25- First Time

A little while later Noah can be seen in the library. The same one from the elder lich's collection. Anyway Noah was looking at a book, while using his mana with a pen-like instrument to carve runes at a seven inches long rectangular piece of metal.

Noah spent an hour carving a simple symbol. The symbol was "מַ". This was the first in a string of symbols that would be required for the rectangular instrument.

After an hour of drawing the symbol, Noah was able to move on to the next letter. "לְ" the next letter required more focus. Noah took about another hour to draw that one.

An hour later and Noah was done with the third letter, it was by far the hardest letter, "שְׁ". The fourth letter was relatively easier that the rest, "א"

It took Noah a total of four hours to finish the simple four symbol.

[That took so long! So what did you do?] - Draco was quite the whole time as to not distract Noah.

[Look!] - Noah said in a happy tone. Noah put his hand on one edge of the rectangle. He then put in some of his mana and a small white dot appeared on the rectangle. Noah then put a bit more mana in and the small white dot moved on the surface of the rectangle until it reached the other end of the small rectangle. Once the white dot hit the other side of the small rectangle, it bounced back towards Noah's finger.

[...] - Draco was very confused

[What do you think?] - Noah said in a proud tone, he was waiting for Draco to shower him with praise.

[So...What did it do exactly?] - Draco

[Didn't you see it make a small white dot on the surface?] - Noah

[I did. I'm asking what did it do?] - Draco

[Didn't you see it launch from under my finger?] - Noah

[I did. But I want to know what did it do exactly?] - Draco

[Ok then, since it seems like you wasn't paying attention. I'll do it again so watch closely] - Noah said as he put his finger on the seven inches lone metal bar. As he fed his mana into one side of the rectangle, a small white ball formed and when Noah gave it a small burst of mana, the white ball moved towards the other side of the small rectangle and bounced off the wall of the rectangle.

[Did you see it this time?] - Noah

[What did it do?] - Draco

[My god Draco. Pay attention please!] - Noah said as he reached for the trianlge again.

[NO!] - Draco's shout stopped Noah

[I'm not mental challenged. I saw what you did! What I want to know is what did we gain from doing that] - Draco

[Did you not see the white dot bounce off the wall of the rectangle] - Noah

[So what was the purpose?!] - Draco

[A white dot bounced off the wall!!] - Noah

[I asked what we gain from it!] - Draco

[A white dot that bounced off the end!] - Noah was frustrated

[*Inhale*...*Exhale* Is that what you spent your last four hours doing] - Draco

[What's with that tone of yours?] - Noah

[Don't you think that we could've used this time to do something more productive?] - Draco

[Listen Draco. I know that this might seem insignificant to you bu-

[It is insignificant] - Draco

[Ok, it is insignificant now, but the journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step] - Noah

[Fine, now what?] - Draco

[We do it again, but this time faster] - Noah said and then jumped right into it as he pulled out another rectangle piece from his bag. Noah ignored Draco's complaints and started on his second practice run

Noah had spent the whole day and almost all the way through the night working on his practice. He used a variety of symbols. This changed the way the white dot moved. Some combination of symbols made it zig zag, some at a wide angel, and others that zig zagged at a tight angle. After writing about 10 different symbols, and a variety of different combination, he had gotten tired enough, and went to sleep on the desk in the library.

Noah was a sleep, when he was shaken. Noah opened his eyes and groaned as he looked up. He saw a woman with silver hair, purplish-silver eyes.

'Mom?' - Noah thought as he squinted his eyes to get a better look.

"What are you doing here? I looked all over for you!" - Noelle

"Sorry. I was researching and doing some experiments" - Noah said as he sat up and rubbed his eyes.

"What experiments were you doing?" - Noelle

"Oh! You wanna see?!" - Noah jumped up as he reached for one of the rectangles laying around

[DON'T] - Draco called out suddenly.

[What do you want hater] - Noah

[This poor girl has a great picture of you in her head. If you go an show her that useless rectangle of yours, that image will be shattered and replaced with the image of a loser] - Draco

[Shut up Draco! My sister loves me and she would never think low of me] - Said as he pulled out a rectangle and applied mana to it

*Ten Seconds Later*

"So what does it do exactly" - Noelle asked

"It makes a white dot, and then it launches the white dot to the other side of the rectangle" - Noah

"Ok, then what?" - Noelle

"It bounced back" - Noah

"Then...?" - Noelle

"Then it's done" - Noah

"So what did we gain from doing that?" - Noelle

"We got to watch the dot bounce off the other side" - Noah

"So you skipped work to do this, which by the way the captain wants to talk to you about that. Apparently someone called mushroom-head called the captain and the captain was so pissed. Besides skipping work, you slept while sitting down, and you probably hadn't eaten in a long while" - Noelle

"I know it looks bad, I actually made progress" - Noah defended himself

"Really?" [Really?]

"Yes. I mean this is my first time, so I got to get my feet wet" - Noah was defending himself against the two of them.

"Well, anyway let's go back to the base. The captain wants to have a chat with you" - Noelle said as she walked away.

Noah sighed and walked after her. He had spent the entire journey back, just bracing himself for captain Yami.
