Kevin
Every one of our cars had a tracker on them, thank goodness or else I would have been in big trouble. We got to the club, the pulsating light drawing us in.
"Let's find the girls before someone else does or we would be in deep trouble. Do you understand?" My voice etched with authority, but my mind filled with concern and worry for Cassandra. I maintained an unwavering composure.
"Yes sir!" They chorused and went into the midst of the crowd.
I remained on the spot, my eyes trailing every spot she could be, my gaze met a figure, it was Dante moretti.
"Shit! And Cassandra is h—" I whispered, when I sighted the lady in front of him. Even though it was her back facing me, I'd recognize her anywhere.
"What is she doing with the enemy—" I dashed towards her and stopped behind her, hearing her giggle like she was having fun with him.
I grinned my teeth, and tightened my fist, I was ready to beat the goddamn Moretti god down if he tries anything stupid.
"I'm sorry I have to go now," Cassandra said, the tone of her voice laced with fear.
A flicker of disappointment crossed Dante's face, his lips parting to form a question.
"Wait—" Dante said, his words were cut short when Cassandra abruptly turned and collided with my broad chest.
She stumbled back, a startled gasp escaping her lips. She looked up at me, her gaze full of surprise seeing me.
"What…. are….. you … doing here?" She stuttered.
"How …..did …you….?" She stuttered
"Before you start asking questions let's get you out of here first" I said , grasping her wrist tight.
"Kevin relax, you're hurting me," she said, trying to free her wrist from my grip.
I dragged her halfway through the crowd, when she wasn't moving anymore, I turned to look at her and my gaze met with Dante Moretti holding her other hand.
"She said you're hurting her, that's no way to treat a woman" Dante said with an authoritative tone.
What would you know about treating a woman, you treated my mom like she was trash. I scanned his face and looked around, his men were alert and active, closing in on us gradually. I released her wrist and put my hands in the air In surrender.
"What's going on here?" James said behind me, stopping in his tracks seeing what was about to happen and raised his hands too in surrender.
If I don't act wisely, blood is definitely going to flow. Thank God the music is loud enough, with his men gathered like this I wouldn't want to draw attention.
"Cass, Unicorn" I said to her, hoping she'll understand through the secret code.
"Unicorn cass, unicorn" I said repeatedly, I was really under tension. The burning gaze of Dante was becoming really intense and intimidating, as though he was looking into my soul. Another minute standing here with such a gaze I doubt I'll be able to stand it.
"Hey…." Cassandra's friend staggered towards us, her hand on Dante's shoulder. All our gaze shifted to her, this is the perfect time to escape this trap but i couldn't leave Cassandra's friend behind she wouldn't forgive me.
Dante's men immediately turn to face her as though she were a threat.
"What's going on here?" She said chuckling, and belching loudly.
"Candice!" Cassandra said excitedly rushing towards her and removing her hand from Dante's shoulder in embarrassment.
I watched her give a sarcastic half smile to Dante. Doesn't she know he's the enemy of her husband and she dares smile at him?
"I'm so sorry about my friend Candice, she can be a lot once she's drunk" she said apologizing to him.
Stop apologizing to him! I mentally chided myself, I dare not even say that to her face.
Candice lunged towards me, her hand gently polishing my suit with her hands, with a grin on her face.
"Oh look, cass! Pretty boy is here too! How did he find us? " she said giggling like a child. She definitely was under the intoxication of alcohol.
"I'm really sorry about this. Kevin is with me. He just gets overprotective at times'' Cass said, giving him a half smile.
Why does she keep on apologizing to him? This man doesn't deserve any apologies from her.
I stood firm looking at Dante dead in the eye, you're definitely not going to be anywhere near her ever again.
"It's okay, you guys really need to chill" Cassandra said laughing out loud sarcastically and pulling Candice away from me whose hands were already wrapped around my torso.
"Come on Kevin let's go. See you another time Dante!" Cassandra said walking out of the club.
I look at Dante one last time, his eyes trailing Cassandra walking out of the building. She even knows his name and nothing rings in her head. I'm definitely making sure their paths do not ever cross again, who knows what might happen the next time.
"C'mon let's go James" I said walking out of the club with James behind me.
As soon as we caught up with Cassandra, I gave her a once-over. She looked perfectly fine. I opened the door and laid the drunk Candice inside the car
"How did you know where to find me?" Cassandra said looking at me with a deadly glare that gave me goosebumps.
"Yeah, how did pretty boy find us!" Candice said, rising from the chair like a zombie that's been awoken shouting from inside the car.
"Care to give an answer or you're just going to stand there and not answer me" Cassandra said, her hands folded up against her chest.
"Cass—" I trail off when James cuts me short mid-sentence.
"That's Dante Moretti, one of the top mafia gods of shadowbrook, thank goodness he didn't recognize you as our boss's wife. Things would have gone sideways" James blurted out.
"You mean that's Dante—" she stuttered, covering her mouth with her hand in shock.
"Yes! And now we have to leave. Dante doesn't seem like he was convinced with the little show out here. We've gotta leave" I said, opening the car door for her.
She looked at me one more time and entered the car taking her seat.
"James drive the other car, I'll take the two of them home" I ordered and he gave a curt nod as a response as he trailed off to the car we had earlier brought.
I entered the car, taking my position at the driver's seat, putting in the key about to start the car when Cassandra's hand rested on mine. I could feel all the hairs on my body rising up to the effect of her touch. I mentally calmed myself down.
"I'm really sorry about tonight. You just came rushing in and dragging me like I was a little girl and I sincerely do not like it." She heaved a sigh, taking her hand off me, I could finally breathe perfectly again.
"The house is too big and I barely know anyone there so I had to leave the house" she added.
"You know me " I barely whispered under my breath.
"Are you saying something?" She asked, her face puzzled.
I shook my head.
"Nothing. I'm just sorry for being so formidable back there in the club" I apologized. I had no idea she felt that way.
"It's fine. You're just doing your job" she said looking out the window, her face masked with sadness and something I wasn't quite sure of.
I started the car, looked at Cassandra one more time, she was definitely oozing sadness all over. The loud snoring of Candice drew me out of my thoughts and I started driving.
Cassandra's eyes were still fixed on the road, her head leaning on the window. I changed the course of the drive.
"Why did you change direction?" Cassandra asked. I remained silent. I drove the car for about 15 minutes and stopped near a cliff and packed the car.
I stepped out of the car, walked towards the other side of the car, opened the door and held out my hand for her. I was being too much of a gentleman right now but if that's what will make her happy then I'd rather be a gentleman.
She took my hand and stepped out of the car smiling.
"Where are we?" She asked looking around, everywhere pitch dark.
I looked into the car and Candice was still sleeping. I closed the door behind me and walked towards Cassandra.
"Just wait, any moment now!" I said excitedly, this was something i had always dreamed about and I was finally doing it with her.
A shiver ran through her, and she subconsciously rubbed her arm for warmth. Without hesitation I slipped off my jacket, a silent offering, and draped it around her shoulders. Her gaze met mine, intense and unreadable. I yearned to decipher the emotions swirling behind her eyes.
"See! They're out!" I exclaimed happily, pointing at the aurora lights in the sky.
