"Fifteen years! Tomorrow is your engagement ceremony with the lady, my lord!" He said and that was when he noticed Susan sleeping on the bed but he pretended not to see.
A professional butler knew exactly when to keep his mouth shut!
Although Derek was surprised that so much time passed while he slept, he knew there was nothing that could be done concerning the fifteen years that passed.
"I see!" He looked at Susan. "Take her to her room and..." He looked at the mirror once more and nodded. "...I'm hungry!" His eyes glowed.
Susan woke up feeling exhausted. Her entire body ached but she didn't know why. It was probably as a result of sleeping all day and night.
"Was it because I slept too much?" She asked while the maids massaged her shoulders and then, her scalp.
She felt too tired that she had to ask the maids to help her prepare. They usually offered to but she declined each time.
This time, there was no way she would decline. She stared as they worked diligently. They were real professionals.
"I'm sorry for bothering you guys after I said I could handle myself." She apologized but they brushed it off.
"Not at all, my lady. It's our duty to ensure you have a stress free morning everyday!" Lindy said. "You should just relax and get used to it."
'Yeah, relax. I want to but, I feel tensed' Susan thought and sighed.
"What's bothering you, my lady?" Kate asked but Susan simply shook her head.
"It's nothing!" She said. "But, tomorrow's my engagement ceremony but I'm yet to see the face of my soon to be fiance!" She sighed once more.
"Oh, I heard he returned last night!" Lindy said
"Really?"
"You're likely to meet him at breakfast or lunch!" Kate added and Susan thought for a while.
"Hmm, what is he like? I mean, how is he? Is he the type that nitpicks on little things? Does he have a temper? Should I be cautious of my actions? I don't want to do anything that would upset him!" She seemed really curious and they smiled.
"You don't need to worry about anything, my lady!" Kate chuckled.
"Well for one, he is very handsome with thick black hair and alluring brown eyes." Lindy described. It didn't sound like he was some old perverted man at all.
"He's usually cold and gets annoyed at annoying things but, he's also sweet with a gentlemanly attitude. You will surely come to like him."
"Then, is there a specific way I should act in front of him?"
"Just be yourself!" They both chorused.
The news really knew how to create a false identity.
Aside from the fact that he was young, handsome and of course wealthy, the news specifically pointed out that he was a cold hearted gentleman who had no regards for people's lives.
Of course when they say that, they mean he never values an employee. If there was a mistake at work, no matter who he or she was, he would immediately fire them.
Be it the poorest person in the city or the richest, your life had no value to him.
'Will it be okay to really act normally? I might offend him' she thought
After the bath, she got dressed and went down for breakfast. When she got to the dinning hall, she met Dylan and Dante fighting. They pulled at each others hair.
Although she didn't come from a distinguished family like theirs, she still knew how to compose herself in front of others but they ...why were they so wild? Was it because they were boys?
Seeing Susan, they both stopped and sat down like nothing had happened.
"Hey, sister-in-law!" Dylan waved at her and she rolled her eyes.
"Don't call her that! It makes her look old!" Dante hit Dylan on the he head and they began fighting again.
Susan watched them feeling a bit amused. Boys really didn't need to keep any decency in the current age. But who was that fighting with Dylan?
"Um, who are you?" Susan asked and Dante simply threw his face away. She frowned. "That's rude!" She muttered.
"Don't mind him sister-in-law, he's just putting up attitude!" Dylan said.
"Hm, you two turn out to be blood afterall!" She mumbled but they heard it anyway.
"That's cruel!" Dylan feigned tears. Dante glared at him.
"What did you do?"
"That's none of your business!" Dylan evaded Dante's eyes and they started fighting again.
While they fought, Susan wondered if they didn't feel uncomfortable fighting in front of a girl they barely knew. No, Dylan crawled into her bed at night, what could they not do?
She looked at Derek's chair. There was no plate in his spot so that meant he wouldn't have breakfast.
A part of her was was eager to meet him and another part wanted him to never appear.
After breakfast, Susan had to pick her engagement dress. All the dresses were glamorous and beautiful.
She tried them all and felt that each one was too extravagant. She wondered, if her engagement dress was this beautiful then, how would her wedding dress look like?
"I'll just go with something simple," she picked the white dress which was decorated with white roses.
"Good choice, my lady. This dress is called 'pure rose'. It'll look great on you." The seamstress praised and ordered her girls to take the other dresses away. She took Susan's measurement in order to amend the dress to fit her perfectly. "The dress will be ready by this evening, so you don't need to worry." She clapped her hands "Now for the jewelry that'll go with it."
'When will this end?' Susan thought.
As if picking dresses wasn't enough, now she had to pick out earrings and a necklace. Couldn't she just browse for the most trending stuff? Why did they have to do it the old fashioned way?
'This family needs to see the light of the 21st century' she thought and sighed until her eyes landed on a necklace. The stones looked like they were actual diamonds. "It's beautiful!"
