Against the World: The last Monapart

No one with the name Monapart could ever use magic. But no Monapart ever cared about it. They were always the strongest of them all. Each one stronger than the last. The world couldn't accept their existence. When the strongest Monapart died, they swore to never let another one get stronger again. Every human, beast, and demon would be killed at the mere mention of the name... But time passes, and soon, they forgot. "Curses...Curses... The fucking curses! They were the rage, the fear, and the embodiment of someone's will, so why?! Why all of them are made to kill everything?!" Said the first Monapart. But the curse in front of him didn't answer, it just stared at him smiling like always. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- When he was born, he didn't cry, nor made any kind of sound in the process, but no one cared for him enough to notice. After just two days of life, he opened his eyes. An unusual thing as babies usually need at least a month to do so. His green eyes moved wildly looking at every corner of his room with deep curiosity, but not understanding anything in his view. He still couldn't understand the concept of 'thing' yet, but that changed after one month of life. After one month, he understood he was alive and most of the things in the room weren't. He still couldn't put it in words but he clearly knew that he was way different than the chair next to him. The speed of his understanding was outstanding. Sadly, in his sixth month of life, while he was asleep, flames covered his entire room and himself. It didn't take even a second and all the room turned into ashes. The baby didn't die as expected, but he was no longer in the dark room. [ Curse received: Heart offering ] . . Alexander didn't have time to read. He easily climbed the wall and ran towards Evan. By the time he reached Evan, he was barely surviving the reapers beatdown.

Alexander arrived using shadow steps and swiftly decapitated one reaper.

Evan and Alexander stared at each other and smiled.

"Don't you ever throw me off a cliff again. You hear me?"

"Loud and clear"

Stronger than ever, they fought together and in three minutes they destroyed another reaper. They almost destroyed another one when the curse took effect again.

Now Alexander couldn't hear or see anything. He could still feel the wind and the grass but he wasn't used to fighting while blind and deaf so he would be more of a burden than anything no matter how high his status are.

Thanks to the improved status he could feel the vibrations on the ground and kinda know where everyone was. But he needed a lot of time to practice to be able to use it in a fight, which he didn't have.

A few seconds passed and he couldn't help but grow anxious. There were still two reapers alive and he couldn't just attack since he might hit Evan.

The vibrations were strong and they only grew stronger as time passed.

'I shouldn't be too worried, Evan can take them' I didn't know how but I was sure he could do it.

Alexander was tired, he had been fighting for too long and he almost died too many times. He fell to the ground and waited there.

He never realized how much he used this sense until he lost it. The smell of grass, dirt, and blood all disappeared and he felt such a loss for not using it as much as he could.

Even though he couldn't see or hear, the system still delivered its messages through his imagination and intentions.

As he had nothing better to do, he counted how much time he had left until the next activation.

'They say that when it's too quiet, you can hear the silence. But it seems that doesn't apply to my situation'

The only thing left of him now was his thoughts and memories. He remembered a lot of stuff he forgot. Some memories were fuzzy, some were sad, and some were really happy.

'I've had fun... But I kinda wanna play chess again. Evan is probably very mad right now. I should apologize later'

Alexander didn't know how much time passed. He couldn't have the concept of time without any senses. But it didn't matter since he was gonna die anyway.

After a while, he got bored and started building stuff with his imagination. The darkness slowly turned into dirt, trees, houses, caves, animals, monsters, people... He built anything he could imagine.

He knew it would disappear once he died but he was bored so who cares. But suddenly, he heard the sound of wind and leaves, then he could feel the smell of water, then he could feel the taste of blood in his mouth.

His sense of touch came back and he was filled with hope. But it didn't last long as when he opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was Evan, he was really close.

"Finally! did you know you talk while sleeping, you little bastard?"

"Evan?! What..."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alexander suddenly stopped attacking and Evan assumed his curse activated again.

Only two reapers were still alive, he could do it alone. The reapers attacked him at the same time, not bothering Alexander since they could tell he couldn't move anymore and didn't feel any pressure from him.

The reapers used a series of coordinated attacks and Evan dodged them all.

Using his mastery over his footwork he changed to assault steps from shadow steps like changing clothes. He attacked and dodged perfectly.

But even Evan has limits. He repeated the steps more than hundreds of times in such a short amount of time his brain would melt if he continued.

