"It's cute that you think it matters where the money is coming from," laughed Scarlet, her teasing tone echoing through the elevator. "I am not sure which country you call home or if you even do. But here, as long as it is done on our soil, we think of it as ours. Which means that the money used to fund you might as well have come directly from the taxpayer's pocket."
General Foster snorted at that statement while I sent up a little prayer of thanks that Scarlet was so capable of handling herself under pressure. I would have definitely been sweating by now.
"You New Worlders do seem to have a heightened opinion of yourselves," smiled Foster.
Scarlet simply shrugged her shoulders. "The thing is that in war, we want to always be able to say that the actions we took were justified. If there is something even remotely suspicious about our actions, the public will take it out and shove it down our throats for decades to come."
