Chapter 2.

"Hey, I was wondering if you knew where Westlake High School was located." During the process of swiping my debit card, I questioned the young girl. At the very least, she had to be in her early to mid-twenties while she was doing those things. Her tresses were jet black, yet each one had a thin thread of emerald green running through them.

The young woman signaled that she agreed with "Sure do. " by nodding her head and pressing the register's buttons a few times. Simply continue down this route until you reach the junction, at which point you should turn left when the signal turns green. She showed her assent by nodding her head in accord. "You won't be able to miss it."

"Appreciate it." I gave her a short smile as I took the receipt she was holding out to me and then continued on. The young woman said as she looked up from operating the register, "You new around here?" "Is it really that clear?" It made me laugh out loud. Despite the fact that I haven't spent a significant amount of time there, it was clear that the town was not the largest in the surrounding region.

The young woman smiled playfully as she nodded her head in assent, indicating her agreement with the statement. "The towns are no more than hamlets. The dwellings of the vast majority of people who live in the town may be found farther out from the town core, in the surrounding forest. She only shrugged her shoulders to indicate that she was unsurprised.

The strange sound it produced caused me to raise an eyebrow, and I couldn't help myself. The question is, "Why not just live in town?" "I can't tell for sure. It would appear that the locals appreciate their own space. Then she offered a shrug.

After exiting the convenience store, I was left feeling perplexed and a little on edge. The way the girl behaved left me with little reason to be enthusiastic about school tomorrow. If this town was actually that small, there was no way that I could have eluded anyone's observation.

This time in the academic year marks the midpoint of my junior year. As soon as I finished the rest of this year, I would only have one more after that. If I could only hang on for one more year, I would finally be free of Ashina and Kane.

The jingling of my old alarm clock was what woke me from slumber. It was six o'clock in the morning, which provided me plenty of time to get ready for the day and go to school.

Ashina would already be at work, and Kane wouldn't generally get up until 11 o'clock or later in the morning. I silently crept out of my sleeping quarters and into the bathroom, trying to avoid making any noise. When Kane was awake, he was an ongoing nightmare for everyone who woke him up.

I went into the bathroom of the place where I was staying and combed through my long, dark brown hair with the brush that was there. I was the only member of Ashinaa's mother's side of the family who did not have unusually light blonde hair, which helped to emphasize the fact that I was an anomaly in the family. In addition to this, I have a condition, which is a very rare sickness, and it makes it seem as if each of my eyes is a different colour. In contrast to the hue of my left eye, which was an extraordinarily vibrant blue, the colour of my right eye seemed like a rich chocolate brown.

My grandfather was seldom the subject of my grandmother's conversation, and when she did bring up my father, it was just in passing; yet, she never failed to mention that he had the same illness that she had. Even though I was Ashina's mother, I had a sneaky hunch that this was the reason why she didn't like me. I had a strange sense that this was the reason why Ashina didn't like me. Because of an unfortunate event that occurred between her and my father, he decided to disown both of us and go on without us.

On the first of every month, Grandma would get a peculiar check, and the check would always be written out to me. This would happen every single month. The checks began coming to Ashinaa as well, not long after I moved in with her after I had already been living with her. The one and only difference was that she used them not just for Kane but also for herself.

When I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, I couldn't help but frown. I often got the feeling that I was a walking abnormality in the world. At the last school I attended, despite the fact that I had some wonderful friends there, there were always those pupils who bullied me because of the condition I had. It was not until a very late stage in my life that I was able to see and appreciate the attractive qualities inherent in that facet of my personality.

I swiftly got dressed in an ordinary and unimpressive outfit for the occasion. An uncomplicated getup that consists of a standard pair of skinny jeans, a white tank top, and a black jacket. The objective was to blend in with the background as much as possible.

I was in such a hurry to get out of the house that I grabbed a granola bar on the way out the door. I had bought it the day before. After following the young lady's instructions in the letter, I discovered to my relief that the school wasn't situated in a particularly remote area. Walking there took up the majority of my day, and by the time I got to the school, practically all of the parking spaces were taken. Students hurriedly got out of their cars and made their way to the main entrance of the structure after parking their cars. The atmosphere all around us was alive with a variety of conversations and idle chatter.

I blended in with the student swarm and made an attempt to become unnoticeable against the backdrop of the scene. My first stop was at the workplace, which I had no trouble locating at any point throughout my journey. People could find their way to the little workplace thanks to the humongous sign that was suspended from the ceiling.

"Why, hello there, sweetheart." As she walked past, a plump woman wearing a purple pinafore and large glasses that hung low on her face smiled at me. "Are you new around here?"

I gave her a brief smile, nodded in her direction, and then introduced myself as "Lovota Jacob."

I was given my grandpa's last name when I was a child, and despite Ashina's desire that I change it to my boyfriend Kane's last name, I adamantly refused to do so. My grandfather passed away when I was a child. "What a lovely moniker." The woman seemed like she was having fun as she rummaged through the pile of papers with a smile on her face. "Here you are, Ms. Lovota," the speaker stated to the listener. She gave me a smile as she turned her head in my direction.

"I am grateful." I grinned as a response and then turned to leave the office after I finished my sentence.

I was looking down at the class schedule that she had just given me at the moment when I inadvertently ran into someone else. She had given it to me at that very moment.

I might have been misled into believing that it was a stone wall if it weren't for the overwhelming smell of perfume that was coming off of him. The moment I sat down, my bottom fell with a thud on the floor, and there was an immediate silence in the hallway. My jaw hit the ground when I looked up at the person I had just collided with for the first time after the accident.

My line of sight was directed towards a pair of identical twins, each of whom seemed to be rather irate and was pretty large. I had never seen two lads who looked like they did before; it seemed as if they ought to have been featured on the cover of a magazine rather than attending a high school. I had no idea where they were. Both of them had a really dashing appearance.

Both of their eyes were almost as dark as the rest of their skin, both of their jaw lines were strong, and their hair was pitch black. Even though each of them had an incredible amount of muscle on their bodies, they nonetheless managed to keep their bodies in an athletic shape. The hair on top of one of the twins' heads was buzzed short, while the hair on the sides and back of his head was kept longer. The hair of the other twin was long enough to reach the tops of his ears, but it was disheveled in a manner that most men's hair aspires to but never quite accomplishes.

Every single one of them was stunningly lovely in their very own unique manner.

A tall blonde was clinging to the arm of one of the twins, and the woman's face was deformed into the shape of a heart as she glared in amazement. The expression was on one of the twins.

"What the hell is wrong with her eyes?" "What the hell is wrong with her eyes?" The tall blonde sneered at me while staring down at me with an air of superiority, as if I were a worthless piece of trash. My attention was immediately drawn to the two god-like twins who were towering above me, so I only gave the blonde the briefest of looks as they stood there. The manner in which they were staring at one another gave the impression that they were engaged in some sort of conversation in their brains.

I focused all of my attention on resisting the need to roll my eyes, but before I could stop myself, I had already spoken in answer to the question. "It's a matter of fact."

"You fucking freak." "fucking freak." There was a fight among the blondes. When you do this again, make sure you give careful attention to where you are going.

Following the completion of their sentence, the very beautiful twins and the tall blonde rose to their feet and exited the room. The fact that the twins had not spoken with me in any way, shape, or form was perplexing to me since I was unable to determine if this was a good or bad turn of events. The look in their eyes was as cold as ice, and when I saw that stare, I got the eerie feeling that I was looking into the eyes of those who were going to be tormenting me in the future.

It was turning out to be a nightmare all on its own because I had made the decision to be by myself.
