"So, why did you come visit me at such a late hour?"

As Miss Hecate uttered these words, I started fidgeting with the silverware I had been using to merrily

eat only a few moments ago. I thus answered:

"It is just that mother reminded me of how I will soon be attending a meeting with other children my age. I am afraid that i will be made the target of mockery."

Librarian Hecate had a surprised look on her face for a few seconds before quickly regaining her

composure.

"Children who have yet to grow up can be quite cruel between each other. I assume that you of all people should know that. One quick way to get rid of the mockery and a part of the rumors is to become very good in a field. Nobody wants to talk in the back of a warrior. That would be a huge blunder if you do not have enough backing to protect yourself and the ones around you."

I had a confused look on my face as I replied.

"But what can I become an expert at? I have an average body for a dragon who has yet to reach maturity. I am also pretty sure that magic wouldn't be my cup of tea. I am a failure."

Realizing the conversation was turning sour, Hecate tried to help me overcome the sadness and self-loathing that was starting to close its clutches around my heart.

"Well unless you try, you will never know if you have talent or not. Mages didn't know that they had good talent at communicating with the world until they started diving into books."

"Why not give it a shot?" she continued

Grateful but still doubtful, I uttered a few words that sounded simple but had implications of enormous size on our small household.

"Thank you for the suggestion, I will try to convince my parents about it."

On Hecate's face was now a full smile. She smiled back at me and continued

"Well we do have a few books about the basics of magic in the library; If you want you can check their content."

Just as she was going back to sorting all kinds of numbers meaningless to me, I started wandering the library in search of the so called basics of magic.

At first, I was a bit lost amongst the gigantic shelves. Whilst searching for the fabled book, I crossed books such as "The basics of alchemy" or various other myths. Of course, I ignored them as I was not interested in them in the least.

After walking among all of these books, I got sidetracked and started reading a book titled "Races and their characteristics in the earthly realm"

My interest piqued, I started avidly eating the content that the book provided me.
