"Tenur, you have done a magnificent job and fulfilled the requirements of our agreement," Mero said to the light-skinned man with bent knees in front of him, smiling in satisfaction.
He would lose a slave but gain a servant who would be connected to him in another way and could support him even more.
As a slave, it was Tenur's obligation to carry out his master's orders and help him. But as a servant, it would be in his interest to help his master because he himself could benefit from it, something much more interesting.
If Mero grew, all his servants would benefit from this, as they would have better statuses, receive greater rewards, and access to more possibilities.
Some servants merely cooked for their masters, but some commanded lands as extensive as the city they were in.
Some of these lived almost like nobles and had the possibility of one day joining the nobility of the kingdom!
