"First., Xu Hui." The Elder who had greeted them called out.
"Come to the center of the field."
A petite, young girl with a long, flowery dress waked forward. She looked up with eyes filled with nervousness.
"Mortal Physique, trash Spirit." The elder said.
Once he said it, however, there was an extended period of silence. No one said anything, and the girl's face grew uglier with every passing second.
"Please step back. Next, Dong Yijun."
The girl had tears in her eyes as she turned back and ran to the back of the group.
"Why do these people even expect to get selected? Isn't becoming an elder's disciple a rare feat?" Li Feng thought to himself.
Meanwhile, a young, thin man walked up to where Xu Hui stood before.
He looked up at the elders with a confident face.
"Mortal Physique, Lord Spirit."
"Wow, then someone like this should technically be taken right?" Li Feng thought to himself.
Once again, though, a long silence ensued. Dong Yijun's face turned ugly as he looked up with shock.
How did someone like him, with a mortal and lord talent not get selected by the elders?
"Next. Shan Jiang."
"Trash Physique, Trash Spirit."
A boy went forward with his head down. If even the lord ranked talents were getting declined, how was he ever going to get a chance?
A few seconds of silence later, the elder moved on to the next name.
Name after name got called and Li Feng noticed how the order was the reverse of whoever went up the staircase.
That would mean that Li Feng would get called at the very end.
No one had any elders call upon them, and it seemed like almost no one was going to have an elder take them up as a disciple.
"Sima Xun."
The big badly went up at the center, looking up with some confidence.
He had a lord physique, one of the few in the batch. Even though the last one was rejected, maybe he had a chance?
But once again, a silence continued.
"Sigh." Sima Xun shook his head, ready to turn back.
"Sima Xun. You are of the Sima Family in the West Wind Town, correct?" A rough voice came from the elders' box.
Sima Xun quickly nodded.
"Yes, Elder. I am from that family."
"And your proficiency of the Raging Tempest Sword is at what level?"
The voice asked again.
"I have attained completion, Elder."
"Good then. Seventh Elder, Mighty Sword Peak. Will you become my disciple?" The voice asked.
Sima Xun's face lit up as he quickly nodded, falling to the ground.
"Sima Xun pays his respects to teacher." He said as he kowtowed seven times, knocking his head on the ground.
"Good, good. After you are settled in, enter the Mighty Sword Peak." The voice said.
"Next…."
The elder started calling on the other disciples who were left. But they didn't share the luck that Sima Xun did, and quickly, there were only three left.
"Please, I need to get lucky." Li Feng chanted in his head as he glanced at the elder who was calling out the names.
"Li Feng."
Li Feng took a deep breath and stepped up to the center of the giant field.
He looked up at the elders, his brows knit with tension.
"Mortal Physique, King Spirit"
For a second, there was silence.
Li Feng's heart fell.
"Looks like Sima Xun got lucky because of his family then. After all, what cultivation do I have? I have no skills yet." Li Feng sighed.
"Gentle Sword Peak, Tenth Elder." Suddenly, a wise voice startled Li Feng.
Li Feng looked up, trying to gauge who had just spoken.
"Seventh Elder, Mighty Sword Peak."
"Fourth Elder, Swift Sword Peak"
Three voices suddenly went up, and Li Feng felt a feeling of calm flow through him.
"Thank god. And three people have asked me? But wouldn't taking one of them offend the other?" He thought to himself.
"Which one should I choose? Should I go with the higher ranked elder?" He thought to himself.
"Second Elder."
A simple voice said. Two words. That was it. No peak was called, nothing else was called. Just his title was called.
Li Feng's body shook.
"This person… he is strong. Just his voice alone is enough to give me shivers." Li Feng thought to himself.
"Ah! I didn't know the Second Elder had some interest in the boy. I will take a step back, then." the Seventh Elder suddenly said.
Li Feng's eyes opened with surprise.
"He is strong enough for another elder to apologize and give way? Will he be the right choice?"
Li Feng knew this was an opportunity that he couldn't let go.
Nodding, he bent on the ground.
"Li Feng accepts the Second Elder as his master. Thank you for your kindness, teacher." He said as he bowed down on the ground seven times.
"Good. Come to the Disciplinary Hall later." The second elder called out.
"The Disciplinary hall? So the second elder is not in charge of a peak. He is in charge of the disciplinary Hall." Li Feng thought to himself.
"Then I wonder what the first and third elders are in charge of." Immediately, the thought ran through his mind.
"Good. Good." The elder who was calling out the names chuckled.
"Alright then. Next. Qin Bo."
Li Feng went back, and he stared at the yellow robed boy who walked forward.
Who didn't stare at him?
"Lord Physique, Saint Spirit."
"First Elder."
Almost immediately, a voice went up.
"The first elder? I guess these two are big enough for the first elder to step in after all. Maybe every elder will try to take them in." Li Feng thought to himself.
But instead, not a single voice came up after the first elder spoke.
Qin Bo smiled.
"I greet my teacher." He cupped his hands together.
"No need to knowtow. We shall take care of the formalities later. Report to the Elder's Hall."
