Chapter 0006 - Guys, He Is Back

*****

"Have you heard, that a fourth-year student of our school accepted a marriage proposal from an extremely wealthy and influential person last night?"

"Ah… I also learned of this last night, and if it weren't for you reminding me, I would have completely forgotten that. Do you know that I slept so late in the night, checking all the news about the proposal? oh… I so much envy the schoolmate."

"Same as me. As in, in this world and day, where countless beauties are all over the world, where would one find a wealthy man who would propose and want to marry us, who is from a poor background."

"But guys, do you think that what the lady did to her ex was good? I learned that he had been the one sponsoring her school and taking care of all her needs since the day she became a student of our school."

"Pfft... Spare me your nonsense. Who sends the loser to handle such matters? I heard that the poverty-stricken bastard can even barely afford a meal a day, yet he's playing caretaker for someone else. Hasn't he realized that fully supporting a woman financially is a risky bet, with less than a 10% chance of her ending up with him?"

"But… huh, guys, look at that person, why does he resemble the picture of that loser that was posted on the school platform last night?"

"Wait… he seemed to be the one though, I mean, the appearance, starting from the faded and dirty cloth to the disorganized appearance was the carbon copy of that guy."

"What are you ladies even talking about? Of course, that was him. He was the fool, who had been spending his entire life working, to pay for all the expenses of another man's woman."

"What?! Hahahahah! How come I've never come across a fool like this before, who would take care of me till I find my own incredibly wealthy husband?!"

….

Ever since Ares entered the school premises and started strolling toward his dormitory, conversations like the above were what he had been hearing.

At first, he was shocked to the core, knowing that what had happened the previous night had already managed to be learned by everybody that fast, but then eventually, he understood that it wasn't really shocking, as he had seen several of Sarah's classmates at the proposal party last night.

Ares clenched his fists. Of course, he was furious, hearing how he was being jeered and mocked by everybody, but he ignored and acted as though he couldn't feel their unhidden scorn and mockery toward him. He has much more pressing matters in his mind at this moment.

Before long, Ares was at his Dormitory.

At first, he thought everybody had gone to their respective classes as the place was silent, but then suddenly;

"Guys, he is back!!!"

As though they had been waiting for Ares to step his feet into his dorm, a sudden roar of excitement filled the place, and then immediately, all the boys of the dormitory, most of whom were only in their underpants and singlets came rushing out of their respective rooms, toward Ares with cocky faces filled with mockery.

"All hail the biggest loser in the history of Bee University!!!"

"And here is the man who had been wasting all his lives to help sponsor another man's woman all these years, where is the golden medal!!!"

"The first person in Bee University to win the award of the greatest simp!!! All hail lord Ares!!!"

Ares, "_"

Ares was too dumbstruck by this sudden scene, to react.

He couldn't help but stare around blankly for a while before he eventually became covered to the brim with embarrassment.

While everyone had been ridiculing and discussing him since he arrived at the school, they had been doing so in private conversations, and not directly confronting him or engaging with him like his fellow dormitory mates are presently doing.

Ares felt deeply embarrassed and he couldn't help but wish that the ground would open up and swallow him up as he experienced a level of humiliation he had never known in his life as his fellow men gleefully celebrated his foolishness, stupidity, and the fact that his treasured girlfriend had become engaged to another man.

He wasn't able to move at all until suddenly. "You bunch of no goods, do you think you are all making sense now, turning our roommate into your source of entertainment?!"

A sudden roar that was filled with anger rose, and then immediately following that, it was as if someone began to forcefully cut through the crowd, pushing everybody aside.

"Was it our roommates' fault that you bunch of sissies had been single all your lives? How dare you all mock his breakup to this extent?"

Ares immediately searched for the source of these voices, he directly realized that they belonged to his two roommates.

He was even more embarrassed beyond words, as these two had constantly warned him in the past about Sarah, but he had chosen not to speak to them again. That was how he always behaved to anybody who spoke badly about Sarah then.

….

"Third bro, where has your cell phone been since yesterday? We've been trying your number since we learned about the news, are you okay?"

"Why did you not return to the dorm last night? We've been nervous till daybreak, hoping that you hadn't done something you shouldn't have done, because of that underserved bitc… girl."

As soon as they managed to drag him out of the encirclement of the crowd and escape him inside their room while locking the bunch of bastards, who had run after them to continue mocking Ares outside, his roommates began to gaze at him with concern, throwing one question after another at him.

The more Ares hears from them and feels their genuine concern, the more guilty and apologetic he feels, for fighting them in the past, when they were merely looking out for him.

Suddenly, Ares stood up and bowed at an angle of 90° for them, instantly dumbfounding his roommates.

"Third… Third bro, what are you doing?"

One of the two hurriedly queried and tried helping Ares up, but Ares wouldn't budge.

"I know I don't deserve to be forgiven, and even more do I not deserve your kindness, but please forgive me for not listening to you in the past, when you were merely looking out for me. Please forgive me."

"This…"

The mouths of the two guys opened and they stared speechlessly at Ares for a moment, then they sighed and helped him up.

"It's fine, third bro. Even though we were upset with you back then for making us enemies when the real enemy was clear, you're still our brother who would go out of his way to help us when we were all new here, so we're not offended anymore."

"Hmmm. That's right, Third brother. Although we are not blood-related, I believe that it is only right for us to look out for each other and help ourselves out in a time of need, so, it's okay, let's just forget the past and return to how we had once been when we were just admitted."

"I…"

Listening to his brother's genuine words, Ares suddenly felt a stinging sensation in his eyes which was followed by something hot trying to fall, but he forced it in.

For some reason, his regret only intensified, when he heard his brother's words.

He deeply regretted heeding Sarah's advice and abandoning his friends all because she claimed not to like them. He even so much regretted it, now realizing he had gone too far by not speaking to them again, despite sharing the same living space every day since they warned him about Sarah insisting that she was only using him.
