After our long embrace together, Charlotte puts the mask back on me, and in a few moments, the door to the room opens up, revealing the General, the man in glasses, and all the other people dressed in white.
I thought that something was going to happen then, but we were soon escorted back to the room we were in before as everyone sat back on their seats. I couldn't help but notice that the man in glasses was no longer smiling as he looks over at the three of us.
"I'm impressed." The General was the first to speak as he looks over at Lisa. "I was expecting to look for a new Major."
"I won't be killed that easily." At Lisa's reply, I notice the man in glasses ball his fits together, seeming to be quite pissed at what's transpired. Charlotte on the other hand had an almost smug smile, the complete opposite to before when we were in this room.
"Well you've proven that you can handle the girl, even to go as far as to go along with Mr. Hackett's proposal." What? So it was his idea to have me look at Lisa? I can see why he doesn't look too happy now.
"I figured it wasn't all your plan, General." Lisa however, speaks to the General in a calm manner, unfazed by the new information that is given.
"I do admit, I was hesitant about it. But he brought up good points, so I accepted his idea, thinking that you'd refuse." So the General was hoping that Lisa would turn it down? I wasn't sure what to fully make of him, but it's clear now that he thinks fondly of Lisa.
"Well when you give me such an exhilarating order, how can I refuse, haha?"
"Hahaha. I expected as much." For the first time, the General laughs with Lisa as she also shoots him a smile. They sure do look close... "Well, I see no problem with you taking over-"
"Wait just a moment." Cutting off the General, the man in glasses speaks up, directing all of our gazes back to him. "How do we know this isn't a ploy from the girl? Once she's out, who knows when another 'accident' will occur?" Accident? Is he talking about when I killed all those people in the white room?
"Hey, you lost. Just like you've just seen, we can handle and take care of Shiro. And I've been doing so up until now." Charlotte is the first to respond. Her voice calm in contrast to how displeased the man is.
"Shiro? Is that the name you've given her? Ha!" The man in glasses takes on a smile once more as he adjusts his glasses, trying to compose himself. "Just how selfish are you? Her parents couldn't even give her a name before they died." What? What did he just-
"Shut up!" Charlotte however, breaking my thoughts, spoke up while slamming her fists down on the table, standing up in the process as she stares down the man in glasses.
"Oh? Don't tell me you haven't told her? Heh, to think you can even give her a name like that. How deplorable can you get?"
"Charlotte?" I end up reaching my hand out to Charlotte's shoulder as she quickly turns to face me. I could see tears have built up in her eyes, her eyes now glistening in the lit room.
"Look at her, she's confused. How could you do this to someone you're trying so desperately to protect." The man in glasses speaks up once more. I just want to hug Charlotte right now, not wanting her to cry, but I know this probably isn't the best place for it.
"Mr. Hackett." The General however, speaks up before Lisa could. "I understand your concern, but considering the circumstances, I'll have the girl, Shiro, be placed under Major Frigg's control. You've already agreed to this trial and as you've just witnessed, The Major is still alive. My decision is final."
"..." The man in glasses falls silent at the General's words before standing up abruptly from his chair. "Come." He speaks to his assistant, the woman in the black suit as she also stands up as the two of them soon leave the room.
"Haah~" Charlotte lets out a sigh before taking her seat once more. I however remain standing, still placing my holding my hand on her shoulder.
I'm not sure exactly what's happened, but one thing I did pick up was that my parents are dead. Charlotte looked like she didn't want me to hear that, but I don't really think I'm too shocked about it. It's not like I ever met them, plus... I have Charlotte with me, and Lisa too, along with her family. Sure I'm a bit upset now that I know I won't have what Charlotte has, but even if I were to choose between the two, I think I'd stick with Charlotte over my parents. That's my honest thoughts.
"That man... I've never seen him act like that." The General speaks up once more towards Lisa as I stay by Charlotte's side.
"What's his obsession with Shiro?" Lisa engages the conversation with the General whilst I try and comfort Charlotte.
"I'm not too sure. He's powerful, so I thought I could depend on him, but not knowing his intentions is quite troublesome. So I'm glad that you managed to pull through, Frigg."
"You can throw whatever you want at me, I'll still come out on top."
"Haha. But still, do best to keep your guard up."
"Yes, will do."
As the two of them were conversing, I could feel Charlotte finally loosen up as she turns to face me once more. The tears that were built up in her eyes now no where to be seen, only leaving the slight glistening look in her eyes like before as the corners of her mouth pull up slightly. I'm glad that she's okay.
