I was worried when Devon took a lot of time upstairs. He was holding a letter which I presumed was from his mom earlier. I have already made lunch for us, but I have not heard from him. I have decided to follow him upstairs. I knocked on the door, but only heard deep sighs inside. I gathered the courage to open the door.
His room had gray color schemes on his wall showing masculinity. His room has a geometric motif, and his furniture was layered out in practical comfort. I found him sitting on the bed in the middle of the room.
His hands covered his face while his elbows were placed on his thighs. I walked towards him and then stopped in front of him, but he did not bother moving. I sighed, I glanced at the letter beside him and found Alana's name, his mom, on the bottom of the letter. I could not help but feel pity. I sighed again and took it then quickly read it.
I sat with him in silence hugging him. I felt his despair. He was just like me; he was also victimized by his father but unknowingly. I was astounded to know what Aunt Alana had gone through. Then I realized Alpha Apollo's deception with Aunt Alana is connected to his act of exterminating the Katana wolf pack.
I was right all along. He had taken extreme measures because of greed. He wanted to harness our packs' ability. But he failed to notice a small detail. He was not a Katana wolf's true mate so none of us could share any of it with him. He sat straight and stared at me. His face had a mixture of disbelief and anger. I cupped his face the wiped his tears. Place his head next to the side of my neck to calm him down. He was breathing heavily.
After a moment of silence...
"We should eat", I told him. He nods.
I stood and grabbed his hand. I ushered him downstairs towards the kitchen. I placed our food over the counter island. He just followed me, without any word. He sat on the stool next to the counter island. I sat next to him. He stared at the food without touching it. I had managed to cook a steak and some fries on the side.
"I'm sorry for what father did to you and your pack. I understand if you want to sever our bond" him not making eye contact. I tried moving him with his shoulder forcing him to face me then I cupped his face then looked directly into his eyes.
" It was not what you are doing, you do not have to apologize. You and Aunt Alana are just victims just like me". I tried to console him. He just nodded then sighed. We both sighed.
"Come on Devon, you can make this right. I do not know how, but you need to convince your dad. There's no way he can harness a Katana's ability." I hold his hands and squeeze them.
"I am so worried he might find a way to take your powers from you." his voice full of concern.
"Even he ends up killing me, still he won't be able to have any of these." I told him. I spread my arm swayed my head side to side.
"You know I won't let that happen" he hugged me then whispered. "I'll protect you." I heard him utter.
I pushed him gently and stared at him then smiled at him. He smiled back but his smile did not reach his eyes. It was full of despair.
" Do you know when we will experience our second wave of bond?" He said, trying to change the topic. He faced the counter, picked up the fork stirring the food on his plate with it.
"Honestly, I have no idea. We just have to stick together." It will be only 5 days until the full moon. So, we can't really predict when exactly it will be." Then I looked at him. "Do you really want to complete the bond with me?" I said while staring at him.
"Without a doubt" he smiled at me. I can see sincerity in his eyes now.
"So how do you intend to spend the next 5 days? You can't go anywhere else without me." I asked him out of curiosity.
"I'm staying here with you. This place is safe for us now. I will just have to come up with a plan on how we can address the problem with Tessa and Dad after we complete the bond." He spoke.
"How about your father? Tessa might find a way to use spell so that they could attack us here." I asked.
"Tessa has this book called Grimoires in the basement of our pack house. I am afraid she might find a way to destroy my mom's barrier." He explained.
"Why is Tessa helping your father?" I asked him. I furrowed my brows thinking of it. "Witches do not live outside a coven; Why were you attacked by witches back then?" I added.
"It's a shame I do not know how to answer your questions, Ayumi. I have been asking my father the same. But I never received an answer. I grew up knowing she was around. I can now discern why my mom felt so distant about her. Mom kept avoiding her, it was uncomfortable having them in the same room back then."
I nodded, processing the things that he had told me. I faced the counter again, picked up the fork and knife then started slicing the piece of stake on my plate. I observed Devon doing the same.
"Do you have any regrets? You paired with me? You could have blamed the Moon Goddess. Unfortunately, you were mated to me. A person with a fuck3d up father." I heard Devon. I could barely hear him say it.
"Honestly, I did, I blamed the Moon Goddess but after knowing you.... You are more than enough." I answered while glancing at him.
"I'm giving you a chance to change your mind." I heard him say his voice was laced with despair. I just smirked at him then answered:
"Nice try but you're stuck with me mate" His laugh erupted upon hearing what I have said.