By the time Evan couldn't use his footwork anymore, one of the reapers had almost all its bones broken, and the other couldn't summon its scythe anymore.

The moment that reaper couldn't summon its scythe anymore, it escaped into the woods to recover.

Evan stared at the running reaper with rage. But he couldn't chase after it. Then, Evan felt the power of Alexander's curse raising.

Alexander lost his last sense and Evan saw how his body stopped breathing simply because it didn't know how to do it anymore. It wasn't too much of a problem since he was using his breathing technique

The problem started when the curse got more and more powerful trying to consume Alexander's soul. His black hair and green eyes turned white as the curse drained the life out of them.

Evan became restless and needed to end the fight as fast as possible or he wouldn't be able to save Alexander.

"It's a pity to use it on such a weak enemy but I don't have time anymore"

Evan put a hand on his arm and activated his Monapart's curse third evolution. Instantly, he felt so much pain he could barely stay conscious. His soul was torn in half by the curse.

His soul power was leaking crazily and he wanted to puke from the sheer mental drain.

Then, he raised his right arm and pointed at the still-alive reaper.

"Die"

Time stopped. Everything froze like statues including Evan. Then a black fog left Evan's frozen body. The curse slowly approached the reaper surrounding it.

The black fog looked like the incarnation of evil itself, and even the strongest might die just from looking at it.

After it was done, it returned at the same speed to Evan's right arm.

The time unfrozen, the reaper turned into smoke and the smoke turned into nothing. It was erased from existence like it never existed.

Half of Evan's soul disappeared and he directly felt the crushing pain of losing half of his soul. His second curse evolution deactivated and the tattoos all returned to one spot on his arm.

He started puking blood, and all the unhealed wounds opened. After some time, he looked at Alexander whose body turned cold on the floor.

He slowly walked towards him with the little strength he had left. But When he was half the way he felt danger and sidestepped as quickly as he could while turning back.

The last reaper who couldn't summon its scythe anymore sneaked up on him and pierced the left side of his stomach. But Evan didn't despair nor yelled at it, he just smiled.

"Got you, sneaky fucker"

Evan contracted his muscles trapping the reaper's arm. With only one hand, he grabbed the reaper's skull while looking directly into its eyes.

The reaper stared at Evan's eyes and couldn't help but shiver. It could see inside Evan's eyes tangible power and will making it shiver in fear.

With only the strength of his grip, Evan crushed it to dust... The last reaper finally died but his injuries wouldn't close anymore.

He could barely walk in a straight line while trying to reach Alexander. His head was spinning and his blood was making puddles every time he fell.

Before he reached Alexander, he fainted... But he woke up five seconds after by using the pain from his torn soul. Using his trembling arm, he pushed his body into standing up.

With his legs shaking, he reached Alexander's body and checked his pulse. Fortunately, he would still survive for a few seconds.

Evan used his soul to control the Monapart curse and forcibly removed it from his body and infused it into Alexander's left arm. Then, he lost his strength completely.

Transmitting his intentions to Alexander's curse with what was left of his soul power, he fell on top of him as the sword moved.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Evan?! What..."

Alexander's face turned ugly. He was holding his sword which was currently piercing Evan's chest. He tried with all his strength to move the sword but he wasn't strong enough.

"You little bastard almost died before me... That's unacceptable" Evan started talking with blood inside his mouth.

"STOP TALKING! Let me remove the sword! You can still heal, right? Your chest was pierced before. J-Just get up and we can..."

Alexander's face and words told two entirely different things. He was already balling his eyes out because in his head he already understood. His curse stopped for a reason and Evan was the only possible answer.

"Such a crybaby... You can't cry that easily from now on okay?"

Alexander didn't listen to him as his face became covered with tears and his nose became red.

*Sigh* " Try not to miss me too much... Farewell little brother, I will leave everything to you" He said smiling.

Alexander wanted to say so many things but he couldn't. His throat was stuck as if he was being choked from the inside.

Evan's body started turning into dust from his legs to his head and right before Alexander's eyes, Evan disappeared with a bright slime on his face...

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!"

Alexander screamed while his heart was being destroyed by his own feelings.

This will be forever one of my favorite chapters. Evan was the character I liked the most from everything I wrote. I was really sad the day he died and I don't know if I made his death justice. I will never forget him...
