09 - Chapter Nine - Jett Amato's Point Of View.

A drop of water hit my face, making me wipe it away. Abruptly, tons of droplets of water hit me and I opened my eyes, confused. I was outside; I fell asleep under the stars on the deck and it was raining now. It was pouring, and I was just sitting here on the deck. I still didn't move even as I was completely soaked. It was just before sunrise. It was getting lighter by the second.

Looking out the bars, I spotted Malakai and just two other wolves. The other big one, and the Sheriff. Malakai turned and looked at me. The sheriff took a few steps towards me and Malakai snarled. The fear that I felt when Malakai bit me slammed into my chest and I choked on the breath of air I had taken in.

I should have gone into the house, but I didn't. I laid on the deck under the pouring rain still. The rain felt really nice even as my teeth started to chatter, showing that I was cold. My heart was still thundering away in my chest from the fear I felt because of Malakai. I honestly put too much faith in the surrounding railings.

"You're going to freeze out here, Jett."

"That's fine. I've been here all night."

I opened my eyes; the Sheriff stood there, completely naked.

"No offence, Sheriff, but I prefer you in uniform."

The Sheriff chuckled. The dark grey wolf stayed a few feet away, Malakai standing by him.

"The dark grey wolf is stunning. Very piercing eyes." I muttered to no one in particular, but the Sheriff looked at me.

"Yeah? he does have some piercing eyes."

Looking up at the sheriff again, I laughed, my teeth still chattering.

"I'm jealous that you're not cold."

"It's a wolf thing."

"I figured."

"You really should head in before you get——"

"I'm fine."

"Jett, please, you could get sick."

"Oh well. Also, I want to touch him."

"The grey wolf, you mean?"

"Yeah."

"He will rip your entire arm off."

That seemed to get Malakai's attention. He growled, stepping right in the way of everything.

"You sure he would rip my arm off?"

The grey wolf pulled back his lips, flashing his teeth at me.

"Yeah, pretty sure."

"Seems charming." I snorted.

Malakai finally seemed to have had enough. He walked towards me, his teeth bared and growling. The Sheriff tensed up as Malakai got closer to him. Malakai snapped his teeth at me again. I was fearful of him, my heart was pounding intensely and it was like the breath had been sucked out of my lungs.

Before I could stop myself, I reached out the rails of the deck and punched Malakai right in the end of the nose.

He seemed stunned for a solid moment before he growled at me again.

"Fucking bite me again, Malakai, I fucking dare you. I will beat your ass right here in front of that wolf and the sheriff. Don't forget you are not dead because of me. I fixed you up."

That seemed the get the grey wolves' attention, whose ears perked up and the Sheriff spoke.

"Jett stitched up Malakai after he had a run-in with some human hunters, He stopped the hunters from killing Malakai."

The dark grey wolf got closer, but still not enough that I could pet him.

"Come on. Just a few steps closer." I said, shoving my arm back through the railing. I wanted to touch the grey wolf in the worse way. He took a few more steps closer. He was so close to my fingers, I watched the Sheriff suddenly go tense and Malakai shifted in his human form. Malakai blocked my entire arm from the other wolf.

The other wolf shifted, but I could even see him. Malakai had my arm pinned between himself and the railing, and it was becoming super painful. Tugging it did nothing because Malakai didn't seem to notice. Tears prickled in the corner of my eyes from the pain he was inflicting on my poor arm. He was crushing it.

His bare ass was within the reach of my other arm, so I pinched it. He stepped forward, freeing my arm, and I pulled backwards and scooted on my butt across the deck. At the same time of doing this, I caught the eyes of the other male; they were sharp and cold. Instead of fear that I should have felt, I felt pain. Not just from my arm, from seeing his eyes, something terrible had happened to him. You could see it in his eyes.

It was the Sheriff who stepped in front of me next, blocking my view of the man.

"Stop staring at him. How is your arm?"

"I wasn't starring. Or I wasn't trying to. Fine, it's not broken."

"You were starring.——"

"I wasn't trying to."

Shoving myself around the Sheriff, I spoke.

"I'm sorry I was staring at you, I——You're safe here."

His eyes locked onto mine and I would have been scarred by his cold sharp eyes, but it wasn't the first time I had seen such haunting eyes. There had been a few times I hated to remember but did, That I had helped someone who had seen horrors no one should.

"You, You're related to the old man who lived here?"

I was shocked he spoke to me since he had been standoffish with me from the start.

"Yeah, I'm his grandson."

"Figures. You will do well to remember. I don't like humans."

"I don't blame you," I muttered under my breath.

Looking at the sheriff, I shivered. Remembering that I was soaked and freezing.

"You want some coffee, sheriff?"

"I'll take one. I'm sure he will take one, too."

"Alright."

Heading inside, I made sure the coffee pot was ready to go and flicked it on while I ran upstairs and got changed into something dry and warm. All I had clean was basically sweat pants and sweaters. Which worked for me.

On my way down the stairs, I grabbed towels, one for each of them. When I peeked out the window, Malakai was walking back across the yard from his. He had also brought something in his hand. I didn't bother asking Malakai if he wanted coffee or tea; he was getting coffee, and he was just going to suck it up.

Filling up four mugs, I set them on the counter and the Sheriff came in to help me; he had shorts on now. He grabbed two of the mugs and brought them outside before coming back to grab the other two before I grabbed the cream and sugar. Along with two spoons.

I stayed back in the doorway while everyone, including the man who was the grey wolf, came up and got one too. He added some cream and stirred it before he backed up on the deck and was about to hit a slippery spot when it was wet. Lossing any sense of my own brain, I moved quickly, grabbing him by the forearm and tugging him forward.

Malakai grabbed my arm, ripping it off his. He was using a lot of his strength.

"Malakai stop! That hurts, he was going to fall. Fuck, I'm sorry. Stop!"

Malakai loosened up his hold, but he was glaring at me. The grey wolf looked a little shaken up, but he hadn't fallen. He looked shaken up by the fact I touched him, But not with my completely bare hand, rather I had my hand half-covered with the sweater sleeve.

"Malakai, Let him go. It's fine."

Looking at the grey wolf, I apologized again. Malakai let my arm go and I took two steps back before heading back into the house. Stress and everything must have caught up with me, because tears streamed down my face uncontrollably as I stomped up the stairs. Howls were heard before I heard the dog's bark and the sound of dishes being done.

I figured the Sheriff and the grey wolf were gone now and Malakai was the one doing the dishes. I heard his footsteps coming up the stairs, and I rolled over in the bed. Glaring at him in the bedroom doorway.

"What you did was very dangerous. He could have hurt you real bad."

"So did you."

"I bit you. He would rip off your entire arm. He isn't a fan of humans at all. He has a terrible past with humans."

"Hate to tell you, Malakai. He was nicer than you were."

"Maybe at that point——"

"Malakai, why are you still here? You made it clear the other night when you tried to attack me that we are not friends, remember?"

He flinched when I screamed, But he didn't leave. Instead, he got closer, his eyes far yellower than I had ever seen.

"You needed to understand that I'm not your pet, I'm not a cute little doggy that will play house, Reily and Jace, They are not cute little puppies, they are wolves too, They could rip you to fucking shreds if they wanted to Jett! You really don't seem to understand this!"

He grabbed my hand, peeling the covering off and yelled at me some more.

"They will make this look like a normal paper cut! Do you understand this?"

"Ok," I hissed. I just wanted him to stop yelling at me.

He grabbed me roughly, and he hugged me. His chin rested on the top of my head and he spoke softly this time.

"Humans and wolves are just not a safe combination."
