A man who had a hard first life gets reincarnated into the ‘Modern Family’ world, where he gets a second chance at life. He will try to live this life much differently than his last, but some habits are harder to lose than others. The way he chooses to live his new life will certainly be a new journey for him and one where he learns what he missed out on the first time. Welcome back to all those who have read some of my other Fanfics. I hope this one entertains you as well and I am glad to have you back. For the newcomers, welcome and I hope you enjoy the story. As for how the story will go, it will be a slice of life very much and I feel slower, as I will try to build the relationships naturally. It will follow canon for the most part, with a few changes here and there, you will see as you read. This will be written mostly from the MC’s viewpoint, only switching POVs when necessary. Disclaimer: I do not own Modern Family or the book cover.
AN: Before reading, please make sure you read the fanfic summary. As it has some info there that would give you an idea about how this fanfic will be written. Though I hope you enjoy it. There will be a decent amount of Spanish in this fanfic, I will be putting the translation right after in parenthesizes, let me know if that works for you all. I also made an auxiliary chapter for my original characters' pictures and the show's characters.

I won't lie I had a rough time growing up, though I know I didn't have it too bad as some others had it much worse than myself. I grew up not knowing my parents or anyone that I could consider family. As I was sent from foster home to foster home until I was too old to be living in one. Though I knew I was different than most others, once I read or saw something, I would remember it forever. This allowed me to excel in school which I spent all my time in making sure I would succeed.
Since all I heard from everyone was that if you did well in school you could do anything you wanted. The better you did the better job you would get, so I made sure I was always at the top of my class. Once I left foster care and high school, while also getting a perfect score on my SATs. I got a full scholarship to Harvard University, where I studied and focused all my time and effort on getting into their medical school program. I wanted to help others since I felt my calling in life was ensuring people could be happy and healthy.
After once again graduating at the top of my class, I easily made it into their medical school. From there I very easily succeeded in learning everything I could, later specializing first in Neurology and later Cardiology. Since they were the best-paying positions and I was fascinated with how the two systems in the body worked together to keep us alive. After a decade in the practice, I became the top neuro and cardio surgeon in the world. Where people from all over the world would contact the hospital I worked at to get my services.
Once I reached this position and had everything I always dreamed of having, I realized I was not happy. That I wished I could have another redo at life and have a 'normal' childhood and a family. I tried meeting someone who I could marry and then have a family of my own, giving our children the life I never had. Though every woman I met didn't seem to love me, for me. As they were either attracted to my money, position, or fame, usually because of each of them.
This made me give up on finding the 'one' and instead just put all my effort back into my work. I then began researching the 'cure' for cancers and as the decades went by and my research still showed no significate improvements, I almost gave up. Just as I believed I found the one thing I was missing, I had a heart attack. As I grasped my chest in pain, I fell to my knees with my only thought about how I wish I could have lived a 'normal' life. With a bitter smile on my face, the world grew black as I heard my assistant scream for help like it was a lifetime away.
'What?... I'm alive… This isn't a hospital… Where am I?' I thought as I woke up in a strange bed, one that was not my own and then I had a huge headache as memories started to surface in my mind.
Like two lives mixed together to create one, I was no longer the old man who just died or the young boy around Five years old that just woke up. I was now a mix between the two, with the memories and knowledge from past life, along with the perfect memory. But a 'normal' child too now, as the memories of both lives mixed together creating a new me. Though the body the new me is in is known as 'Gabriel Robert Hunter' or 'Gabe' for short, the son of Edward Michael Hunter and Maria Angela Hunter.
"Mijo, estás bien?!" (Sweetheart are you ok) my Mom, Maria Hunter, says to me after knocking on my door before opening it and seeing me, then running over to me and giving me a worried look. As I just realized a few tears have escaped my eyes, possibly from my one set of memories always wanting a family.
"I am Mom, just had a weird dream," I say while whipping my eyes clean, as my memories finally sort themselves out. With my mom giving me a smile and hugging me lovingly.
