Chapter 53

Tara

HOPING to find the composure I wish I had, I went upstairs to our room. I heard the three other Alphas in the kitchen but chose to ignore them. I stopped when I was at the base of the stairway. I took a deep breath and leaned on the wall. The feeling I had inside was foreign and I wanted it to badly just go away.

I closed my eyes and placed my hand over my chest. The soft fur that rubbed on my foot made me open my eyes. Arrow was looking up at me expectantly. I sighed and lifted him to my arms, rubbing my cheeks on his soft hair.

The sound of light knocks made me turn to the door. Frowning, I walked over to it. I tried to sense who it was but I was too disturbed to have my senses working straight.

I opened the door and was surprised to see Irene there. She wore a somber look that I have seen on her face far too many times. This woman has been so much in her lifetime, I wonder how she was still able to face the day.
