Emily’s Hard Second Life Pt.2

Emily and Nicole sat outside the main building silent for about ten minutes. They sat wondering what exactly it meant to have a black soul and if it actually was a bad thing.

"Hey!"

"Maybe it's not such a bad thing. For all we know it could be some insanely cool thing. Also, I never bothered to ask, what field are you studying in here?" Nicole spoke to Emily.

Emily, still unsure of how she felt about everything after not getting some soul power, just sat staring at the sky. Wondering if her new life was going to be as bad as her past life. She didn't know what a black soul meant for her and neither did anyone else.

"Huh?" Emily responded

"Oh you mean at the University. Well technically I'm not enrolled here. I want to enroll as soon as possible though and maybe even go into the field of souls if there is one."

Nicole smiled gently at Emily. "I happen to be the daughter of the President of the university. I can probably get you accepted right away and enrolled within a week!"

Nicole stood from the bench they were sitting on and stretched. She turned toward Emily, "come on let's go see him! I'm in the Soul field also, it's called Soulology. It would be super fun to have you here."

Emily agreed to go with her to the office of the president. He didn't have his office in the main building which Emily found it odd that he didn't. They headed toward a building much smaller and on the opposite side of the courtyard where Nicole said that his office was located. The courtyard was beautiful with a cobblestone walkway that stretched from building to building. It came together in the middle of the courtyard where it split into four different directions like an intersection of a road. Flowers and trees spread throughout the grass that was in the corner of the walkway.

"It's such a magnificent view!" Emily excitedly spoke.

Nicole smiled at her.

The two approached the president's building, it was a large red brick building. Although much smaller than the main building it was still pretty big. The two then walked inside where they turned almost immediately to the side toward an office door.

"Here we are." Said Nicole.

Emily took a deep nervous breath. "Alright, let's do this."

They walked into the office where an older man sat behind a desk typing away on a computer.

"Father, I'd like you to meet Emily Herth. Emily, this is my father Viktor Caladrius. Emily here wants to enroll."

"Does she now? Well nice to meet you Emily. What exactly would you like to do here?" Said Viktor.

"Also, something I think you should know is that she is the first and only known black soul." Nicole whispered.

"SHE'S WHAT!?"

Emily awkwardly smiled and asked. "I guess she told you my soul color then?"

Viktor stood from his seat and stated that he thought they should see the head of the soulology division before he makes the call to enroll her. He told them that the head of the division had just gotten back to the main building a little while ago. He told them they should see what he thinks the risks of a black soul being known are and what could happen.

"Really? We just walked over here from there." Nicole said frustratedly.

Viktor sighed and told them that he would call him and have him come over to his office then. So Emily sat down and Nicole walked around the office looking through things.

"Yes. Yes. A few minutes? Okay." Said Viktor while on the phone.

They all sat talking about Emily enrolling and that she wanted to go into soulology. They spiked about the fact that Emily had only just found out about her soul color, but she couldn't tell them why or where she's from. In the middle of their conversation a strong force hit Emily. She looked around to see if anyone else noticed it but they didn't seem to even budge. She could feel an overwhelming force but didn't know what it was. When suddenly a man walked through the door to the office. A tall man with blonde hair. He looked pretty intimidating and he wore a white lab coat. In that moment Emily noticed a faint black figure floating behind him. This man was a reaper and his Grim was right behind him.

Emily knew for sure that this man was a reaper and this could be her first problem here. Her Grim hadn't awakened yet so she figured the man had no idea that she was also a reaper. Emily sat silently not wanting to move or give anything about herself away.

"Christian! I want to introduce you to Emily. She will more than likely be attending our university and she is also the first ever known black soul." Viktor informed the man.

The man's eyes went wide and he turned toward her. "I am Dr.Tress, but as you can tell my colleagues call me Christian. I'm the head of the soulology division here at Lotte University. And it would be a pleasure to be able to understand your abilities some more."

Emily still kind of shaken up from the whole thing finally snapped back to reality. "Uh sure thing. What do you need me to do?"

"Well I have a lab in the main building that I would like you to accompany me to. Nicole can come also if that will make you comfortable."

