Maevris was the next to talk, with a mouth full of trail mix, "So, why aren't you and your sister together? Didja have a bitch fit? Fighting with each other? Ooooh… Is her beard nicer than yours?"
We sighed and groaned, putting Our head in Our hands. Nao started to giggle like a child, before turning to Maevris and saying, "You truly are a silly one. But no.
My sister and I have been separated for quite a while because; while my job is to try to build a new temple in Kara Tur, her job is to be a missionary and spread their worship as far as she can. We are trying to do everything we can to put Kara Tur on a good and righteous path again."
Ezri, sounding inquisitive, decided to ask a question, "Alright… so, why are you here in Faerun, if you're trying to build a temple in Kara Tur?"
We nodded along, adding onto her statement, "That is a good question. Why are you 1200 miles from your actual goal?"
"Well I told you… For the Guardian Games. See, the winner of the Games gets 3 very important things. A large amount of gold, a set of Magical items… And the Winning Noble can ask a single favor of the King."
We contemplated everything that she said, and as we did, our truth spell wore off. We sighed, and looked at Nao, before saying "We don't want to have to cast that again… So, is your favor to ask for his help in spinsoring the temple?"
She nodded, looking over at the bodies of the men she brought with her sadly, before saying, "I guess it's over though… I should just start to head back to Kara Tur… I can't compete without champions.
I was really hoping to get a leg up, as things in Kara Tur are starting to get pretty dangerous…" Nao wiped a tear from her eyes before continuing. "And I was really hoping to meet up with my sister in Novar…"
Maevris smiled wide, and cheerfully said, "Hey, no worries! We can be your champions!"
The rest of us all looked at her incredulously, saying "We Can???" Practically in unison.
"Well… yeah, why not?" She asked. inquisitively.
Lavender scoffed, "Because, dwarf, we are on a quest for the guild, in case you forgot."
We nodded in agreement, "It is not in Our nature to abandon a given quest. Especially one that may affect the safety of Novar."
Nao looked confused, and responded with, "The city of Novar? In danger? What do you mean?"
Everyone sort of just looked at each other, unaware of what exactly they should tell her. It was annoying Us, so, deciding it was irrelevant if she knew or not, We Launched into an explanation.
We told her everything that had occurred in Sunvale, the quest we were on, and how we needed to get into Novar and speak with the king. When we finished, she nodded understandingly. "I understand the honor in a paladin's heart, and I would not ask you to abandon your quest without rewarding you."
Ezri's attention was perked again, and she grinned widely, saying "Oh, a reward you say? Please, friend, tell me more."
Nao shot a dirty look at Ezri, before continuing. "I don't care for the jewels, the money, the magical items… All I want is to ask my favor of the king. Everything else you can keep. It's all yours."
We pondered her offer for a moment, before responding with, "No. we are on a quest, and if we abandon it, the safety of Novar could be at risk. My offer is that you come with us, we continue on, and finish the quest we are on. When we're done, we will accompany you to Novar for the games."
Lavender looked relieved, as Nao thought for a second; and then Nao looked sad, and shook her head. "I apologize, but the games begin in the morning. I can't take the risk of missing them entirely to go with you, and I understand your need to follow through on your word."
Maevris walked over and tugged on our cloak, so we looked down at her inquisitively. "Hey Tobi, if we go with her to Novar… We can just tell the guard, or maybe even the king himself about the outpost. They could send a small battalion of men, we wouldn't even have to be involved... Then we can help Nao."
"This is a good point, short flesh… Okay. As long as you give Us your word. that we will report the ongoing outpost situation to the appropriate authorities, then we will accompany you."
Ezri pumped an elbow and said, "Yes!!!" as Maevris smiled, and Lavender looked genuinely annoyed. Nao, on the other hand, had begun to full-on cry. "Thank you so much, you are quite the righteous and valiant vanguard indeed."
"Hmm… Valiant Vanguard. We should write that down for later…" We thought to ourself, before beginning to walk to the cart. "Okay. Let's go, then. We will assume authority over the beast this time… We want to hang out with him."
Everyone kind of chuckled, and piled into the carriage, as the group took off on a new adventure… To bring balance to good and evil.
