Calm-Faced Scarlett

Allen for a while wondered what the meaning of her reply is. ' Does she already know that I'm a vampire? I doubt it because it's impossible for her to, maybe she is just talking ' After concluding, he shrugged his shoulders and then cleaned the blood stain on his hand.

"Let's move on," he said and held her hand as they both went further into the forest. After walking for a while, he halted as he caught the sound of animals nearby. "Shhh, don't alert them," he whispered to Scarlett who nodded and held her lips with her fingers.

The two of them walked slowly until they arrived at the spot where a horde of silver monkeys was standing.

Allen having received his new task quickly counted the number of monsters there and they were a total of ten monsters — six small ones and four large ones altogether.

"Scarlett, you have to find somewhere and hide because dealing with them will take me some time," he said to Scarlett.

"I'll go hide behind that tree, be careful," she replied to him and then headed to the big tree that was some distance away from them. Now that she was out of sight, he could use his abilities without her knowing, and even if she sees him, she won't be able to understand because she was still a little girl of about six years.

The monsters heard the rustling of dry leaves and when they turned to the direction of the noise, they saw Scarlett running to hide. They thought they had seen free food and began to run in her direction but before the first one could make another step, a kick came landing on its head and it was sent flying away to a tree.

"Free lunch, huh?" He asked with a sinister smile on his face. All the monsters halted and stood some distance away from him, none of them knew that there were two humans in the forest and thus were taken by surprise. "I don't have all the time to waste with you guys," he said to them and rushed at them with his claws now longer than it was supposed to.

He first grabbed the large silver monkey by the tail as it tried to run away and slammed it hard on the ground, the monster squealed and tried to struggle its way out of his hold but he pressed it down more and drove his claws deep into its skin, crushing the monster immediately.

"So, who's gonna be next?" He stood up and asked the other monsters who after seeing how easily their comrade died, raged and began to come at him, all at once. "This is how you all want it? It's fine by me," he snickered and rushed forward, landing a heavy kick on the nearest monster, causing it to fly and hit a nearby tree. Two monsters came together to attack him together but he quickly grabbed one by the tail and swirled after which he slammed it against the other monster. The two fell to the ground and tried to get back up but he didn't give them that chance as he stomped their heads, crushing them and causing blood to splatter around.

' I knew the reward will be this poor ' Allen thought at the system with a slight frown on his face.

He stood in the center with the dead bodies of the monsters lying around him, dealing with them was quite easy for him thanks to his vampiric abilities and stats.

"You can come out now," he called to Scarlett who came out of her hiding and walked toward him with her eyes on the dead monsters. Allen gazed at her calm face and he couldn't help but feel fascinated by her calm composure, she wasn't behaving like the typical ten years old kid he knows. "Shall we go home now?" He asked her and she nodded. "Alright, let us go," he said and held her hand as they headed for the village but before finally leaving the forest, he caught some bush meats to prepare for dinner.

Once they got home, Scarlett went back to her room to take her night bath while he went straight to the kitchen to prepare dinner. It was approaching evening and so he had to prepare the food fast so that when his new parents come back from work, they would just have their dinner and go to bed. Thankfully, he knew how to cook just perfectly because, in his previous world, his mother taught him how to cook at the mere age of five. No matter how much he hated the kitchen back then, his mother would beat him and force him to sleep inside the kitchen as punishment or starve him food for days. Because of malnutrition, he stopped growing like other kids, leading him to have stunted growth. The punishment continued until he gave him and began to learn how to cook — he would have a small amount of food as a reward for cooking any meal. That was it until he grew up and became an expert in making different meals for the family, still...he wasn't liked by his parents. Everything he did was to gain his parent's love and attention but the more perfect he was becoming, the more their hatred for him increased.

"Big brother Allen," Scarlett called as she entered the kitchen. Seeing how lost in thought Allen was, a worried look appeared on her face because she could tell that he wasn't happy. She walked to him and pulled him on the sleeve. "Big brother Allen, what is the matter?" She asked him worriedly.

"Sorry, I was just lost in thought," he replied and tried to force out a smile. "How about you sit down here and let's have a chat while I cook?" He asked and carried her up then sat her down on the kitchen table.

"What does big brother Allen want to know?" Scarlett asked him.

Allen smiled, he was glad that she was beginning to loosen up with him. "So... how about you tell me about your other big brother? I'd love to know all about him," he requested.