"That's fine with me I guess. Will you come Nicole?"

Nicole nodded at Emily and then turned to her father. "We're going to go with Dr.Tress. Can you please finish enrolling Emily. She gave you all of her necessary information earlier."

"Of course I will." Viktor agreed.

The three of them left Viktor's office and began walking toward the main building. It was getting late and the sun was starting to set. Emily suddenly felt tingling in her ears and then heard voices. The sounds got clear and she realized it was Elena talking.

"Are you able to hear me Emily? Did you make it there safely?" Elena communicated.

"What?" Emily spoke out loud

Nicole and Dr.Tress looked toward her for a second then continued walking.

"Emily don't speak out loud I can hear your thoughts right now. We can communicate telepathically."

"Oh sorry, Yes I made it and I'm fine right now. But I may have ran into trouble. I'm with some man that is definitely a reaper." Emily's communications were shaky.

"Just calm down, have you learned anything about this world that would interest a being of high power?"

"Yes actually. I learned that human souls are a form of mana here. Abilities are given to people based on the colors of their souls because it determines their ability type. Sadly… they told me mine was black and apparently it means I have no power. Or at least it is unknown. The only thing that makes sense to me now that I've heard about and even seen soul mana used is that your father may be targeting human souls. He may be having reapers gather them somehow for him."

Emily continued walking behind the other two. When she noticed it seemed like the communication was cutting in and out.

"I'm… send… partner… you." Is all Emily could make out of the last thing she heard.

They arrived at the lab where Dr.Tress slammed the door shut behind him and spoke. "What is a reaper with a heart doing here. You shouldn't even exist. No matter… I'll just kill you and the daddy's girl and get this over with. No other reaper should be around here."

Nicole was confused, backing up into the room terrified. Emily didn't know what to do so she reached for the nearest thing to her and Tress teleported next to her and tried to smack her when her Grim appeared. A little shadow gremlin sat on her shoulder and popped an energy field up around her. The blast from the shield forming knocked the Doctor to the ground and Emily grabbed Nicole's hand then ran for the door.

The two of them managed to get out of the room and make it to the elevator. As the door was shutting something came flying between it and slammed into the back wall. Emily turned to look at it, it was a scythe made of bone a smaller one. There was blood dripping from it. But why? Emily thought. She looked to the side and saw Nicole leaning against the wall with a cut going across the side of her stomach. Nicole was already unconscious, the force of it slashing her stomach and trying to evade it knocked her out. Nicole was smaller than Emily so it made it easy for her to carry her once the elevator stopped.

"Why did she pick the roof? Now we have nowhere to go." Emily panicked.

Emily knew that if she did nothing Nicole was going to bleed to death on the roof and she refused to let that happen.

"Come on Emily Come on think! DO SOMETHING!" Emily said to herself.

That's when her hands began glowing green, the same way Nicole's did after they had run into each other. She put her hands above the open wound on Nicole's stomach and it closed. Emily noticed that her nose didn't bleed the way Nicole's had after she healed herself earlier. Emily wondered, why was she able to use the same ability with no effects?

Nicole started to regain consciousness and saw Emily's hands glowing green.

"How are you-"

Emily interrupted, "there's no time to explain, take this, jump off and go get help."

Emily put her hand on Nicole's shoulder and imagined a barrier being formed around her. And that is exactly what happened, Emily's Grim placed a barrier around Nicole. But the one around Emily went away as the Grim appeared sitting on Nicole's shoulder now.

"Just trust me… it should keep you alive no matter what. Jump and go find someone to come here." Emily begged.

Nicole nodded and leaned from the edge and dropped safely to the ground. Emily watched as she did, standing on the edge herself.

The door to the roof flew open.

"Emily!" A man shouted from behind her

Emily turned around to look.

"Beautiful…" the man mumbled just loud enough for her to hear.

"What?" Emily replied as she slipped falling backwards.

Emily felt her wrist being held as the man had caught her before she fell off the roof. He pulled her up and to her surprise it wasn't the doctor. But he was also a reaper. With black smoke floating around his body.

"You're a reaper?" Emily asked.
