Chapter 2

Breezie's POV.

I gazed at myself in the mirror one last time. My light periwinkle hair shimmered in the sunlight. My light blue eyes glowed with excitement. Todays the day! Today is the day I'm going to see if I have a partner! I put on my sky blue dress that goes down to my knees. It hugged my thin frame. It's the dress that I have been eyeing in the store for the past weeks. I have to thank my mother for buying some water element pearls hat matches my dress. I tied my hair in a high ponytail and left my room. The ceremony will begin in 45 minutes. My mom walked towards me with her arms out for a hug.

"I'm so proud of you," she whispered into my ear. "I wish your father was here to see this. All our little girls, all grown up" she sighed.

My father... he was a very brave warrior. He died while defending our kingdom.

"Mom, we need to get the center of the village soon," I replied, pulling away.

"Oh, yes. Yes, we do," she answered, instantly perking up "Go tell you sisters to get ready. And hurry up."

I nodded and walked towards Cloustice's room. I knocked on the door and opened it. "Mom said that we have to leave soon. So hurry up." I said.

"Ok," My sister replied while doing her nails. She's the middle child. She helps mom at work. They sell silk and jewelry.

"Hurry up," I spoke one last time and walked down the hall to Osta's room. She's the oldest sister and the only one who has a partner in our family. My father used to have a partner... a hyena name Soar. But he perished with my father.

I opened Osta's door to see her reading a magazine on her bed.

"Are you ready to leave?" I asked.

"Yup." She replied, not looking away from the page. Her eagle, Strike, was sitting on her head. "Reading" the magazine.

"You sure?" I asked, eyeing her.

"Yeah." She stated.

"Okay then... you're going in your pajamas?" I demanded.

"What?" She said, looking down. "Oh! I need to change!" She exclaimed, running to her closet.

"How much time do I have?" She asked.

"Uh, about 15 minutes. We still need to fly there." I replied.

"I can't get ready in 15 minutes!!!" she exclaimed.

"Deal with it," I stated and walked out of her room. I sat down on the couch, which is made out of soft clouds.

After a while, we used our magic to fly towards the center of the village. I noticed that there are already some people wandering around the circular stage. Our village is kind of small, there's only bout 300 people living here. I'm the only one turning 15 this week, so I'm the only one who is going through the partner finding process today. My family and I landed in the front row.

After a few minutes, a woman with greying purple hair landed in the center of the circular stage. A burly man landed next to her, holding a puffy cloud cushion. He set it down, the cushion floated in the air as the lady sat down upon it.

"We will start immediately." She said quickly in a squeaky voice. "Breezie, hurry up. Get on stage. Stop in front of me and hold out your hand. Palm facing up."

I flew up onto the stage and landed in front of the Wise-one as I was instructed to do. My dress flowed in the gentle breeze.

The woman nodded and snapped her fingers. The beefy man that I saw before came up with a jar and handed it to her. She reached into it and pulled out a small purplish-blue cloud.

"I will place this cloud of Zalop into your hand. You will then close your hand, causing it to disappear. Then you'll know if you have a partner or not immediately." She said, handing the jar back. She placed the cloud onto my palm and sat back, watching.

I looked out towards to crowd of 40-50 people. I closed my hand, the cloud disappeared in a cold breeze.

Suddenly, the air grew still. Very still. Then, a small tornado touched down next to me, frightening me and the crowd. It whirled around the stage, circling around me then abruptly faded into a mist. The crowd murmured as a figure took form inside the mist. A breeze blew the mist away, revealing a majestic white pegasus.

"That can't be him!" Someone in the crowd blurted.

"It is him!" Someone else shouted.

"It's Zalop!" My sister, Osta screeched.

The crowd grew silent as Zalop nickered and trotted towards me. Spreading his wings, he lowered his head to me. I tentatively reached out my hand and placed it onto his forehead. I can't believe I'm touching the legendary Air element beast, I thought.

A bright light flashed in the sky, and a dark shadow appeared on the stage. A cloaked woman touched down next to me.

"I am Selia. Leader of the Cloaked Callers." She announced. "I am here because you have summoned 1 of the 4 legendary beasts. You must come with me. You will train with the other 3 summoners of the legendary beasts."

My mother and 2 sisters stepped onto the stage.

"How do we know you're telling the truth?" My mother asked putting her arm around my shoulders.

"I have proof." The woman said and disappeared just to reappear with a fire element boy with a red and gold dragon.

"This is Coal, the summoner of Sactom. He agreed to come with me. If you don't, the air element will be pulled into the Century War. Zalop and his summoner is part of the prophecy to stop the Century War with the other 3 beast summoners." Selia explained.

"So? Are you going to join the Cloaked Callers or stay here? To let your element get sucked into the war?" Coal demanded. Sactom huffed and narrowed his eyes.

"I-" I stuttered.

My family looked at me and said gently "It's your choice."

I sighed and looked at Zalop. He looked at me, and nickered, looked at the Cloaked Caller's leader, Coal, and Sactom, and then back at me. He stepped towards them and looked back at me, spreading his white feathery wings.

"I'm going with them. Mom." I replied, "Zalop wants me to go."

My mom nodded, tears formed in her eyes. "Stay safe." She said, "I don't want to lose anyone else."

I hugged my mom and my sisters joined.

"Good-bye," I said, pulling away from them and turned to Selia, Coal, Sactom, and Zalop... my legendary partner. My friend.
