Apocalyptic Family Reunion

"I'm alive?" Stated Emilia Lu as she blankly stared at the 24-year-old version of herself in the mirror of her old room. This is the room Emilia Lu had stayed in 6 years ago. The house that she had spent almost all her savings on 8 years before her death when she moved to City A for a new start.

Hand fumbling to the dresser next to her, Emilia reaches for her phone. Once in her grasp, she immediately turns it on and brings it to her face which still stares at the mirror in front of her in shock. On the screen of her phone displayed the date of 7 years ago, 15 April 20XX.

"I came back... I'm back "she says still reeling in shock. "But now I clearly remember falling from the top of the base wall. Even if the fall didn't kill me, those zombies at the bottom should have torn me apart."

Slowly stumbling to the window, Emilia Lu firmly grasps the curtains covering the window in her hands as if she was holding on to reality, praying that it would not be broken after opening the curtains that block her from the reality outside, the view of the damaged world. Hoping that this was not a dream, her last wishful thought before her spirit drifts off and joins the rest in Nirvana.

After finally stabilizing her mental state and coming to peace with the fact that this might just be a dream, Emilia opens the curtains in a single motion wanting for this fake reality to end and not torture her anymore. But what comes into view is not the damaged world she imagined.

Through her window she could see the clear skies, people walking to and fro just like in past, busy shops and undamaged buildings. Everything was just the way it once was before when the world was still beautiful.

" I am back, it's ALL REAL!! I've been given a second chance, IM BACK!"

Finally letting the reality of her rebirth sink in, Emilia let her tears of joy and excitement fall down her two pale cheeks as she stares joyfully at the scene outside. A scene so ordinary but represented a lot, represented a new chance at life, a chance to do things differently. A chance to live life to the fullest and not just survive.

Emilia was still invested in her thoughts when a soft milkfish voice broke through her daze and went straight to her heart.

"Mommy...? Mommy are you ok?"

Emilia quickly turned around to face the direction from where the sound came from, and right there by the door stood her 6-year-old son!!!

Only then did Emilia come to realize that since she traveled back in time from the future her son who dies two years later in the apocalypse still existed in this timeline.

Honestly, the only reason why she lasted as long as she did even though her son died early was her desire for revenge. She wanted to fight to the very end with all the zombies to avenge her son who died early.

Another reason was the fact that Qin Lu was her only relative, so his death meant that she was alone.

After she was pregnant with him at 18 after a drunken night at the bar, she fled to City A to raise him by herself in peace.

Though she knew it was cowardly to run she wasn't able to bear the thought of her parents and brother's disappointed eyes, so she ran, ran from her problems.
