Anterograde

Wealthy and beautiful Angela thinks no one will ever know about her dark, terrible past. Being thrown out by her stepdad and having no place to go, she is forced to do things for survival. "After developing an application that made her rich, she becomes a popular figure; of course, everyone wants a piece of the pie, even the person who hates you the most." Angela never for a moment thought someone would threaten to expose her. Now she's being given the alternative. You will do as I say or pay the price. Her past has reared its ugly head. Angela has to find the blackmailer and deal with him by whatever means. Run Angela screamed Jessica as Angela sprinted through the woods with wind bustling through the branches of the trees, making the leaves howl in their symphony. Running along the gravel path in the woods makes her realize how intricate the clash between weather and nature can be. Two natural forces are both in harmony and constantly fighting. The rain would come down any second; its distinct smell filled the air. Plush, intertwining clouds pushed their grey front toward where I stood. The trees continued protesting against the wind as it blew their seeds. Maple seeds twirled down, only to get stuck on my clothes and in the creek. Angela stopped by the edge of the river; she placed a hand on her chest, her heart wouldn't stop raging against her rib cage, and she fought to keep silent a small whimper. Her heart was so loud she feared it would give her away; it was so loud in her ears; she thought the creature that used to be someone she once trusted would hear it and tear it from her. "Who is there? She screamed, looking back and hearing footsteps getting closer. Until she stopped and looked back, there stood a man with a mask, holding a knife; who was this person? Being diagnosed with anterograde amnesia made her unable to create new memories; her past kept haunting her. is it the same person who is always killing her in her dreams?

Chapter 69

"Why is everyone afraid of him?" Nicole asked.

"Well, sooner or later, you will know more about him. Rogan is not the type of guy you see here; he is a well-known international person, and people he deals with are in the underworld."

"The underworld?" Nicole said.

"Yes, where the money laundering, drugs gangs, and druglords are. He spent billions on creating that market. Have you heard of the site salt that comes from the dark web? Well, Rogan has the real thing running."

"Does that not create alot of enemies? Make people dislike you?"

"Of course. Why do you think I kept my identity a secret?"

My brother never exposes himself, which is why I am surprised we came here. Angela looked over at Jessica, "what about you, Jessica? How do you feel about all this?"

"Angela, we've come a long way. You would know how I feel about it but, just like." Angela stopped her, "rather not say."

Jessica nodded, "so she dont know, does she?"

"I dont know what?" Nicole said.

"That my brother joined the army long ago, and he has PTSD."

Nicole smiled, "I knew that he tells me everything."

Jessica bites into the apple, "he does, hey?"

Nicole nodded proudly.

"We are back, ladies. I hope we never kept you waiting."

Rogan wore a stylish tuxedo, and Jack wore a suit. Marcus was casually dressed, "if I knew we were playing dress-up, I would have gone to change as well," Angela joked.

For a moment, Angela stared up, her eyes locked with Rogan. She took a deep breath in and exhaled. His lips, eyes, and perfect build drew her to him, but he was dangerous, and he knew he would be killed one day. Because of his business dealings, he works with dangerous under lords who do not go after him but after the ones he loves, which is why he tries hiding his sister's identity best he can.

Angela sat back, looked into his dark eyes, and wondered how many people he had killed while stabbing that guy yesterday. He never winked once, he was like a robot who kept going and going, and the more blood he spilled on him, the angrier he became.

Rogan looked down, then over at his sister, who was watching them. She let out a faint smile; all her life, she knew they had feelings for eachother, and that's why he cared so much about them, not only because of Jack and him being close friends but also because he loved Angela. Jessica took a sip of the glass of wine, looking up at the crystal chandelier, this restaurant has glass-made stairs, and everything was sparkling like a reflection of a diamond being held up in the sun.

Jack glanced over at Nicole. She seemed uneased as she looked up at Jack looked stylish in his white suit, hair perfectly combed to the back. He picked up the glasses and called the waiter, "can you please show us the menu."

Jack carried convinced, and he had an easy-going personality. Rogan, on the other hand, was easygoing but unpredictable. His eyes said it all; anyone to double-cross would mark their fate. What about Jessica, though? She thought between the two, it was like fighting a fire, Jack was not as well known as Rogan, but Jack had a high number of killings.

"So why the silence, guys?" Said Marcus, "are we here to have fun, or are we here to stare at measuring each other's pockets," Jack and Rogan frown.

Nicole felt embarrassed at that remark. Angela glanced over at Marcus, "What do you mean by saying that?"

Marcus realized his choice of words was more than just a thought, "damn, I should have just shut up. When I said measure each other's pockets, I mean, who pays for the meal?" He said, feeling awkward. Right now, he could bury his face in th ground. Everyone was looking at him.

