Alone In A Post-Apocalyptic World

"What would you do if you woke up in a world that no longer works the same way you remember?" That is the question I asked myself when I woke up in the middle of the road with my surroundings turned into an abandoned and ruined city. What is worse, I seem to have no idea who I am and my memories are in jumbled which might be what you call amnesia. This diary is the mark of my journey in this post-apocalyptic world as I try to find the clues of what happened and to find out my lost identity.

Entry #2

DAY 1, XX-XX-XXXX

The situation is not good and this calls for a tactical retreat. Without looking back, I run without hesitation to where I came from and escaped. I plan to get out of the mall but I didn't expect that there is another of that same creature near the entrance and from the looks of what the second zombie is doing, it aimlessly found its way to the entrance and it is a bad timing for me who is about to escape. Due to this, I have to return to my way where the second zombie is currently.

The second zombie noticed me and it started running towards me. The first also chased me so I have no choice but to choose another passage. These monsters are runners and from the looks of it, they will easily catch up to me. As soon as the first one almost cornered me, it leaps forward towards my direction and tried to lunge me down. With a lucky reflex, I crouch down causing the lunging monster to miss and hit the second chasing zombie. I quickly stood up and started running once again, straight to the second floor. One thing for sure, I needed a weapon and if I want to escape this predicament, it is either I escape or I fight and kill this monster.

The zombies have recovered once more and they resumed their chase towards me. I made a significant distance from them but they easily managed to close the gap from me and them very fast. If not for the shelves I used to block the way of the zombies, they might have already caught up to me. This was obviously a big mistake for me coming in here, the hunger in my stomach disappeared due to the fear and I am not sure whether I am good enough to eat a meal after this, if I survive ever survive this, that is.

The elevators don't work and the escalators are not running so I have no problem running on it towards the second floor. The good thing so far is that there are only two of these zombies chasing. If it was more than one, I am quite sure I would no longer survive this chase.

The second floor has a variety of items like clothes, bags, shoes, appliances, toys and other stuff but those are not that useful against them unless we are talking about appliances. The problem is my frail body. I am not a masculine guy so lifting a huge television is not a good thing and other appliances are just heavy for me to lift on my own.

The two zombies are catching up and keeps on snarling at me. I look around hastily and decided to run to the kitchen wares where it was located near the appliances area. There might not be useful items in the appliances area but there should be a good enough items available on the kitchenwares area that I might be able to use to against the monsters. I am not sure where I can exit here and getting a weapon before escaping might increase my survival chances.

As soon as I reach the kitchenware area, I noticed that the shelves are also missing a lot of items too, frying pans, pots and some other stuff. But there are cleavers still on the shelves and a bit of some knives. I grab one of the cleavers on the shelves and rip off the packaging of it and started to run around some more.

Call me a coward, I am not a fighter and fighting the zombies are not something ideal for me. I am not even sure I will be able to kill one in a one on one fight. Only one thing to do is run. Fight only if you are stuck between life and death.

Running around the place, I noticed that all the blockades I throw at them caused a lot of trouble with them catching up. Due to this, I managed to outrun them but that doesn't mean I have to keep my guard down, I run away once again and started to look for an escape route. Luckily, there is an emergency exit not too far from my location.

I dashed forward and didn't bother to look for any supplies, I have to escape.

...

I have managed to get away and sighed in relief after I made sure that they are no longer following. That is crazy. I just woke up from this kind of environment and I have to experience that? It was insane and I don't want that to happen. Due to the adrenaline rush, I forgot to eat any food. My hunger disappeared after the intense chase. I don't even have the appetite to eat the canned food in my pocket. The whole thing that I have experienced today made me ask this to myself, "What would I do if I woke up in a world that no longer works the same way as I remember?"

Now I am quite sure of it, the world I woke up into is now a dog eat dog world. I am quite sure, this is a post-apocalyptic world. I may have amnesia but a few parts of my memory is clear and the definition The zombies are the proof of that and the city is in ruins so it is either a fallout or a virus thingie that destroyed this place. I am not even sure if the whole world is affected.

The sun is about to set but I am not sure whether I can even have a peaceful night this time around. After seeing the zombies, I am quite sure, I am not going to rest tonight by sleeping. Due to the whole situation, I think I need to plan out my every action and one of the needed situations I want to do is to find a weapon, presumably, a gun. This cleaver will work but I am not a proficient melee fighter, I don't even know if I ever have experience in using melee weapons like knife and cleaver but I doubt it especially since I am more like a college student.

One of the things I quickly secured is a temporary base. The smaller and spacious it was, the better. Good thing there is a small building that seemed to be as a place where the cars are being repaired, a repair shop I presume. There is still a car and some tools on the ground, also, there are shutters for me to close the building, allowing me to stop any intruders like the zombies. My first day in the post-apocalyptic world has finally ended. I just wished everything of this was just a dream... a mere dream, as I drifted to sleep.
