Chapter 51

It seemed like every one of them owed the others debts that could never be repaid and the guys paid it forward. Zach and I are lucky Jason and Bobby had such good friends. They might as well have been brothers.

Bobby was waiting for an answer. “I’m sure he’ll do this one.”

Keith rang Jake and explained what he needed. “We need to close this as soon as possible. Reggie needs a permanent place to stay.”

Jake told Keith with some emotion in his voice, “I know another group of boys like yours who take care of one another like that. It’s a special bond. I’ll do this one gratis because Bobby is helping out a friend.”

Bobby slept relatively well that night. He woke at three, but he didn’t scream. Keith thought it helped that Bobby was already in his bed. It only took a few minutes to quiet him down, and he was fast asleep.

Keith and Bobby got to Greg’s office that Tuesday at eight fifty-five. Greg showed them right inside.
