CHAPTER 1: MY MISSION

SOMEWHERE IN CALIFORNIA

"I know you can do it", The tall man in a suit said to a clueless nine year old me.

"You can become a SPY".

8 YEARS LATER

The breeze brushed past my skin as I glanced out the window of the car. I thought of everything that could go wrong if I blew this. I sighed as the car stopped, signaling I was at my destination. I got down from the car and it sped away almost immediately. I stared at the "mansion" in my front, with the name, "Netherland Academy". As I saw this, I suddenly remembered why I was here in the first place.

****FLASHBACK

"YOU WANT ME TO WHAT!!!", I said stunned almost shouting. My feet wobbled and I felt like crashing to the ground. Agent Sky was one of the few people that believed I could be useful as a spy, even when my parents doubted me. Even so, what he asking me to do was.... JUST TOO MUCH for someone like me. My distressed face was very visible to Agent Sky. He looked away from the documents in his grasp like he expected my reaction.

"A paranom's energy has been detected in distant highschool"

"Your job is to investigate and figure out the identity of the paranom, before the eclipse", He said all that with a straight face.

"You didn't have to repeat it", I felt a bit of nausea after speaking up. I shot him a dirty and annoyed look.

"Okay, I will send you the necessary details and information about the mission and more".

"So off you go", he said pointing to the door of his huge office.

He had to be joking right?. Surprisingly he read my facial expressions almost immediately and spoke up,

"I am not joking... You should go now"

"Why me of all people?", I said

Agent sky sighed in frustration.

" The mission board decided to give Nicole this mission"

"But, I was able to convince them to choose you instead", he continued.

I stared at Agent Sky with utter disbelief. Before venting out, I asked just to be certain.

" What difficulty rank is it?"

"Omega", he said.

"And what is the most difficult mission rank?"

"O for Omega", he said casually.

"So let me get this straight, they would have sent Nicole, a more experienced spy on this dangerous mission..... But INSTEAD you convinced the board to send ME???", I said almost shouting.

I knew I wanted to be a spy so badly and also prove everyone wrong. However, a feeling inside me, constantly doubted myself every single time. I think part of my heart agreed with everyone else. I was scared and helpless. After listening to my rants and whining, he dropped the documents he was scanning through. Agent sky walked up to me, closing most of the distance between us. He placed his hand on my shoulder gently and said softly,

"I know you can do it"

"I believe in you"

This brought back past memories. I really felt like I was nine again.

"But I can't do it, they were all right... It's because of this stupid...

Before I could finish, he cut me off.

" You want to move forward, stop blaming other things, but yourself. You choose to be yourself, you choose to be afraid or stronger.

"Would you let all your time and effort here,go down the drain for what?... for others or for that?

I was too stunned, I didn't know how to respond at all.

" You have trained harder than anyone in this organization, whether you see it or not.

"This is your time to prove everyone wrong and show them what you can actually do", he said as I thought deeply. I thought of all the neglect, bullying and shaming, I had been through. I sighed, I couldn't change my past, but maybe I can change my future. I looked at Agent Sky and smiled. He wasn't one of the chatterboxes. He was a calm, cool, guy, who practically kept to himself about 80 percent of the time. I think I must be the reason for the missing 20 percent.I lost this discussion, I spoke up in defeat.

"Just so you know, if I die, I will end you"

He chuckled

"You won't, I have a feeling you would be very good at this".

I rolled my eyes

"So are you in or not", He looked at me intently and smirked.

END OF FLASHBACK

That is how I ended up here, agreeing to this mission. This mission that could mean the enslavement of humanity.

Yep, we're hanging on a thin transparent thread.
