Before the Abyssfall Incident

[ ~ Chapter • Start ~ ]

The journey to Howard was long, maybe it went on for a few hours.

And those few hours were mostly filled with silence, as Satoru shifted his glasses and read a notebook he made hours after they were unwillingly summoned to Tortus.

It's pages looked empty, that was because it was imbued with certain properties that only his glasses can reveal unless complicated magic spells were used.

Kouki glanced at him, wanting to say, or maybe ask something from him. But he silenced himself, he might bother him with whatever thing he had been reading.

And then, he closed his notebook, glancing up on his students.

"Did you have something to say? Perhaps on what I have been almost tirelessly doing for the past few days except fighting crime and helping random people?" He asked with a gentle smile.

"You did?" This time, it was Shirasaki who leaned forwards.

"Hmm... I've been using that shop to make new equipment for the 24 of you, and obviously, only Endou and Eri gained their specific equipment from me." He explained, before digging into his pocket and taking out certain artifacts.

What he done was merely a simple trick to bring out said artifacts, nothing more.

The items he brought out were two brass knuckles (for Jugo), a golden bangle (for Kouki), an earring (for Shizuku), and a silver bangle (for Kaori). The artifacts were given to the current four students as they immediately wore those in wonder.

Then, he took the sword that Shizuku has, and then modified it with a simple usage of transmutation.

When he was thanked, he just leaned back and sighed as small chatter, hooves clicking, and wheels rolling were only heard from outside. Dusk was coming, and he would need a few hours of rest away from the nagging headache he had always kept in check.

However, he had never felt this tired before.

"Teacher, is something wrong?" Jugo asked, sharing worried expressions with everyone inside this carriage.

"No, I just feel very tired from all the work I've done making your artifacts. It's one of my many skills as somebody of the Sage Class, you know?" He replied, yawning loudly whilst covering his mouth with his hand.

Kouki, thinking that the Sage Class is equal to his own class of Hero, knew that is the case. His ability to create those artifacts were also astonishing, to the point where he would be able to make artifacts for the humans of this world to help them fight against the demons, right?

So, his hard work should pay off later.

This naive thinking of his was basically right, in some parts, but the rest was purely speculation. Satoru would never or rarely make artifacts for anybody in this world even if he knew they needed one.

"Don't worry, teacher. Just go on and rest, we're almost there!" Kouki said to assure him.

Satoru nodded with droopy eyes, trying to keep himself awake for a longer while. However, it seems like he was too tired.

The next moment, he was standing in front of the throne in the room deep inside his (Oscar's) Labyrinth.

He was recalling something of this past life again. His head felt numb for an entire minute, but eventually he regained his bearings.

His past life's self was tiredly walking up to his throne, even coughing out blood once in a while.

"Have I failed....?" A depressing, husky voice came out of "my" mouth, all while he held the armrests of "my" throne, before quickly sitting on it. "All these years, to make the crystal of divinity and even try to create the ambrosia of the past, turned into a failure?!"

Oscar looked up at this room's ceiling, sighing deep in regret, and eventually, acceptance.

"I see.... I'm still mildly disappointed in you, Miledi. But, I'm not even going to blame you this time. The past few years have already gone, and it is time for me to finally rest, hoping someone would liberate this world from the rule of the gods." Oscar spoke, rubbing his temple while properly sitting on the throne.

"I've already deactivated the shadow maids after they cleaned up this very place, prepared every sort of traps and created monsters far stronger than even the strongest people could handle as a massive trial, what's next?" He said to himself, before taking out something from his pocket.

It was a picture of seven people, and Oscar was one of them.

"Struggle to the very end, huh? Then I suppose this struggle is over. Goodbye, dear friends." He spoke as he put the image back into his pocket and closed his eyes.

Not a smile was seen from him. He looked like he had almost given up, yet tried not showing it.

But....

Suddenly Oscar slammed his fists on his armrests, opening his eyes in rage, clarity and even hope!

"What am I thinking? Why do I think of resting? No, this isn't over yet! Miledi, those orphans, my companions, the Liberators..... I remember a legend about reincarnation that I've been fascinated about for a while before I was put into the Liberators....." Oscar muttered, before he immediately stood up.

"I still have mana, I still have everything in my disposal, though I need help from the golem maids...." He continued, marching calmly towards the entrance of the room. "I need..... to reincarnate."

"But first, I need to fix my damaged soul."

Satoru began to see Oscar doing everything he has while his life lasted, preparing a powerful magic circle and making sure he is still alive long enough to prepare for a powerful reincarnation spell.

Maybe a curse was a better way to say it. Oscar cursed himself to reincarnate until the time where he finally returned to Tortus armed with powerful weapons, techniques, and knowledge.

.....

And thus, Satoru had now recollected all of Oscar's memories, along with the true reason why he reincarnated.

In fact, he really was Oscar Orcus. And thousands of years have passed since he returned to Tortus.

Now, he had woken up.

Because he was inside a room that looked like it was from an inn, he realized he could still spend some time exercising and put whatever he is supposed to do later.

And so, he unbuttoned his suit and shirt, put aside his tie on the table, and began to stretch his body.

While he exercised, he realized he had been carried here by his students, and if this was inside a hotel, then their own expenses were already paid.

The door opened, and Eri entered the room.

"Sensei-?" She wanted to say something, but she saw Satoru completely shirtless, exercising.

"Oh, good morning Eri." Satoru said, before he stood up and approached her.

Suddenly, she was pushed towards the nearby wall, her teacher's hand put near her head.

"Is this.... Kabedon?" She asked, before Satoru suddenly kissed her

*flick!*

"Ow!"

She had been pulled back from her imaginations by Satoru flicking her head.

"Nah, not now." Satoru said, turning towards the clothing he has and immediately wearing them with some use of magic

Soon enough, he was greeted with students who invited him to join them in their large breakfast.
