The figure slowly walks out of the shadow. "Mr. Kemper" he says with out stretched hands.
"General Lee" Kemper says shaking the firm hand stretched towards him.
"How was the mission?" Lee says leading him through the dark path he emerged.
"Same as usual"
"And what about her? Still planning on taking her out of the program?"
"Melanie?"
"Yes"
"Yeah, I want her to focus on her Schooling for now. And also, it happened again"
"Wait, she let her guard down again?"
"Yes and this time she was almost slaughtered. I can't bear this much close calls anymore, so I would want her completely out of the program this time. I can't put her life in any more danger. However, she is free to rejoin when she graduates from high school"
"She's not going to be happy with that is she?"
"No, but I would try my best to make her understand"
"Okay, this is just about the right time. The board is still discussing the issue and it has not been easy. Perhaps you could pass by and inform them about your decision"
"Great idea"
They walk down a flight of stairs and turn right at a corner going through a dark hallway. 'Gracious the lights have still not been fixed' the general thought to himself and leads the way to a transparent glass door with 'Conference Room' inscribed on it. Pushing the door open, they are drowned by the noise coming from the room as the chairman is calming everyone down. A look of displeasure replaces the naturally cold look on the generals face as he stares at the noise making bunch in the room and everyone becomes quiet at the sight of him. The general walks up to the chairman and whispers into his ears and with a nod, the chairman seems to have agreed to whatever he said.
The general turns to address the board members with his look of displeasure slowly fading off as he says "I invited Mr. Kemper here today to inform us about his decision concerning his daughters stay in the program. Please listen to what he has to say". Saying so, the general stands back as Mr. Kemper stands at one end of the table to address the board. "Good evening everyone, I'm not going to take too much of your time. I'm just here to inform you all that I am withdrawing my daughter from the program entirely."
Everyone begins to murmur. They quiet down as he begins to speak again. "A lot has been going on lately and thus my decision to withdraw her from the program. I assure you she would return as soon as she completes her high school education. I know some might not like the idea of taking her out but it's all for the best and with that said, I hereby withdraw my daughter Melanie Kemper from this program. Thank you all for your time". He shakes the chairman's hand and walks out with the general. Some agreed with him whiles others sat there stunned and speechless.
Walking back to the elevator, they go up to the general's office which is on the uppermost floor of the headquarters.
SKATEPARK
6:35 PM
In the large skatepark Gideon is sitting on the grass watching Gavin who is in the bowl. The skatepark is surrounded by short grasses and enclosed by a thin wall of white gravels. Just like any other skatepark, there are half pipes, quarter pipes, bowls, snake runs except their designs are a bit extreme. "Hey Gideon check this out; 360 spin, backflip! Double backflip…."
"Show off!!" Gideon teased
"Double spin, front…. ahhh" he losses balance and falls. He lays down there looking up. "Aww" he groans in pain as he tries to move. Gideon rushes to him and asks "Hey you okay?"
"Yeah I'm good" he replies. Gideon helps him to his feet and they both go to lay down on the grass. He is panting as though he was being chased by a wild goose. "Gav, you know what, I think you should try that again another time. I think it was awesome" Gideon continues to tease
"Ha...ha...ha very funny" he says trying to shake of his pain.
"Yeah I warned you several times but you never pay attention. I'm way better than you at this stuff yet here I am, not showing off"
"I'm taking that as a challenge" he says with a mischievous grin, obviously up to no good.
"If that's how you see it then, okay"
"Okay let's see about that. How about a race, the one who does the most stunts wins"
"Hmm, that's fair enough, but where exactly are we going to do this?"
"Hehehehe... I was thinking on the highway, on our way home" he say, the mischievous look on his face becoming clearer.
"You have no idea what you talking about"
"Come on, are you backing out already?"
"Gavin we're talking eternal groundation. No way I'm doing that"
"Relax man it's just for today"
"No way"
"Okay I would give…"
"No, don't even bring that up, not falling for it. I mean you can choose another route but definitely not the highway"
"Okay I would help you with Jessie"
"What!!" he says glaring at him.
"Yeah"
"Don't even think about it" he says standing.
"You know she's also into you right?" he says joining him, a cunning smile on his face.
"Gavin, fabricating stories about your sister being into me changes nothing. What you are suggesting is suicide. Read my lips, S-U-I-C-I-D-E"
"If you don't do it, I'm telling her you are into her and I'm going to tell her everything you've been saying about her"
"Huh!?? No, no, no, no, no, no" he says with a hint of fear appearing on his face
"Also there is this other thing" Gavin says removing a red packet from his pocket.
"Donna's wheat!!!!!" Gideon says reaching for the packet but Gavin withdraws his hands.
"Not until after the race, so do you agree to the race?"
"Haven't taken that for a while now. Barely even see those around here. Where did you get them?" he says ignoring the question
"Got them on my way from Gardot. Even brought dozens of them"
"Seriously?"
"Yeah, so race me and you get to keep 3 dozens"
"Using my favorite snack against me, that's not fair"
"The world's not fair pal" he says patting his on the shoulder as he continues "So you in or not?".
Gideon sighs heavily. "I guess I have no other choice or do I?"
"No you don't"
"Alright, fine but only this once and that's all."
"Yes!!" Gavin exclaims
"And you better start praying we don't get caught. I don't wanna be grounded"
"Relax man we are not gonna get caught"
"I hope so. Let's see who makes it to the finish line" He said speeding off as Gavin follows.
WELLS MANOR
7:00 PM
"Zarx, send those boxes to the garage" Chloe says pointing towards some boxes by the trailer.
"Yes mom" Zarx responds 'Those look really heavy' he thinks to himself as he moves towards the boxes which are by the trailer on side walk and picks one of the four boxes. "Oh!!!! Yeah, they really are heavy." he says out loud while trying to catch his breath under the weight of the box as he walks away. The others finish and help him with the rest. "Thank you all so much" Chloe says to the men who accompanied them.
"It's been a pleasure working with you, mam" says one of the 8 men who came in the trailers and once done, they enter the vehicles and drive off, their trailer soon disappearing out of sight. The Wells walk back into the manor closing the door behind them. Zarx flings himself into a sofa like a leaf in fall as Mr. Martin walks in with two glasses of water on a tray. He hands a glass of water to Chloe. "Oh, thank you" she says with a smile. "Thanks" Zarx says picking a glass.
"We've got a lot of work to do tomorrow so no video games tonight" Chloe says Sternly to Zarx who is about to pick a console.
"But mom…"
"No buts Zarx. Go take your bath so we can go have dinner."
"How are you going to ...."
"Now's not the time Zarx. Go take your bath". He leaves reluctantly.
GAVIN'S HOUSE
"Told you I was gonna crush you" Gavin says teasingly.
"Yeah whatever, can I have that now" Gideon says stretching his hands.
"Sure, here" he says tossing him a blue bag.
"Gee thanks. What's the time by the way?"
"7:15"
" 7:15??? I gotta go. Got an assignment to complete and also mom would be back soon so see you later" He barely ends his statement when Gavin's mom walks in. "Hey boys, how has your day been?" she asks inquisitively, but the look on her face was telling a whole different story.
"Uh Oh. I think we in trouble, big trouble."
