Shadow and Light in One Being (2)

In the school clinic, a boy could be seen lying on a bed in white patient clothes. He had his eyes closed, like he was sleeping. A group of people stood by him with the doctor as he used some small nano machines to check his vitals.

"He's fine. He should be waking up soon." he said. In no less than a second, the sleeping boy showed signs of waking up. 

Kaiden slowly opened his eyes amidst the expectant gazes of the group.

"Where am I? Ugh! My head..." Kaiden muttered.

"Big brother..."

"Congratulations! You've successfully awakened." Captain Liam said in praise.

"Awakened?"

"Big brother? You look... different." Echo said in confusion.

"Huh? Different?"

"It's best if you see for yourself." The doctor said as he tweaked the nano machines to form a clear mirror. Kaiden stared wide eyed at his new appearance, not believing it was him. He was doubting himself, how much more Echo, his brother. His appearance hadn't overly changed as in facial features, but it was still a change he didn't expect although he knew that awakening came with some traits, he still wasn't expecting something on appearance.

His blue eyes had taken on a brighter color, glowing in a beautiful blue. His award-winning winter grey hair had changed into a snow white. But that wasn't all. Instead of the whole hair color changing, it had come with different grades and tones. The topmost up to the middle was white, the middle was a darker shade of his previous hair color with the ends ending in a darker black color. This coupled with his eyes made him more handsome and charming, even models will pale in comparison but that wasn't the most pressuring here and Captain Liam did the honors of breaking it to him.

"Cadet Kaiden. You are a double awakener. You are not the first, but you are the first considering the kind of elements you awakened. You awakened Shadow and Light and as a Naturae. Congratulations once again."

"This..."

"You freak. You did it again. Haha!" Greg burst out laughing while Echo jumped on Kaiden to give him a big hug with tears in his eyes. He was really scared when he saw that but now that his brother was alright, he couldn't talk but just express his emotions.

"We will be heading back to the arena to conclude the duels. They should be on the last 100 students or so. We will calculate your affinity rating tomorrow with the others. Get up and dress and let's go."

"Yes Captain!"

Belthrox was having his duel currently with a noble, the noble he had had a grudge with when he proposed the class monitor requirements. His name was Lucas Flint, from one of the noble houses. They were just second to the 5 great families, a high-ranking family unlike what Kaiden said.

"Your savior isn't here to save you again, filthy commoner. He's probably in the clinic, screaming in pain." Lucas mocked as he threw a kick at Belthrox's head.

"You are very stupid if you couldn't realize what happened." Belthrox retorted while blocking the attack with a kick of his own. This had been going on for about 5 minutes with no one having a point. Lucas wanted Belthrox to despair, but Belthrox was too strong for such things, and he couldn't defeat him like how Echo and Greg did to their opponents. Belthrox was strong, if not stronger. As they dragged on their battle, Captain Liam entered the arena. Behind him was Greg and Echo and the man of the moment in the institute, Kaiden.

"What?!"

"What did you say again? Screams? You are really stupid. Time to end this." Belthrox said with a smirk as his attacks grew in speed and strength, far surpassing Lucas' prowess. This caused expressions of surprise among the spectators. So he was that strong? This thought passed through their heads as they witnessed the cocky Lucas getting overwhelmed with the attacks. In the last minute, Lucas fell face down on the arena with blood flowing from his nose and mouth and a couple of bruises on his skin. Belthrox then left the stage amidst loud applauses from the commoners and some of the nobles, mostly those from the 5 great families. Then one who was cheering the most was Rica who had returned an hour earlier. She was shouting on top of her voice like there was no tomorrow.

"Good fight." Kaiden said as he hugged Belthrox, shocking him and everyone who saw it. A noble hugging a commoner, something rare considering that Kaiden was even the heir to one of the 5 great families. That hug was a testament to all of them that Belthrox was under Kaiden's power and authority and that shook everyone to the core. This was a blatant show of authority and recruitment and Belthrox knew it, so did all of them. If it was any other noble, it would have been a bit shocking but for the heir of a noble family and one of the 5 great families at that, it was more than shocking. It was something that could shake the whole human world if news ever got out. 

"Thank you. Young master."

"Can't you just call me by my name?"

"No."

"Just do what you want."

"Hehe. By the way you look charming. I'm sure your fun girls have already surpassed the hundred marks." Belthrox stated with a mischievous smile.

"Yayy! That's my prince charming over there!" Rica shouted as she threw herself at Kaiden, leaving him no choice but to catch her.

"I guess." was all Kaiden could say after noticing the killing gazes directed at Rica, not like she cared though.

Next up was Bradley's battle. He visibly shook when his name was called. He wasn't a fun of fighting in the first place, but he didn't have a choice either.

"You can do it brother Bradley."

"Go for it. There's no shame in losing but there's shame in not trying."

"At least get a point in!"

"Fatty rocks! Show them what you are made of."

"Good luck."

And that ended as bad luck as his opponent was someone only the freaks of nature like Kaiden, Greg, Dilian etc could take on. She was one of the so called strongest of the 1st years. She was none other than April Kaneko and she made sure to torture Bradley to her satisfaction as payback to Kaiden. 

Kaiden just smiled wryly at this. He had an idea of why April was being that savage. He had awakened as a Naturae and that pissed her off when she wasn't included in the choosing of Naturae awakeners by whoever did that.

After that battle, a couple of battles went on the duel ended with everyone talking of Kaiden's awakening and his blatant recruitment of Belthrox into his family.

Captain Liam came to give a closing remarks and motivation to the cadets in preparation for the ceremony the next day but as he was getting of the stage, a strange phenomenon happened. The sky suddenly blackened. There were no clouds, the sky just turned black. Before anyone could react, screams of pain and agony burst out from the cadets' stand. Huge bursts of light shot through the dark sky, lighting it up with strange symbols related to the elements they were awakening.

"The fuck is going on...."
