After Nellia dragged her two brothers out of the Bavel estate the two men left in fits of displeasure and anger, disappearing in an array of colors after clicking and rotating their watches.
The array of colors signaled the use of a teleporter being used, most large families had at least one of these in their residence and they could be used quickly to take the users to one of the places saved In the devices database.
Nellia didn't go back with her brothers, she needed to stay away from them for the time being. They were an unbearable company to have around and she had enough of them for the day. Her brothers did not see her favorably and it was due to their faults.
Originally the two brothers were competing for the right to be the Nexus family heir, to the point that the second eldest, Noxul, set up an engagement with the Bavel family, he ended up ending the engagement absurdly, earning him the ire of their parents along with the elders.
While the youngest, Noxul was known for his obnoxious and violent behavior. The man had offended many families, ending with Nellia having to apologize to those families herself. He was never looked upon favorably in the first place but after many repetitions of the same actions, he isn't even thought of as a contender for becoming the heir.
Even though Nellia was the eldest child she was born relatively weak, her weak constitution had given her brothers the thought of bullying and harassing her on many occasions, leaving her helpless.
Then there was a moment of hope in the new generation of the Nexus family, the moment of panic for the collective; The Spectral March. She fell into the Crypt and climbed out as almost a different person.
....
Nellia was roaming the Capital streets, wearing a disguise, of course, not wanting to reveal her identity. She had a mask covering her face and her blank stare watched the many happy families enjoying themselves.
– "Come get a fresh bird clam!"
– "Fresh bread, right out the oven!"
– "Lecibs! Fried Lecibs on a stick! Only fifteen evle coins!"
Turning to her right she was met with food stalls, one of them had a strange sea critter with a stick piercing through it. The fish was medium-sized at best, and they were quite the common fish from the Ashton River. The door seemed quite overpriced in her eyes, and she intended to go on her merry way, but a smell got to her.
The fish was secreting a heavenly smell as if it was seasoned in spices gifted by the gods. She could only turn back around and buy a fish from the stall.
She took a bite out of the fish and immediately wanted more, so she bought five more before leaving with a bag. A total of ninety evle coins, it was practically a daylight robbery, but she didn't bother with it.
Enjoying her fish, she found a bench in the city center park a few blocks down from the Brigid Tower. The center was a park that held a large field of cleanly managed bluish-green grass and shrubbery, while there were trees with dark purple bark scattered around.
The carnelian red brick paths were paved all around the park and led to the many pleasant paths for walking. In the park were two great places commonly visited by people new to the city, the Unknown Statue, and the Fountain of Lilacs.
The Unknown Statue is a statue that was built to commemorate the savior of the three lords, it was named unknown due to the man never giving out his name and nobody being able to remember his name.
The Fountain of Lilacs is a beautifully sculpted fountain surrounded by ever-beautiful Lilac flowers, never wilting.
Both were usually surrounded by either families or young lovers, and they were both occupied by the said people. Nellia didn't want to be surrounded by people, she wanted to be somewhere peaceful and quiet, so she, after walking along the path for a while had found a bench near a lake and placed the bag of Lecibs down. On the bench a bit away from her was an elderly man feeding the small local park animals.
She only had her gaze on the man for a few moments before she returned to eating her Lecibs while starting into the lake absentmindedly. She felt something furry rub her free hand. Looking down a fluff ball of a baby cat with wings was rubbing its head on her hand.
The animal was looking at her fish, there was an obvious line of drool leaking from the corner of its mouth so she knew what it came for.
– "Are you alone, where are your parents little Nyanal?" She spoke to the cat.
"mu."
The Nyanal let out a simple mu and continued looking at the half-eaten Lecib in her hands. Patting its head she pulled out a fresh Lecib from the bag and slid it off the stick before holding it out to the Nyanal.
It grabbed it into its mouth before bowing its little head and taking flight into the sky, merrily. After the Nyanal took to the sky, Nellia returned to blankly staring at the lake, taking in the clean smell lifting off from the water.
She had enjoyed this calm atmosphere, it was much better when compared to the atmosphere back at home but it was soon interrupted by the returning presence of the little Nyanal.
"mu! mu! mu!" The loud mu's had entered her ears causing her to look up as the Nyanal had smacked into her face, gripping its paws on her head as it hung down.
Nellia pulled the strangely strong animal off of her face as she continued looking at the sky, trying to understand what scared this fluff ball out of the sky; After looking up she gained an understanding of the situation.
Objects had begun appearing in the sky, coming closer and closer at high speeds. The many other Nyanals in the sky were also quickly zooming out of the sky, and the objects began to make themselves more clear in her eyes, they passed over her and headed to the location she had just come from.
After following after the ships with her eyes She found that they were heading to the Bavel estate, her heightened ears soon began to pick up the sound of multiple explosions hitting against metal.
The sounds made her want to understand the situation much better and rush back over to the estate, but the presence of more ships flying into the Capital's airspace denied her that chance. They began to fly above the streets and past the Brigid Tower and began to drop explosives.
As the explosives fell and the explosions rang out shields were erected to protect the people, but the buildings were not as lucky. The screams of the people rang out as buildings began to crumble and the streets began to crack, the barriers were not able to protect everyone so cries of pain and cries for help rang out from all around.
She looked to her side and noticed the old man shaking as he tried his best to raise himself from the bench, the animals he was feeding had already scurried off.
