Chapter 56

The vague sounds of scuffling behind me drew my attention, and when I looked, I saw Trev fighting off several of the officers trying hard to get to me. But Trev's murderous gaze was on the officer standing behind me, who looked almost as if he were a mouse caught in the gaze of a cat. I stepped in front of the officer and raised my one good arm up to Trev.

“Trev, stop!” I said firmly.

Well, as firmly as I could despite how weak I felt. That did not matter, though it had gotten Trev’s attention like I had wanted it to.

“Stop,” I repeated softly. “He didn’t mean to.”

He stopped struggling and the men took that opportunity to cuff him before he could do anything else. They had to drag him to the squad car, but his eyes never left mine. He mouthed something that oddly looked like the words "I love you," but I knew I had to be mistaken.
