas.

My mother screamed and kept ramming her fist into the glass as the pool was stained red and she cried and hung her head, she had failed.

The bodies of fish floated to the surface, right before the red water formed a water spout that carried Alex and placed him safely on the shore, the man then looked at my mom and grinned and snapped his fingers, then everything went blank...
