Chapter Eight

Michael's POV

Linda fainted and this time it was me who picked her up. Never in my life, would I have thought that a woman would decide who'll become the next Alpha. Especially not my mate.

"Let's go."

I told James, but he just stood there like a mannequin. Both of us were buck naked and the cold wind was gushing my pores open but it didn't bother me. What bothered me was my brother. He stood there like he was lost in his own world. I wanted to shake him to reality but I controlled myself. Like I always do. It was also because I had Linda in my arms. I took a deep breath and spoke.

"I said, let's go James."

I said. This time my voice did not betray any hint of frustration that I was feeling. He looked at me with wild eyes. Like he was crazy. And I wasn't exasperation this time. He looked wild. He really looked like a crazy maniac.

"Did you hear that as well?"

He asked me. In an almost, crazed tone. I looked at him and tried to figure where we were going in this discussion and what was going through his brain. I'm usually good at doing that. However, I'm not sure about right now. As carefully as I could, I replied, "Yes. Yes. I did." He stared at me for a second then a psychotic smile bloomed on his face.

"She will decide who will become the next Alpha. She will." He said. I unintentionally pulled my eyebrows together at his words and looked at him.

Suddenly, he started laughing. His laugh was heavy, throaty and filled with sinister intentions. He laughed so hard that I thought he would crack his jaw. He continued laughing by grabbing his head and throwing it back. Like a demon had possessed him. He was laughing like someone had told him the joke of his life, and he could not get enough of it. His laugh was almost happy. Almost.

However, his laugh was anything but happy. His laughter boomed across the empty and quiet jungle and it echoed into nothingness. Bright moonlight reflected his features more brightly and I remembered that he was not as idiot as he looked.

"What's so funny?" I asked him.

"What's so funny?" He mimicked me. As if I was asking the stupidest question in the world.

"What's so funny?" He spoke in my tone, again. Eventually, his laughter died down. He looked at me evilly and I got the vibes that I won't like what he would say next.

"Funny thing is that we always fought for the position of an alpha. That we always tried to prove ourselves in front of our dad, so he will think that one of us is capable enough to take on that position. But now it has come down to this fact that our future will be decided by this woman."

He said and gestured towards Linda. I glanced at Linda for a second but then I tightened my grip on her as if I was protecting her. He shook his head.

"You know, I always thought that you had the advantage of being a good adviser in front of dad. I always thought that he was more biased in making you the next alpha. And I always had this fear that you will become the next alpha, that dad might prefer you over me. However, look how the tables had turned. We don't need to be a good adviser to become the next alpha. And that would be decided by her.

Her." He said and shook his head. Like it was stupid.

"She will decide who'll become the next alpha. And even dad can't interrupt that because it is the prophecy given by the none other but Moon goddess herself. And no one can deny that. For the first time in life, the odds are in my favor. I'll charm her. I've always been the ladies man."

He smirked and walked leisurely towards me. He reached out and traced a finger on Linda's cheek seductively. I pulled her back a little and snarled at him.

"Stay away from her." I said. And he grinned.

"Now how can I do that? After all, now she's the key for the position of alpha."

He said and I reluctantly agreed with him internally. I looked at Linda in my arms. Her eyes were closed and she looked peaceful. I could not help but feel a sudden rush of possessiveness over her. James was right. She will be the key to something I always wanted to get. Something I always wanted with an inch of my life. She will help me achieve it.

She.

My mate.

No one would steal her from me. And when I would become the next alpha she would be my queen, my Luna.

I raised my head towards James and smirked as evilly as possible.

"We will see that. Who will she decide to pick for alpha." I said. And then we both started our journey to our home back.

We reached our house and went into the guest bedroom again. Dad and Adan were already there. Probably waiting for us.

I entered the room. My dad's eyes darted towards Linda in my arms. I walked over and placed her on the bed, yet again the same place and backed up after placing her. James turned to Adan.

"Make sure the window is locked from outside and inside. Also make sure that someone is guarding her every time. Place a man outside the window and on the gate. If she escapes this time, I will crush your skull with my bare hands." I told him. He gave me a stiff nod. And me, James and Dad walked out of the room. Leaving Adan to deal with it. We followed dad to his office room. Dad took a seat and James and I kept on standing.

"We heard Moon Goddess - James started but dad cut him off.

"I know. I heard it too." Dad said and gestured for us to sit down on the chairs. James and I stared at each other. It was very unusual for dad to ask us to sit. He preferred for us to stay standing in his office. According to him, it made us realize that he was the one in power. And unless we do achieve that position, he will treat us as a commoner. We will be treated like any other fellow wolf in the pack. No privileges.

We took a seat in front of him on the chairs.

"You need to tell her everything. We can't keep her in the dark. If she is going to be a part of our pack then she needs to know what's going on. And I want you both to do it yourself. If anyone else tells her that then you might lose her trust. If she is going to choose between one of you then you need to give her a fair reason for it to be you." He said and I nodded.

"We tell her." I exclaimed.
