Chapter 6 : A Dangerous Alliance
Maya woke up to the sound of a struggle coming from the other side of the building. She quickly got up and equipped her machete, her heart pounding in her chest. As she approached the source of the commotion, she saw Miguel and Marcus fighting off a group of bandits who had broken into the building.
"Maya, get behind us!" Marcus yelled as he swung his bat at one of the bandits.
Maya nodded and took a step back, watching as the three of them worked together to take down the intruders. Miguel was quick with his knives, darting around the bandits and taking them out one by one. Marcus's bat swung through the air with deadly force, sending the bandits flying.
As the last of the bandits fell to the ground, Maya breathed a sigh of relief. "What the hell were they after?" she asked, looking around for any clues.
"They were trying to take our supplies," Miguel said, wiping his knives clean on one of the bandit's shirts.
"Well, they're not going to get them," Marcus said, holding his bat at the ready.
Maya knew that they couldn't let their guard down for a second in this new world. They were lucky to have found each other and formed a makeshift family, but they also knew that they needed to be careful about who they trusted.
As they gathered their things and prepared to move on, Maya noticed something strange about the bandits' weapons. "These are military-grade weapons," she said, holding up a rifle.
"That doesn't make sense," Marcus said, frowning. "Why would the military be involved in this?"
"I don't know, but we need to find out," Maya said, her mind racing with possibilities.
The three of them set out on a mission to gather information about what was going on in the world outside of their little group. They traveled to nearby settlements, trading goods and talking to other survivors. They heard rumors of a dangerous group of soldiers who were hoarding supplies and killing anyone who got in their way.
One day, they stumbled upon a group of survivors who were being held captive by the soldiers. Maya and the others knew that they couldn't just leave them there, so they hatched a plan to rescue them.
They waited until nightfall and snuck into the soldiers' camp, taking out guards as they went. They finally reached the area where the prisoners were being held, but they were too late. The soldiers had already executed them.
Maya felt a rage burning inside her as she realized the true nature of the soldiers. They were nothing more than murderers, using their power and weapons to take what they wanted and kill anyone who got in their way.
But Maya also knew that they needed to be smart about how they dealt with this threat. They couldn't just charge in and fight them head-on. They needed a plan, and they needed allies.
As they made their way back to their own camp, Maya felt a new sense of determination. She knew that they had to do whatever it took to survive in this new world, even if it meant forming a dangerous alliance with others who shared their goals.
