Emily’s Hard Second Life

A blinding white light flashed before Emily forcing her to close her eyes. All she could feel was the cool sensation of the wind blowing along her face. The air was cool as if it was mid autumn weather. "Not too cold, not too warm. This temperature is perfect." She took a deep breath through her nose getting a smell of the fresh air and she finally opened her eyes.

"I take it that this is Lotte City."

Emily took a look around her realizing that she was on a high rise. She walked to the side of the building to have a look around below. Emily had no idea what she was looking at. There were humans just a little bit lower than the roof flying around and looking further she could see streaks of light that looked like people running.

"What the hell is going on here. I feel like I was dropped into some super hero comic."

Looking around the buildings were all designed differently than in her past life and the only thing that seemed relatively familiar was the park that used to be in the center of Lotte. Black metal skyscrapers with crystal clear windows and a giant spiral tower that shined like a diamond stuck out the most. Realizing which side of the park she was standing on she thought that the building she is on top of may be the University.

"There's no way that this building is the Uni right? It's insanely huge now if it is. What's the point I'm a school being this big?"

Emily turned to the side and noticed that the rest of the campus was still down below and that this was definitely the main building. She thought that it had grown so massive in the years that this world was ahead by or that maybe it was never small in this place to begin with.

In amazement with how far ahead people had come in the years Emily stood spinning around looking at the giant billboards on buildings. She watched as hovering cars passed by the side of the school. The world she had been sent to looked like something straight out of a futuristic sci-fi movie. The excitement built up in her from utter curiosity to find out how people had powers here and if she had any.

Full of energy she burst through the door on the roof and looked for an elevator or even stairs. She was in such a hurry to find someone that looked friendly enough to talk to. "Boom! End of the hall there's the stairs sign."

Whoosh!

The door opened in front of her before she could grab the handle and she ran right into the young lady that happened to be coming out. Both of them fell to the ground in pain.

Emily wondered why her Grim didn't appear to stop that.

"Ow ow ow ow. I'm so sorry are you okay?" Emily said to the young lady.

"Yeah I'm okay, I just hit my elbow on the door." The young lady replied.

A green light started glowing from the young lady's hand and the cut on her elbow completely closed. She reached up toward her face and wiped blood away from her nose.

"Woah!" Emily said full of excitement again. "I'm Emily Herth nice to meet you. In such a cliche way at that." She said smiling.

"I'm Nicole Caladrius, it's nice to meet you too."

Excited Emily asked, "What was that you just did? With your elbow."

Nicole looked a little confused, "All I did was heal my cuts with green soul healing type mana. It makes my nose bleed when I use it though, kind of scares me to think what would happen if I used it too much."

Emily was even more confused than when she was just taking in how different this place was.

"You did what with what now?"

"Do you not know what Soul Mana is?" Nicole questioned Emily.

"Uhhh no I have no idea what it is I'm kind of new here." Emily said giggling to avoid the awkwardness of being oblivious to it all.

"Even if you aren't from here the Soul Locator has made itself known around the world by now."

"The soul what?" Emily asked.

Nicole palmed her face sliding her hand down. "You really don't know anything do you? Did you hit your head when we ran into each other?"

"Hehehe uhhh yeah let's go with that one. Help me remember please?"

"Fine, let's go to the roof. It's where I like to hang out and read so I guess we can go up there to talk."

Emily sighed and thought that she had just run down from that roof. Had she waited up there for a few more minutes maybe they would've just talked up there from the start.

The two of them made their way outside to the roof and sat along the side that was fenced off. Emily looked around the city in amazement again, she could not believe everything around her.

"So tell me what this Soul Locator is and what Soul Mana is." Emily said eagerly.

"To start, humans have questioned what the soul was for eternity and nobody had ever been able to explain it. Was the soul something of ours that split from us to go to the afterlife-"

"Kind of actually…" Emily mumbled.

"What?" Nicole asked.

"What? Oh nothing, continue please."

"Okay… like I was saying they wondered if it split to go to the afterlife or if it was what made up our personality, what made us unique. They were not far off because it is what makes us extremely unique."

Nicole continued on to inform Emily that the Soul was discovered to be dark matter inside of a human's body. This only became known to scientists when dark matter became fully replicated after years of testing. Scientists figured out that dark matter had been inside of humans forever but could never be seen until they made the Soul Locator. A device that is intended to activate the dark matter that lived inside of all people. Tests were brutal in the beginning killing bugs and animals. The government took the Locator into hiding and began testing unwilling subjects, humans.

The testing on humans went well at first, souls would become active giving humans unnatural powers that never existed. In exchange for their temporary power the people would die within thirty days as the power was overwhelming.

"About fifty years ago the science behind the Locator was perfected and it was eventually made into an injection sized machine that can tell you your soul type."

Emily stared at Nicole in shock that something like this happened and even exists.

"That's the craziest thing I've ever heard."

"But all of it is true in fact if you're unsure of your type you can go to the infirmary and the nurse can check for you."

"Awesome let's go!" Emily shouted.

She took off running toward the door and looked back at Nicole. She watched as the wind blew her auburn hair around and the sun shined off her big brown eyes. Her skin was fair but in the sunlight it shined so beautifully to Emily.

Emily began blushing, "you gonna come with me?"

Nicole shrugged her shoulders, "sure why not."

The two of them made their way to see the nurse. Rushing through the halls and down stairs Emily was pulling around Nicole when she realized she had no idea where she was going.

"Here follow me I can tell you're lost." Nicole said.

They walked into the Infirmary and the first thing that caught Emily's eye was a board on the wall that read Soul Types across the top. Underneath the was a list of different types. Red, dangerous type, very rare, can possibly cause more harm than good. Orange, reinforcement type, uncommon, ability to reinforce body or objects in different ways.

Yellow, support type, common, provides various types of situational support depending on the user. Green, healer type, common, the ability to heal various things in various ways. Blue, very rare, elemental type, can use an element to their advantage depending on the user. Indigo, rare, alteration type, cause their body to be altered in different ways depending on the user. Also alteration is permanent after Soul Located. Violet, common, no type, nothing changes.

Emily read it over and agreed to do it. She then noticed in small text two more types underneath written small. Black, unknown, unknown type, unknown. White, with the exact same writing that was next to black. She thought that it was weird that there were still two unknown.

"Hey so we're here because I want to get the Soul Locator used on me. But I also am curious about those two." Emily said.

The nurse responded, "no need to be curious they've never been discovered and probably never will. People claim to have seen them but no one had proof."

"Oh okay"

Emily sat on one of the patient beds and the nurse walked over with a mechanical needle in her hand. "Here we go." The nurse stuck the needle in and it sent a shockwave through Emily.

"Black" the needle read aloud.

They all looked at each other in shock.

"Do it again please," said Emily.

"Black."

"Is that thing always accurate?" Emily asked the nurse scared.

Nicole sat in the corner covering her mouth scared because nobody has seen a black soul type before.

"Yes, it is confirmed to be one hundred percent correct. We could do it a third time if you would like, but it will come out the same." The nurse replied.

Emily sighed, "So what do I do from here?"

"You go about your life until you figure out what the power you have is. That's all there is to it, I'm sorry. My name is Patricia Light, you can call me Nurse Light. If you ever need to know anything or more information please feel free to contact me, here's my card."

Emily thanked Nurse Light for all her help and Nicole got up to walk with Emily. They walked out of the office and shut the door behind them.

"Why did I have to be the one to get an unknown. Nothing ever has gone right for me. I just hoped everything would be different." Emily said annoyed.

"It will be okay, what if it happens to be something amazing?"
