Damien held back as they approached the open door. Unfortunately, they were downwind from whoever was inside the building, so while they could scent shifters, he had no idea who or what they were.
He moved until he could see both the door and any possible threats coming from behind. It had never been an issue for him before, being the rear guard of his smaller pack. In fact, it was something that he normally took great pride in.
His packmates never had to worry about ambushes from behind because he was there, acting as a wall between them and any danger they couldn't see. Lucien always went into a situation first, followed by Raphael, then Dom, and finally, him.
It had been that way for as long as Damien could remember. Even as kids going to elementary school, Lucien went into the classroom first, and Damien would be last.
