Lotte Society

The group sat in the basement after their assessments and waited for Amaya to finish writing. Nicole was finally waking back up after recovering some of her energy from healing Jakub. She finally learned she was able to heal a potentially mortal wound. Jakub learned he can drain someone of their mana and make it his own, while also amplifying it. Emily found out she can use the perfected versions of whatever soul ability she's captured so far.

Amaya finished her notes and handed them to her father. She asked why everyone wanted to reach their peak potential for their souls. They all looked around at one another and nodded. They informed Dr.Reinheart and Amaya that they wanted to avenge the death of Nicole's father. Telling them that they were after people known as reapers and the gang Reign. Amaya also asked if they had any prior combat experience or any martial art experience. They all shook their head no except for Light. Light informed them that she had been well trained by a friend of her parents as she grew up.

"This city isn't a good place at all. There are gangs and mobs all over. The underground is a terrifying place in itself. You see the news about disappearances and murders. The nicest part of this city is around the university. That's only because it has pretty high security and you'd have to be one tough customer to get past them. Probably the only guards to not be paid off by mobs or gangs around town. By the underground, I don't mean figuratively. There is an entire city underneath us called the Black District. A place for all your shady dealings and interactions." Amaya informed them all.

They had not once heard anything about the Black District. Amaya told them nobody is told the way in unless they want you in. Everyone questioned who Amaya was talking about. "The Mortem Family or The Mortem Mafia whichever you want to call them. They oversee the Black and no one else." Emily and Jakub stared at one another, they knew they had to get in contact with Elena as soon as possible to talk to her about this.

Amaya went on to tell them that she would be willing to train them in hand to hand combat if they would like or she could help them get soul conductors. Now if you remember soul conductors were mentioned in this world a little bit earlier. They're items or weapons used to strengthen the flow of your mana. Making your soul power much more willing to work with you. Jakub chose to do both; he'd like to learn how to truly fight and also wanted a weapon. Emily wanted a conductor that would constantly be in touch with her. She wanted a necklace made with tourmaline as the jewel to reflect the rainbow. Nicole also chose to only have a conductor, she asked for a ring she could wear on her middle finger. Light opted to join Jakub in hand to hand training just so she could stay fresh. Light then requested cybernetic knuckles as her conductor. Cybernetic weapons in this world were meant to be almost transmitted out of thin air to the user. All they required was a conduit which here was typically a soul conductor. She asked for two pinky ring conduits for them.

Now that they settled who would do what and what they wanted. Amaya walked away to make a phone call to a contact she had for conductors and put in requests, she told the contact to not worry about the cost.

Dr.Reinheart still sat with the others and informed them that Amaya used to be part of the LIA. The LIA or the Lotte Intelligence Agency was an agency known for getting involved in things that they shouldn't be in. Stealing information from countries and trying to get Lotte ahead of everyone. Including other cities in the United States. It's best to mention Lotte was a city established on the basis of going further and progressing fast. It was meant to be the future city of the United States but soon tried to claim its independence. Soul discovery was information gathered and stolen from other countries, even other cities within the United States. The LIA led Lotte into the future and became the first to instill soul mana and the soul chart in their city. Dark matter was no longer unknown and was soon to be acknowledged as full fledged mana or magic as some people eventually called it.

The LIA came under scrutiny from the people of Lotte for the tests they had been doing and were later abolished by City leaders. Some agents were arrested for crimes against Lotte such as attempting to sell information and some even assassinated. Amaya went into hiding and worked for her father after this happened which led to the meeting happening now. Dr.Reinheart told them that Lotte cut itself off from everywhere outside and self proclaimed its independence.

"The chief of the LIA after it was abolished, became the head of the Mortem Mafia. The leaders of the Black District know all of this city's secrets and control basically this entire city." Amaya came back into the room after she finished her call. "They call him the possessed, I'm not sure why."

The concerns Emily and Jakub had grew more intensely. They knew that the possession had to have been caused by a reaper, meaning that this world and city got so twisted by the reapers. It meant that the reapers caused the discovery of the soul mana for their own purposes. Everything they thought was going on is actually what was happening. "We have to talk to Elena now…" Emily whispered to Jakub.

The knowledge they took in for Lotte and some of this world in such a short time was so vast. They couldn't believe what they were hearing. Jakub and Emily told everyone they needed to make a call really fast and walked outside. They began calling Elena's name in their head and then Jakub yelled for her out loud.

Elena spoke connected to their minds once again as she did Emily's before. "Yes?"

"Finally! So much has happened in the last few days." Emily replied.

Emily told Elena about what caused this world to spiral out of control. She informed her that her dad was behind humans discovering mana and using it to build strength in their souls.

"We killed a reaper named Christian Tress. He was luring students from the university to his labs and stealing their souls. He made reports to your father about everything he was doing." Emily and Jakub told her.

"So my father is stealing the souls of humans like I believed. But I had no idea he was responsible for the advances that caused the mana." Elena replied.

"One of his reapers ran an agency here that after it's downfall it became known as the Mortem Mafia, named after your family and everything." Jakub told her.

"They clearly are in support of him using a name like that. I need you two to look into it for me." Said Elena.

"We will." They both replied.

"Thank you. I have a meeting with the council soon. I have to go." Elena told them as her voice faded away.

The two walked back inside, everyone was staring at them.

"You two didn't have to leave the room to confess to each other." Nicole said grinning and Light started laughing.

"Yeah not happening." Emily replied.

"Damn it's like that?" Jakub said to Emily.

"It's gonna take more than a few days to win me over. Fighting with me or not." She replied.

"Yeah yeah."

The group continued to converse about the training and conductors. Amaya swung her hands downward and daggers slid into her hands. "These are my conductors, cybernetic daggers transmitted through my bracelet and watch. Watch the difference in power between when I put out the flames earlier and with these."

A watery aura flowed around the daggers. The air felt heavy as they could all feel the mana flowing in the air. Amaya jumped and began to spin then kick through the air. An explosion of water flew from her leg launching forward toward the wall completely obliterating the wall. Dr.Reinheart turned and stared at her. "Are you kidding me? You couldn't hold back at all? I've had to fix these walls so many times because you're showing off."

Amaya giggled, rubbing her head. "I'm sorry dad."

"This is just an example of how much stronger a conductor can make your abilities. I've had these conductors for years ever since I was scouted for the agency. I was only fourteen when they began scouting me and provided me with the daggers. They wanted me to be a silencer for the agency. Anyone who opposed them I took care of. They were sure to be after me once they went down which is why I went into hiding."

The group sat in awe as Amaya turned to look at them. They were shocked by the strength of her and her past.

"How old are you?" Jakub asked.

"I'm twenty one." She replied.

"WHAT!?" They all shouted.

"You've been killing people since you were how old?" Emily asked.

"Sixteen" she replied.

They all sat quietly thinking about what it meant to just know killing and this is what's going to be taught to them. She is a genuine assassin and is going to teach them her knowledge.

"I am super in for learning from you!" Jakub yelled.
