Chapter 30: The Final Descent
The third level of the dungeon opened up like a vast underworld, an eerie mockery of the world above. The ceiling loomed sixty feet overhead, covered in strange, glowing fungi that bathed the ruins below in a dim, sickly light. The air was heavy and stale, thick with a foul stench of decay and dark magic. As they moved forward, their footsteps echoed ominously off the stone floor, each sound swallowed quickly by the oppressive silence.
James and his companions stepped cautiously into the ruins of what appeared to be an ancient city. The walls and buildings had long since crumbled into jagged heaps of stone, with only a few towers still standing, their windows dark and hollow like the eyes of long-dead giants. It was clear this place had been grand once, but now it was nothing more than a tomb, a monument to death and despair.
"The scale of this place is incredible," Yori muttered, her voice tight with unease. "What could've caused such destruction?"
