THE SENSE OF GUILT

Upon reaching home, Amy slumped at her desk and continued to cry. She felt worse than when she was sick. She looked up at the sky from her window trying to get some answers. Self-pity was swallowing her.

She was not the same spunky-hyped girl that she was and her family was noticing it. She tried so hard to conceal her emotions but still they know her too well to hide these from them.

As soon as Amy went to her room, they started discussing. Her mother asked:

"What's going on?"

"I am starting to get concerned."

"This is not like her."

"Do you know anything about it?" her mother asked her sister.

Janice responded: "I think I have an idea on what it is about."

Her mom shouted: "Then why are you not talking?"

Janice defended: "Because I'm not sure about it yet but there were gossips in school about Edmond's relationship with a new girl and that they transferred to a new course together."

Hearing what Janice said, her mom fell silent. Guilt crept over her. She had pushed the idea of Amy and Edmond being together so much, but it ended this way. Their dad was silent too. Although he did not encourage, he was hoping that it was for real.

None of them spoke after hearing Janice. Their mom rushed to Amy's room and found her asleep. She must have cried herself to sleep. Her mom did not bother her, closed the door slowly and began sobbing. She felt pity and guilt for Amy.

**********

It was after supper when Amy woke up. She was hungry and headed for the kitchen. The food was set up for her at the dining table. She knew that her mom left it there for her. She was so hungry and ate with enthusiasm.

Her mom was actually watching her behind the kitchen. She wanted so much to comfort Amy but their dad stopped her. They need to let her go through healing time. They talked about not mentioning Edmond or anything about him and just act like nothing happened.
