Chapter 1 - Regrets

"Chief Edwards, May I go earlier today because my wife is due in the next hours"

"Alright go ahead. I guess this will be your second child, Congratulation Assistant Manager Brain"

"Haha, You jest Chief Edwards I think I can't even handle one now their ones more"

Edward smiled bitterly at Assistant Manager Brain's complaint even though Edward know that Brain was very happy when he found out that he was going to have a second child.

Edward was 25 and currently the CTO of an investment company called ProtoTechnology where customers can go on their app and could invest in stock or let the company handle all of the investment for a 15% fee. (Chief Technology Officer)

"Hah, I guess it has been 3 years"

Edward said with a sigh it has been 3 years since he was hired and he remember back then he was just a newbies intern where he got bullied into buying senior coffees and doing their bitting but looking back at it it wasn't all that bad he gets the chance to get close to his senior and ask question.

In other people's eyes, Edward is a successful man who only at the age of 25 he became the CTO of ProtoTechnology one of the leading investment company on Wallstreet but for Edward to be where he was right now, there was a lot of regrets because at that time his focus was only on his work while neglecting his parent and didn't properly take care of them that lead to a car accident.

On the day his parent die, He was just promoted to Chief Technology Officer and it was supposed to be his happy moment in life but unfortunately, that was also the day his parent die in a car accident. That was the moment where Edward just wish he could turn back time to when he was young and properly take care of his parent even though now he became successful but it was useless if the only people that cared for him left this world.

After that day Edward no longer have the motivation to work and just want to quit his job right away but then he remember that he also has a family to take care of so even though it was painful Edward have to push through just for one more years and now it is the day where Edward will resign from his position.

'Why did it have to be like this'

Edward thought of the day when he was just accepted to the company and when his parent take care of everything including his lunch but at that time Edward was just a brat who didn't even understand his parent's hardship and just accept it like it was the right things. Edward remembers the horrible things he say to his parent and his behavior toward them make him just want to kill that young naive Edward so much just why didn't he realize sooner now there was nothing he could do.

"CEO, Thank you for everything you have done for me. I would not have this position if it wasn't for your guidance and patience with me."

Edward thanks sincerely to the old man who looks to be in his 60s but he still radiance that confidence and enthusiasm just like youth. This man was called Chris Johnson and he was the one who single handily build this huge company to where it is today.

"I guess it's about time for you to leave then, It's unfortunate that a reliable young man like yourself has to resign. It's been a great time for me to work with you too child"

Chris smiles warmly at the now emotional Edward who unlike his usual demeanor of a successful young man who accomplice much great things but with a face full of tears. Chris walks up to Edward and hugs him tidily.

"It's been tough on you, Good Luck child"

"Goodbye Sir"

Edward said with a sigh full of unwillingness but he made up his decision and walk out of the office.

The night in New York was beautiful as Edward walked pass people along the street a whoosh of cold air assault him making Edward wake up from his stupor. As Edward takes in this very beautiful scenery there was an old man bump into Edward.

"Sir, Are you alright" Edward said apolitically to the old man and help him up.

'He reeks of alcohol'

Edward thought this wasn't very strange in New York as even though it is a city for only the wealthy there is also a majority that has a bad financial situation and no place to call home only the street as their temporary.

"Am alright, Thank you young man What would you like in return ?"

Listening to the old man's words made Edward fall in a daze. He was just helping him normally there was no need for the old man to compensate with anything.

"Your face says it all young man, I know you have a lot of regret in this life. What do you say I help you with that regret ?"

The old man said with a knowing smile at Edward who have a look of disbelief.

'Was he that easy to read'

Edward thought about the word of the old man and remember the face of his lovely mother who always pack lunch for him before work and his father who even though he doesn't show it but he really loves Edward a lot and at one time when Edward was young and naive he got in an altercation with a random passerby it was that time where his father intervenes and help him.

"If you can help me with my regret in life, Than am forever grateful to you sir"

"Alright drink this take it as my gift to you"

Edward looks at the bottle of soju that the old man handed him Edward didn't know what to say in this situation so he only just chucks the final amount of soju.

'Ughh, What am already drunk by this little amount ?'

"Young man, Hopefully in your new life you won't have regret like in this life."

The old man smile at the sleeping Edward and just vanish alongside the swoosh of leaves.
