Chapter 17: The Bird Cage

Rosie Duvois was beginning to wonder what her life had culminated into, as she sat inside of the room that was slowly becoming elongated, like the long bars of a prison’s interior. She couldn’t keep track of what day it was because the room she was kept in had no windows, and she suspected that this was done on purpose.

Food was brought to her by a maid or a butler, and she wasn’t even allowed to leave the room to use the restroom. Since it had one attached, all of her sanitary needs were within the confines of the space she was in.

She wished she had something to do, and expressed this to her captors, so they began to bring her books. The books were all ancient and written in French, but she had little trouble reading them.

She read about a world she had only learned about weeks prior to her kidnapping: The land of vampires, their history, and their struggles. It was unbelievable to her, the way that she had been swept under the tide of vampiric politics.