"Marcus, you dont have to worry about the bill," said Angela, uneased at Marcus's remark. Did she date this guy? He's a total Jackass.

Marcus broke into a fake laugh, "I am joking, guys. I am more than capable of paying for this meal."

"You are?" Rogan lifted his eyebrow.

Jessica nudged Rogan, "stop it."

"Why should I stop this guy just comparing us all? Who has more money? Is that not right, Marcus?"

Fuck, what did I do? Marcus thought, "No, Rogan, you have it wrong. I was making a joke because everyone was fucken sitting here staring at eachother with a bunch of teeth in their mouths.

"How convenient, so you think everyone was sitting here measuring each other's pockets?"

"Don't get me started to stop putting words in my mouth," Marcus argued.

"I dont need to put words in your mouth. You're doing a brilliant job on your own," Rogan replied.

His voice thickened, and Jack could tell he was pissed off, "what exactly is your problem? Are you acting like a jealous prick because of me and Angela?"

"Don't make me laugh, dude," Marcus replied, "if I wanted Angela, we would be together, in case you didn't know we dated already."

Everyone was looking over at their table. Did Marcus just say he could get me and make me sound like a cheap slut? Angela thought. She looked up at him, stood up, and walked out. Sitting on the opposite side, Jack felt pissed off but tried to control himself, "Marcus, how can you talk about my sister like that?"

"Jack, I am sorry, man."

Nicole glanced up. Jack was raging with anger as he clenched his fist. "I bet you are."

Rogan then stood up. If it weren't for your friends, I would be wiping the floor with your face now."

Marcus laughed, "you are a nobody. Do you think everyone is scared of you? You're a nobody, and that's why you abandoned."

"Marcus, how dare you?" Said Jessica, "you couldn't even protect your sister from those scums who put their hands on her. You are a coward with a mouth full of words and an empty pocket. Maybe if you were half the man my brother is, your sister would not have gone through what she did."

"Marcus, you should fucken stop now," Jack warned.

"Or what, Jack, you going to beat me up like a coward with Rogan, who is a nobody but a pathetic liar?

"Jack, this guy is not serious. He fucking playing with fire."

"Marcus, I won't tell you again to shut up," Nicole touched his arm as he pulled it away, "you stay here, and I will go for a walk," he stood up and walked out.

"What the fuck got into him? Why am I even tolerating his bullshit," Rogan reached for his phone.

He was about to put a hit on Marcus. Jack looked across the table at Rogan and shook his head, "he's been through alot, and we both know his sister is all family he has," Rogan looked over at Nicole, who sat up with her head to her knees, covering her ears, "no no no" she repeated.

Rogan's eyes were bloodshot red. As he put his phone back, Jessica looked over at Jack. She then stretched her arms across the table and squeezed his hand, letting out a gentle smile, "I am sorry."

Rogan looked at his sister, then at Jack. He wouldn't mind having Jack as a brother-in-law. They were very much alike and had both been through alot of shit together. "I am sorry, man. I never meant this to happen."

Jack shook his head, "you shouldn't be the one apologizing."

That's why Rogan admired Jack so much. Jack's calmness, like his sister, made everything feel okay.

"Where is your sister?" Rogan asked.

"I don't know."

"Perhaps you should go check up on her," Jessica said.

Rogan nodded. When Rogan stood up, everyone in the restaurant recognized him and looked down. No one would dare to confront him about the scene. Rogan stood up, looked across the restaurant, and said, "I apologize, everyone. Life would be boring without a fight here and there."

"Are you not Bullet?" Screamed a gentleman from the back.

No one called Rogan by the name bullet, especially in public places. Rogan looked over to the gentleman who wore a gold suit and a white shirt. He had a massive forehead with a well-trimmed beard.

Rogan looked over at his sister. She knew he was thinking about smashing the guy's head.

She shook her head, indicating he shouldn't touch the guy in the suit, "I am going out to check in on Angela."

"Hey, bullet, would you come and say hello to my family?"

Rogan picked up a knife, and through across the restaurant, the knife landed on the board next to his head, missing him by two inches. The man sat there in shock, "next time, asshole, you won't be so lucky."

Jessica shook her head and smiled, "if I had a temper like his, I'd be killing people all around me."

"Well, it's a good thing you dont. I can't deal with two of him," Jack grinned at Jessica.

"He is not so bad." Jessica stood up and sat next to Jack, "is she okay?"

Jack shook his head, "she will be fine. I appreciate your concern."

Jessica took his hand with both her hands holding down on her lap. "I miss this," she whispered.

They turned to each other and stared at each other for thirty seconds, desperately wanting to kiss him, but Nicole was just beside him.
