A Mate For The Devil

Selene's POV.

I stared at my reflection, my lips stretched into a smile as the voices from afar filled my ears.

Deep excitement held me strongly, and I couldn't wait to be crowned the alpha of the Moonlight pack, a day I had impatiently waited for on my twenty-first birthday.

"You look so beautiful."

I looked only to find my best friend, Susan, standing at the doorpost.

"I am so excited."

"I know, you couldn't stop talking about this day for months."

I laughed.

Susan is right.

"Being the alpha comes with a lot of responsibilities." Her deep green eyes pierced mine. "Are you ready for such change?'

I sighed.

"You and my parents know I was born to lead."

Susan chuckled. "Yeah, right. And to break Steve's heart too."

At once, I remembered my mate's betrayal and rolled my eyes in disgust.

"He should f**k off."

"Steve?"

"Yes, Steve, that asshole. He broke my heart ever since he mated with that slimy omega, you can't expect me to take him back." I asserted strongly, angry memories flooded my mind.

"It's been months, Selene."

" I don't care."

Susan walked closer, a soft smile not leaving her. "You have to forgive Steve, he loves you."

Surprised, my brows furrowed in a frown.

"I can't believe you would say such. You advised me to cut ties with him when the incident happened, why the sudden change of heart?"

Susan sighed. "I know, but now, I have realized one thing..."

"Which is?"

"Steve is your mate, you can never be given a second mate. You both are alphas and a perfect match…" she nodded firmly. "One thing you should understand is that male wolves always cheat, they can never be loyal to their mates.''

A knock on the door alerted us. I gazed only to find my mother.

"Enough of the chit-chat. The coronation is about to start, we have to leave now."

I swallowed hard. The thought about Steve was nothing but heartache. 

We were childhood lovers, I loved him more than I have ever done for anyone. All I ever wanted was to have a memorable first-time mating but to my shock, I found him in bed with Zayne, a red-haired Omega, a lady he has always detested in front of me. 

They were all pretending. 

Nothing but a fallacy because I soon discovered through Zayne herself that she and Steve had been having sex months prior.

"Selene."

My mother's call woke me back to reality. 

I looked at her with a fake smile. I was happy and also sad at the same time but the last thing I would do is to let Steve's betrayal deprive me of my joy. 

"I overheard you and Susan's discussion. For a moment, Susan is right. I know I shouldn't be revealing this but I can't count how many times your father cheated on me including several kids he has."

I gasped.

"I have siblings?"

"Step siblings."

My mouth became speechless. All these years I have considered my father a different alpha, but I was wrong"

I stopped in the hallway, and so many thoughts ran through my mind. 

"Selene."

Silence. 

"Today is your special day. You are not just a year older but about to be crowned the Alpha by your father. Everyone is waiting downstairs, and you shouldn't let any of this border you. Come on." she shrugged, and with a deep breath, I walked down the stairs. 

Loud music filled my ears as I and my mother walked out of the building. The night was cold but dazzlingly bright as the moon shone highly. 

Different faces stared at me and I walked towards where my father stood waiting patiently. Next to him stood three men I could recognize from the park. I became puzzled at their presence. 

"My daughter." My father, Alpha Zen, spoke with pride. He hugged me, drew me closer, and I stood by his left-hand side. 

"Today, my daughter, Selene will be made Alpha of our mighty park. A day every one of us here has patiently waited for. But before she is crowned…."

He paused, and I narrowed my eyes in confusion. 

"According to our pack, an Alpha must have a mate before crowned, so, between these three men, my daughter will make a choice on whom she wants her mate to be."

I froze in shock.

"Father," I muttered. 

"Father, this can't be real. I do have a mate!' I reminded him, ignoring the crowd who watched us. 

"But you rejected him."

"I know!" My heart began to race. 

"Do you want him instead?" 

"No! Never!"

"You have no other choice but to choose from these fine men." my father noted calmly. 

Beads of sweat formed on my forehead, I could feel the wolf inside of me howl in anger and shock.

"You can't be right, Father." I stammered.

"Selene, you can't be crowned without a mate." 

"But I don't want a mate!" I shrieked in panic, "Make me the alpha, I don't need a mate, father, I don't even know these men"

A deep frown appears on my father's face. 

"Selene!" He growls. 

"No Father! I don't want them!"

"Do not embarrass me in front of my subjects, you better choose one of these men or lose your right as the next Alpha!" 

Suddenly, a dark cloud appears over the moon. The atmosphere suddenly became cold, and I could feel a strange presence. 

I looked at my father only to find fear buried in his eyes, and he stared at a distance. 

"Father, what happening?"

The crowd began to mutter, the candles next to us suddenly went off, and nothing but total darkness surrounded us. 

Suddenly, the candlelight came on, and standing before us was a stunning handsome figure, a man whose presence was so demanding. I felt goosebumps all over my body as he stared at me with the coldest eyes I have ever seen. 

"He is here." My father muttered in fear, and I stared deeply at the stranger. 

"Long time Zen, my bride has grown to be ravishing and beautiful. I am here to take what rightfully belongs to me."
