Black Blood Mage

Stealing mushrooms and drinking urine is the only way many in the underground and Demon-controlled city of Adonia know how to live. In such a world, how could anyone–much less a young boy no older than five-years-old–survive?

War Part 2

'This can't be right. Behind us is…'

Behind us was the tunnel that had been dug for many years leading behind the Demon guards' quarters. This was the cornerstone of Donovan's plan, and the reason why today had to be the day the war started. Because the tunnel had just been completed.

Donovan, the green one, and I were the only ones not facing in that direction. The look on the soldiers' faces, however, said all that we needed to know.

The three of us turned around, seeing Demons flooding out of a newly created hole in the wall, covered from head to toe in armor.

As the Demons filled the already small space in St. Donovan, they stopped a little ways away from our front line–just enough to be threatening, but not incite immediate violence.

The flow of Demons eventually stopped and the perfectly formed lineup spread open at the middle, allowing the largest being I've ever seen walk through to the front, not looking at anything but Donovan.

"Hahaha. Donovan, still trying to rebel against me? Do you need a reminder of what happened last time?"

The Demon towered over Donovan at nearly 4 meters tall despite its hunched back, its thin and long limbs making it seem even taller. Its entire body was covered in crimson scales all the way up to its face, where it was all black scales. Its horns were black with red tips, curving from its temples out in front of its forehead.

The Demon didn't seem to be wearing any armor except for a loincloth, and it was wielding two large curved swords.

The noise that came out of the Demon's face was akin to rubbing a stone against a piece of metal, and I can only assume that it was laughter. Two rows of spiky white teeth appeared from its otherwise flat face, some kind of smoke being emitted from its mouth as it spoke.

"Things won't end the same this time."

As soon as Donovan finished speaking, both him and the lanky Demon emitted their King's Aura, igniting the flames of battle on both sides.

Immediately, I knew Donovan could handle the lanky Demon, so I rushed towards the enemy line, lowering my body to make use of my small size compared to the Demons.

The average Demon was at least 2.25 meters tall, so my 1.25 meter tall body was sure to throw them off.

I used the momentum that I had to sweep the first three Demons I came into contact with off of their feet, continuing deeper into the army, swinging my staff at any legs that came into range.

By the time my weapon met an enemy's, I had already taken down 15 Demons, allowing the Beastmen to finish them off easily.

The Demon that caught my staff with their halberd was fairly short at 2 meters tall, with slightly green scales covering their body. There was fear in their eyes as they smiled to try to threaten me.

Unfortunately for them, it didn't work.

I swung my staff down hard, taking the Demon's weapon out of their hands, leaving them vulnerable. With a quick jab to the stomach and a snap on the back of their head, they were down for good–my first kill.

'That felt good…'

A smile involuntarily crept onto my face as I felt pure ecstasy rush through my body.
