For Riley, it all began on the train. But for Quinn, it began so much earlier.

The Girl At The Train Station And I

There was only one place he could be! That idiot doesn't know anywhere else in this town! Just stay there, Quinn! Don't you dare get on that train! Riley was running like her life depended on it towards the station while hoping that what she feared wasn't true. She saw the light of the train in the distance as it disappeared and she feared she was already too late, but when she got to the station, she saw him there.

Quinn was standing with his face to the sky, right under the rain. His hands were squeezed into fists and his entire body was vibrating.

Riley touched him and Quinn turned to her sharply. This was the first time Riley would hate the look in those eyes. He looked so defeated.

"You heard?"

Riley nodded.

"Yeah. I guess she would tell you. Well, I guess introductions are in order. My name is Quinn Osaka. The hair to the throne of Osaka. It's a pleasure,"

It wasn't a pleasure. Not with how bitter he sounded.

"Well! Won't you say something!?"

"You should go back,"

Riley knew this was the wrong thing to say the second she said it. Quinn pulled back angrily and shouted at her!

"What the hell do you know about this, huh!? I should go back? Do you even know how much I want to just run away from that place!?"

"Quinn -"

"No! Let me finish! I've always been told what to do! I've always followed orders! But these two days with you have been amazing! I could just live and draw and breathe! It was everything that I wanted! Why do I have to go back and rule over people that I don't even know personally!!!"

Slap!!

Quinn's eyes widened as his head recoiled to the left. Did she just... Slap me? No one has ever slapped me before. Not even my own mother.

"Grow the fuck up, Quinn. What kind of stupid sad sob story are you telling me? Do you think your life is hard!? You think that having something that you are meant to do with yourself is a bad thing!? What kind of idiot! Are! You!?"

Riley was now pushing Quinn back with every word she said. She glared up at him and made sure he looked at her before she continues.

"Don't waste your life, Quinn. Don't let something like this small freedom make you lose sight of your responsibility! Do you think it's a small thing to be a king!?"

Riley couldn't believe how stupid this boy was! He was supposed to be king! Somebody that controlled the whole of Osaka! Osaka is the biggest city in Japan and it is the main hub for all the major finances in this country! Why would he be so selfish! They need him!

Quinn was hurt by everything she said. Not because she was wrong, but because he knew she was right. But he thought that she would be the one person that would tell him different. Didn't she do the same thing? She loves drawing and she did what she loved more than anything else. Why can't he do the same thing!?

Riley grabbed his face and made him look down at her. She had to make sure he understood!

"You can't run from responsibility, Quinn. Not right now. I'm sorry if this isn't what you want to hear, but even if everyone else can run away, you can't. I did what you're about to do now and I regret running away from my family and friends every day. Please, Quinn. Don't do what I did. Don't live with regret,"

Quinn didn't know if the water running down her face were tears or just rain, but her eyes were red and her face was pinched in a pain look. It wasn't a lie that he couldn't run away from this. He knows that there is nothing that he can do about this responsibility that he has. But he just wishes he had more time. He isn't ready yet.

"Do you think I'll do a good job? If I become king, will I do a good job?"

Riley laughed. The boy that can learn how to draw in one day doesn't know how to rule? That will be impossible. With his IQ, if he doesn't know anything, he will learn it faster than anyone else! There is a reason why his father chose him to be the king and she believes he will do good!

So instead of answering, Riley just pushed up and kisses him. Quinn wrapped his hand around her waist and tightened his hand around her as he carried her up. He knew he won't have a chance to do this again. He didn't even need to say anything more. He was leaving and even though he asked he knew that she wouldn't come with him.

"I think I love you, Riley,"

"I'm thirty-one years old, Quinn."

Quinn blinked and then leaned back to look down at her. What did she just say?

"Uh... Surprise?"

Quinn chuckled and carried her up again! This crazy old woman!

"Yeah, I still love you. You aren't getting rid of me that easily,"

"Damn, I really thought that would do it."

Riley's heart was beating at a mile a minute now! She was afraid that her age would make him mad at her, but he wasn't even moved by that!?

Honk! Honk!

Quinn turned to the right and saw the convoy of cars parked at the side of the train station. His mother was standing in front of a car with a bodyguard holding an umbrella over her. She was waiting for him patiently and Quinn sighed as he finally detached himself from Riley.

He didn't say anything more to her as he left her there in the rain and got into the car. The car drove away from the town and back towards Osaka.

........

Riley didn't think she would ever see Quinn again after that day. The whole story seemed so absurd whenever she looked back on it. A small island of paradise in the middle of the ocean that was her boring life. It was an amazing weekend and she never regretted waiting to pick him up from the train station that day.

The time she spent teaching Quinn made her realize that she loved teaching. Riley quit her job a week after Quinn left and began to work at the local community center where she taught people to paint and draw on weekdays. She was so happy there that she didn't know how she didn't do this before!

She kept up with the news of Osaka and the things that were happening there. She didn't know why she was doing it, she shouldn't be so hung-up on him. But she just did it constantly. That was why she was one of the first to see the news announcing the engagement of the King of Osaka to the prime minister's daughter. It didn't hurt. No, it didn't hurt at all.

Riley just swallowed the feeling of bile in her throat and shut her laptop down. After that day, she tried to go on as many dates as possible. She has been so secluded after Quinn left, but she knows she can't keep doing that. She has to try more!

But there was never anyone that lasted that long. One or two of them were nice, but it was never the same.

"I always feel like you're comparing me to someone else. I just don't think it'll work between us,"

It was when one of them said this to her that she finally realized she was a hopeless case. For her to fall in love with someone that she only knew for one weekend a whole year ago. It feels like she put her life on pause once he left and she doesn't know how to press the play button again

.....

By the time the royal wedding was to be happening, it was chaos over at Osaka. The news that day read that there was supposed to be a wedding taking place, the king was to be getting married to the prime minister's daughter now, but there was one problem. The king was missing. He dodged two hundred guards and fifty thousand people at his own wedding and completely vanished into thin air!

It was at this moment that the head guard regretted teaching the king how to escape in case he was ever kidnapped! He was using it against them! He got rid of all tracking devices and dodged all the cameras at every one of their private airports!

He stole one of the Ferrari's and tore out the tracking device in that too before escaping with over ten billion dollars. A king stealing from his own bank account. This had to be a new one for sure.

Quinn's mother was sitting at her own place in the hall where he was supposed to be getting married and had a calm look on her face as she drank wine. It was obvious that she knew something about what happened, but no matter what anyone did she wouldn't talk about it. He was king, you know. It's not like you people can really do anything even if you manage to catch him.

For once, let the king do what the king wants.

........

On that same night, Riley was all alone at the train station. She lit a cigarette between her lips, a bad habit she picked up from boyfriend number two and was never able to drop, and looked up to the sky. Today was the day huh? Two years since he left. He should be married now and all that nonsense. Riley sighed. She should really let him go. This was no longer healthy.

Riley rubbed her hands across her eyes and laughed when they came back wet! Why the hell was she crying!? Stop it! Please... Stop it! I-Its not funny!

But the tears wouldn't stop coming and she just put her hands on her face to try and hide from the world as she cried.

Something landed on her head and Riley hiccupped as she touched the face cap.

"You'll catch a cold if you stay like that. Be more careful,"

Those words. She remembers those words. Riley's heartbeat sped up like crazy as she turned around and looked up at the person standing behind her. A beautiful smile bloomed across her face and Quinn smiled back.

"Hi, Riley,"

"...Hi, Quinn,'
