Start of Chunin exams

< Naruto's Pov >

"Finally!"

I took a deep breath, stepping out of the apartment. Looking around, I could see the surroundings were busier than usual.

It was not surprising, for today was the day of the chunin exams. I had a headache thinking about all the things I have to do starting today.

On the one hand, there was Orochimaru, and on the other, there was Gaara's outburst.

"Haaaah," I sighed, thinking about the 'Sharingan arm.'

I was not really fond of someone conspiring behind my back. I mean, who would? ... The one I'm talking about is none other than Danzo. The cause of many misfortunes in the hidden leaf village.

"Should I just kill Danzo?" I muttered. "He was the one who even leaked I was the nine-tails Jinchuriki ── so I guess he deserves it."

I scratched my head, contemplating all the options. If I just killed him off ── it might prove detrimental to Konoha, as he was the one who handled most of the intelligence.

'I'll finish him off after Tsunade becomes the Hokage.' I thought as I recalled the deeds Danzo had done, 'With Hiruzen being sent to heaven by Orochimaru ── Danzo's absence, while regrettable, may cause some complications.'

Ah, and yes, I'm not planning to save Hiruzen. Konoha had had enough of its old generation. I don't mean all the others except Danzo and Hiruzen are saints; however, they mainly pose a problem to me now.

As I was thinking about my future plans, my thoughts were broken by a sweet voice I couldn't get enough of.

"Good morning, Naruto-kun."

"Good morning to you too, Hina," Naruto said, looking into Hinata's eyes with a smile. "Where are your teammates?"

"Oh, they said to meet them at the academy gates."

"Same with me. Shall we go then?" I said, extending my hands.

Hinata nodded, taking my hand with a flustered face. She had a hard time maintaining her face, recalling the 'treatment' she received from Naruto.

"How was the training with your dad these days?" Naruto asked as they walked towards the academy.

"Pretty hard. I didn't even get a minute of rest." Hinata said, pouting.

"I guess he really wants you to win, huh?"

"Mmm…" Hinata smiled like she had heard the sweetest thing.

Which daughter doesn't crave the acknowledgment of their father, especially if he's the only parent they have?

After a few minutes, Naruto and Hinata finally reached the academy to see their teams waiting.

Seeing them, Hinata tried to take her hand away, but Naruto didn't let her and kept holding on to it. The boys gave a knowing smile while Sakura looked at them with a red face. At this point, it wasn't even a secret anymore.

"You took your sweet time, didn't you?" Sakura said, secretly taking a glance at Sasuke. However, she shook her head immediately. A determined expression appeared in her eyes.

"Hehe, I apologize," Naruto said, scratching his head with his other hand as he fully displayed his white teeth.

"Can't you tell me your secret to getting girls?" Kiba poked Naruto from the side.

"Be as handsome as me."

His instant reply made everyone speechless. Seeing Naruto's narcissistic look and Kiba's face, they couldn't help but laugh out loud.

Even Sasuke couldn't hold his laughter as he looked at Kiba's deadpan face. While this happened, Hinata silently slipped behind Naruto like an assassin, not wanting to be seen by others.

"Guys, I think it's time we go in," Shino said out of nowhere.

"I guess you are right; let's go!" Kiba, who was in an embarrassing situation, yelled, making his way toward the exam venue.

Others also didn't point it out and followed him inside.

"Who are you looking for?" Rock Lee asked Tenten in a low voice.

"No one ───?" Tenten replied, quickly stopping her probing.

"Do you really expect us to believe that? ... At least try to hide it a bit," Neji said as he leaned on the wall with his hands crossed.

"I don't know what you are talking about." Tenten acted ignorant as she looked away.

A few minutes later, Tenten heard footsteps from the staircase. Looking in that direction, she finally saw the one for whom she had been waiting. Unknowingly, her lips curled up.

Rock Lee was ignorant about the whole situation, but Neji, who was quite observant, didn't need words to get a hold of it.

'So he is the one,' Neji thought, looking at Naruto. 'Isn't he Hinata's lover?' Neji was confused; he was sure Hinata and Naruto had something going on.

Seeing Tenten, Naruto gave a small wave at her, which she returned while Neji and Rock Lee were not looking. At least, that's what she thought because it couldn't really be hidden from Neji's eyes.

On the other hand., Rock Lee was smitten with Sakura and looked at her with an expression like he was going to die for her. Sakura, who saw this, had a look of annoyance and looked away as if she didn't see him.

"Let's go inside," Sasuke said impatiently, making his way toward the exam hall.

Naruto and the others followed him through the crowd. But before they could go inside, two genin from another village stopped them.

"Go back; this isn't a place for you little kids." They mocked Naruto's group, pushing Sasuke back.

Naruto quickly walked up to Sasuke and whispered, "Sasuke, don't do any serious damage. Just beat them up a little."

Hearing this, Sasuke had a smile. He closed in on 'genin 1,' not giving him a chance to react, and directed a jab to the ribs. Just as it was about to hit, Rock Lee came like a flash, trying to stop it.

Expecting this, Naruto intercepted his path and negated his momentum as he gripped his forearm tightly, finally letting it go after a few breaths. Rock Lee was surprised that he couldn't get out of his hold until Naruto did so.

"Don't worry; I told him not to cause any 'major' damage," Naruto said, waving his hands like it was just a simple matter. "I'm Naruto Uzumaki, by the way."

"I'm Rock Lee." He replied, wondering who Naruto was to have such physical power. He wanted to fight with him. Rock Lee was excited, knowing he could go all out on Naruto.

Meanwhile, 'genin 1' who got punched by Sasuke, was leaning against the wall while holding onto his ribs. He furiously tried to attack Sasuke but failed miserably as his every attack was countered by Sasuke, with each counterattack damaging him more and more.

Seeing his friend's state, 'genin 2' tried to intervene. But how could Naruto allow that? So Naruto appeared in the middle of his path. Overcome by anger, 'genin 2' wanted to attack him.

Unfortunately for him, it was not going to go his way. Every single attack of his was dodged by Naruto seamlessly. It made 'genin 2' look like a joke. The main reason for this was the funny faces Naruto was making as he was avoiding the 'genin 2s' attacks.

Especially Hinata and Tenten found it really funny. Maybe they are biased? ─── Who knows?

However, everyone stopped their fight, seeing the proctors coming. The two genins walked aside begrudgingly. Their faces were filled with untold shame.

"What are you all doing here? Go inside." One of the proctors said, pretending they didn't see the fight just now.

Hearing this, everyone hurriedly went inside the exam hall. At this moment, Naruto noticed someone interesting—someone he thought he would never see at this point in time. A girl with red hair wearing glasses.

At first, he had a hard time remembering who she was. Combing through his memory, he eventually recognized her as Karin.

'Did she even participate in the exam? ─── Ah, right ... there was that moment when Sasuke saved her from the bear,' Naruto thought, recalling a particular memory. 'Maybe I can do the hero saving beauty thing in my past memories, hehe.'

With that thought, Naruto also stepped inside the examination hall along with the others.
