An Incredible Beginning

Huh?

I can't breathe.

I tried my hardest to take a breath, desperately gasping to no avail. My heart was progressively pounding faster. At this rate I might pass out.

My vision was clouded, I don't have the best eyesight but certainly never to this extent. I could hardly see further than my arm-span, a thick layer of grey fog hid my surroundings. My eyes felt like they would pop out of their sockets and heard incoherent voices screaming into my ears. They were bleeding out and blood dripped down the sides of my neck. My muscles were sore and my joints were stiff.

What's going on? I don't want to die before I become rich, I haven't even finished college yet, f**k my life, everything was going well till now.

Even with all the tidbits of knowledge I know from so many subjects, I don't recall the existence of such a condition, I might be hallucinating.

This train of thought calmed me significantly. I focused on my pain and it slowly died down, yet it still keeping gnawing at me, the voices felt clearer until eventually I heard "2 hours" echoing repeatedly.

Wasn't this a symptom of schizophrenia? Am I schizophrenic?

As the voice grew clearer, I slowly gained control of my body and the pain gradually elapsed.

I felt a gush of air enter my lungs, I had to close my eyes and relax for a little to alleviate my lightheadedness. I let out a deep sigh of relief.

Thank goodness my death was postponed.

I was in a bland grey room, the ceilings and the walls the colour of concrete, the floor made of brown wood that stood out in the drab atmosphere, it was probably newly replaced. I was sitting upon a bed, nothing too special about it. Some much needed sunlight pierces through the windows and reflects off the shiny floorboards.

Why am I here? I've yet to find out. I might've been knocked unconscious by someone and got kidnapped, nevermind that's unlikely since I can freely walk around without any restraints. I hear someone coming.

The door creaks open, revealing a tired face putting on a smile. His dark green eyes almost glowed in the light. He had a brown frock-coat on and a pair of black leather boots.

Unusual clothing.

"Ah, don't have to wake you up today. Unusual for you to do so yourself,"

What is he talking about? Guess I'll play along since I haven't yet acquainted myself with my circumstances.

"Yeah it is," I smiled awkwardly.

"Anyways, There's a letter for you, it's on the table, I'm off then" he turned around and gave a little wave before leaving the house.

I slowly walked out of the room and opened up the letter. It smelled old for whatever reason.

"Hello there, at this point you're probably busy wondering what happened to you and why you're here."

The sentence erased itself...

How?! What is going on?

Before my thoughts could go on another sentence started to appear in its place spontaneously. The erased text didn't leave a trace.

Another sentence appeared in its place spontaneously.

"Welcome to my world, Rosèlan. Before you try looking through your memories, no this isn't a location from your home world."

Then where am I?

"I wasn't the person who sent you here, I simply happen to work for 'him', you're currently in the body of someone else."

In other words, I've transmigrated?!

I ran around the house, looking for a mirror, eventually I found a bathroom next to the room I woke up in—presumably mine— I looked myself up and down. I had white skin, almost pale, perhaps indicative of an iron deficiency, emerald-green eyes stood out when contrasted with my medium-length jet black hair. I was about 185cm tall, though I was roughly in my early-20s I was thinly built.

I have to say, I'm looking pretty good, could use some exercise though.

Come to think of it, that man who left a couple minutes ago, and I have similar features, we might be related. Judging from his age, he might've been my brother.

"You're proficient in Rosèlangue, the language spoken here, so don't worry about too much, just keep living on. Oh, also have fun with the 'magic' as your people call it"

Not unexpected from another world, certainly will be fun though.

Now, how do I use magic? Wait, how do I even find out about it?

I racked my brains while making myself a bowl of chocolate cereal, I found the box in the kitchen right next to some corn flakes, then I grabbed some milk from the refrigerator. What time period am I in? I checked the refrigerator, there was no electricity running into it, this implies that it's either magic or runs on some other mechanism.

I took the first bite of food I've had in this life, it's just standard chocolate cereal, in other words, incredibly delectable. I ate 4 more bowls as the milk got chocolatier with each additional serving, absolutely fantastic food.

I decided to take a walk outside to figure out the era I'm in better. I saw a couple buildings nearby, they look a lot like European constructs from the 1800s, due to the existence of cereal boxes and refrigerators, this is quite possibly the industrial era.

The streets were extraordinarily clean and empty, it was quite early, though I'd occasionally catch sight of a newspaper boy or a milkman. All the wooden signboards had their location engraved on it, the metal ones had it painted on. This city is called Shinoisette, I roughly translates to "White hazelnut".

I wonder why it's named as such. The fact that I speak Rosèlangue is pretty amazing, perks of transmigration I suppose.

I continued sauntering, suddenly I heard the same reverberating voices.

I collapsed to the ground moments after hearing a few words.