She saw a ship move above them as it fired multiple missiles at the park, quickly she moved to stand in front of the old man and tackled him off to the side; an explosion blasted off in her ears causing them to start ringing.
Another missile slammed into the lake near them making a large amount of water blast off into the air, drenching Nellia as she covered the elderly man.
She assisted the man up while holding her head, she was getting a headache from the loud ringing. She turned her head to the man as she watched his lips move, though she couldn't hear a word coming from his mouth; She then turned her head down seeing the little Nyanal from before staring up at her while lightly scratching at her ankle letting out a short mu – earning a nod from her.
Wrapping the elderly's arm around her shoulders she carried the man through the park, with the Nyanal hanging atop her head; Many people were running in the same direction as them. They passed by many craters and fires that were taking hold of the park, they passed the statue, and it was shaded black and had the head dented in by a missile.
Civilian ships and vehicles were being shot out of the skies, crashing into the open fields of the park as well as its lake, and others were crashing into the streets of the city along with its buildings. Fires had broken out throughout the city, and billows of smoke were rising into the air.
There were moving bodies here and there, hanging on to life, they still moved, this amount of pain wouldn't halt the Detrid people. The only things that had them severely injured were the missiles and turret shots coming from the ships that sped by a multitude of times — they could somewhat shrug off the rubble falling on them.
After moments of being downed by rubble, the people would get up and limp to the Brigid Tower, the symbol of their protection. Guards and soldiers were firing at the ships and evacuating the civilians to one of the bunkers at the base of the Tower.
Making it to the outside of one of the bunkers Nellia walked over to a nearby soldier and handed the elderly man over to him allowing him to be led to the entrance for the elderly while thanking her; She looked up at the Tower as she was confused with how the ships were able to get onto their planet without being shot down, she could only think that something was wrong.
When they entered the Tower's perimeter its doors were shut close and it wasn't firing a single projectile at the enemy ships. Soldiers were guarding every path to the tower and there were tents placed under protective shields to protect them. There were bunches of people gathered together and several lines of people trying to get into the bunkers.
Although they had trust in the Towers' and the soldiers' protection, the people were nervous; They didn't know if the ships would break through the shield and if they would be able to get into the bunkers before it happened.
Although she wasn't sure what exactly was going to happen, Nellia was sure that Nizael could handle it, after all, she was their great General Bavel. Believing that it could be handled Nellia decided to help with the evacuation efforts; So she, and the little Nyanal, still soaking wet walked back into the streets looking to help.
Soldiers tried to hold Nellia back from leaving until they saw the family symbol on the back of the coat that was hanging off her shoulders. Turning to one of the streets, her cold eyes stared at him with a silent intensity that unnerved the soldier, her silence making her further uncomfortable.
– "Can I do anything for you Lady Nexus?" Finally having enough of the silence she inquired about her stare.
– "..."
– "Er..." Seeing as she had replied to her with silence the soldier was once more thrown into an uncomfortable situation.
She could not simply walk off to another area to escape due to the fact she was stationed here to guard the entrance; Therefore she was left there squinting her eyes waiting for Nellia to say something, anything.
– "... Do you have any spare weapons?.. I didn't bring anything with me," She finally spoke up, asking in a flat tone.
– "Oh, no miss, as the Tower is currently shut the only weapons available are the weapons I and the other soldiers are carrying." Sighing in relief the soldier gave a delighted reply.
– "... I see... Thank you," With a few pauses Nellia thanked her and walked out of the camp leaving the soldier and her partner there.
The soldier that was quiet to this point let out a sigh upon Nellia's leave as he spoke out to the guard who spoke with Nellia while leaning on her with his arm on her head.
– "She's a weird one right? I always find myself getting nervous and uncomfortable whenever I pass by her, how did it feel like talking to her?" The man asked.
– "I don't know. Her silence left me uncomfortable, but otherwise, I think she might just be an awkward person? Anyway, this isn't important, get your arm off me and focus." Swatting his arm off her, she turned her gaze to the direction Nellia had left.
Nellia was completely unaware of how her small session of trying to remember her question led to her being thought of as an awkward person.
The streets were still filtered with unsecured civilians, though many had locked themselves up inside their homes others who were far from home or weren't offered assistance from a random nice stranger weren't so lucky.
When she left the camp people rushed past her as they fled the threat of roaming the streets. Not paying them any mind she and the Nyanal were moving through the streets passing destroyed shops and houses while many others rushed past them to the Tower.
Some people required her help now and then as she helped lift some people out of the rubble and collapsed houses. She heard the sound of engines as ships passed her overhead heading to the place she was currently heading to.
When she was moving about the streets she passed by people going to the Tower who had told her that people were looking for safety but didn't feel safe about going through the streets and risking their lives to get to the Tower — were going to Lidel super mall which was a block away from her.
Understanding the urgency of the situation she hopped over a wrecked car and rushed to the super mall wanting to protect as many people as possible; When she turned on the block she saw multiple figures drop from the ships in front of the mall.
She remembered a story Nizael had once told her and when she saw these figures rise and make their way to break into the mall she guessed these figures were those from the story and quickly rushed to stop their attack.
Gripping her hands in the air she rotated them in a circle and tore them away as a large tear in space appeared in front of her, which she hopped through, appearing in the super mall.
I'm honestly thinking of changing the novel name, I feel like it turns off a lot of potential readers, and I want my readers to be turned on, give me your opinions.
