"Run. Don't think of anyone or anything. Just run."
He watched as the corner of Iris' lips twitched into a subtle smirk. It seemed that this girl was not very good at listening and following rules. He wondered how Calixto was fixing the way his human slave behave. But then, he would just have to wonder since he could not read her mind.
She was a descendant of the Flora Sangria, she was even named accordingly. It was no wonder that he could not read her mind because they were taught at a young age a certain way to hide their thoughts from their kind. Something that was quite useful if your job was to feed a family of bloodsucking vampires that had the ability to read everything that was going on in your head if they were 'open enough'.
"Give me your number," he said, pulling his phone out of his pocket. "If you need me, you can call me anytime."
The subtle smirk that was playing at the corner of Iris' lips bloomed into a full smile, accompanied by amused giggles. She found the situation hilariously funny that a vampire, a very old one, was in her bathroom, squatting in front of her as she sat down on the toilet, asking for her phone number.
Iris looked at the phone in Talon's hands and recognized it as one of the latest models. Quite expensive. She shook her head, thinking how they could all be so rich but then, maybe if you live long enough you could save a lot of money. Unlike her who was struggling to augment her savings by getting more jobs but not getting anywhere with her savings.
"Don't just giggle," he said in a cold tone that froze Iris and stopped giggling like a child. He heaved a deep sigh and exhaled them softly, listening to what seemed to be a tickling in his chest. Her laughter was like a flowing spring bathed in sunlight. And he did not like how it made him feel.
He had no time to feel. He had to settle a century of hate for revenge. And this young girl would not mess up with his plan.
Iris gulped down her saliva to wet her parch throat. Talon is very unpredictable, more so with Calixto. She could somehow have an idea when Calixto was thrown off but with this man in front of her, she had no idea when he was being friendly or snapped her head off her neck. She did not think he was interested in drinking her blood. He was more of I'd kill you if you don't give me what I want.
That was why, Iris swallowed the lump that was painfully stuck in her throat, gently put down her legs, and straightened her back as she recited her phone number from memory as clearly as she could as not to trigger the murderous intent from Talon that seemed to come and go without any switch or warning.
"This is for emergency only," he said, calling the number that Iris gave him. He listened for her phone to ring somewhere outside the bathroom, making sure that she gave him the correct number.
"You may not believe it but you will need me. I just hope that it won't be soon or never." He stared at her and added. "Never is impossible. Things are going to be complicated and you're going to be right in the middle of it. Just a friendly reminder, be prepared and don't forget what I told you…run," he whispered in her ear as he pulled her up from the toilet seat.
He pulled her to the door and pushed her outside, closing the door in front of her shocked face.
Iris stared open-mouthed at the bathroom door that was shut right in front of her face. She stood there for a few minutes, confused about what she should do. Her laptop was inside the bathroom and it was her most prized possession. Talon might not be interested in taking it with him but she could never be sure.
She reached for the doorknob and was about to twist it open but she had no idea what she would do if she found Talon was still in the bathroom and doing whatever he was doing there. Until now, she was bewildered by his presence there.
After a few more minutes of staring at the bathroom door, she pulled back her hand from the doorknob and stepped back. She dashed to her computer desk and searched for her phone that was buried in the stack of papers and empty chocolate wrappers. She checked the last number that called her and memorized his number and when she had it memorized, she deleted it from the call history of her phone. She had no plan on saving his number on her phone.
When she was done, she was left with nothing to do. Her laptop was inside the bathroom she could not do any work and she had no idea if Talon was still there. She saw the broken exhaust in the bathroom and assumed that it was where he entered.
A thought ran in her head and she tilted her head to the stairs and wondered if Calixto knew that Talon was or is still in the mansion and if she should tell him. Weighing her choices and the consequences of her actions, she stood up from her computer chair and ran up the stairs, shouting Calixto's name.
Monette was the first one that she saw when she reached the top landing of the basement stairs.
"What are you doing?" She asked, clicking her tongue.
Monette had her arms folded under her breast, giving her a look of disdain. Before she could answer Monette, Calixto appeared.
"Talon is inside my bath—room," she said, watching Calixto fly the basement stairs in a blur.
"Who is Talon and what is he doing in your bathroom?"
Iris looked at Monette and slowly stepped back. She kept her eyes on her as she slowly closed the basement door, watching the ugly expression on her face as she could not get down the basement for whatever reason because it was Calixto's order. She enjoyed the annoyance on her face up to the last minute that she could no longer see her.