"Ok, recuerda que las pesadillas no son reales. Aunque si quieres hablar de eso, tu padre o yo siempre estaremos ahí para escuchar," (Ok, well remember nightmares are not real. Though if you want to talk about it your father or I will always be there to listen) Mom says to me and I smile at her nodding my head, as she gives me a loving kiss on my forehead. She ignores my lack of Spanish thankfully due to worrying about me.
"Bueno, ve a lavarte la cara y luego baja. Tu padre casi ha terminado de preparar el desayuno," (Well, go wash your face then come downstairs your father is almost done making breakfast) Mom says to me while I nod and get out of bed before heading to the bathroom.
'I was born on May 26th, 1998 and it is currently December 10th, 2003, making me just over five and a half,' I think while entering the bathroom.
'Mom is a well-known lawyer and Dad is a well-known doctor. All four of my grandparents are alive and well. My dad has a younger sister and my mom has an older brother, a sister-in-law, and a younger sister. I have two cousins on my mom's side, one is Carlos who is my age, and his younger sister Sandra who just turned three a few months ago. Both my cousins are the kids of my one Uncle, as my two Aunts, by blood, are single for different reasons,' I think to myself as I wash my face, trying to figure out my new life.
'My grandparents on my Mom's side live in Spain with my one Aunt. They are Francisco, Josefa, and Sonia Serrano respectively. My Mom's older brother lives in LA with his wife and two kids. My uncle is called Javier Serrano and his wife is Yolanda Serrano. We currently live in Chicago, as my parents moved here after they both got jobs in the city once they graduated from college and met each other in the city,' I continue to think while finishing up washing my face.
'My dad's parents are Robert and Linda Hunter, with his younger sister called Susan Hunter. They all are from LA and currently live in LA with my Aunt who is one of the top executives in the finance company she is a part of. She focused on her career instead of having a family which is why she is still single,' I think as I walk downstairs to the kitchen while understanding that I have a 'large' family and I look forward to meeting them again.
"Hijo, ven a comer, tu papá acaba de terminar de hacer el desayuno," (Son, come eat, your dad just finished making breakfast.) Mom says to me as she wants me to completely learn Spanish due to our family being from Spain. Plus I already know English perfectly thanks to my new memories and my old memories I know Spanish mostly thanks to my mother usually talking in Spanish at home. It took my dad a few years to learn it since he wanted to impress my mother before they got married.
"¿Estás seguro de que no quieres hablar de tu pesadilla? Tu mamá me dijo que acabas de tener uno," (Are you sure you don't want to talk about your nightmare? Your mom told me you just had one) Dad says to me with the same worried look my mom had earlier.
"Sí papá, estoy seguro. Fue solo un sueño extraño, no realmente una pesadilla," (Yes Dad I am sure. It was just a weird dream, not really a nightmare) I say to him and he just nods his head smiling at me while ruffling my hair.
"Ok, solo me estoy asegurando," (Ok, I'm just making sure) Dad says to me while we all begin to eat our breakfast.
The next six years flew by with me visiting my family in Spain and LA. I loved the 'new' life I was given as my old memories made me not take anything for granted. I loved my family and everyone in it, doing anything I could to spend time with them. I became very close with my two cousins like they were my siblings rather than just cousins. Then both my parents told me we were moving to LA, as they both got new and better job offers there. Plus I believe they saw just how much I loved seeing our family, so they wanted to move us closer to the majority of them. We are moving in July as we wanted to get to LA before the new school year started, that way I can transition to the new area before school starts again.
"Hijo, ¿ya terminaste de empacar todo?," (Son, are you done packing everything yet?) Mom asks me as I finish grabbing everything I can bring with me on the plane. Since most of our things are being shipped to our new home already.
"Si mamá!" (Yes Mom!) I shout down to hear while running downstairs with my carry-on and suitcase.
"Ten cuidado hijo," (Be careful son) Mom says with a slight chuckle at my excitement for our move.
The plane ride was long since my excitement was very high but we eventually landed. Then my Uncle Javier came and picked us all up, as we loaded our small amount of luggage into his car. Since the moving company, my parents hired already told them everything they brought here was unloaded into our new house. My parents and Uncle spoke on the way to the house, as he asked me how the flight was and if I am excited for the move. After about a two-hour ride to our new home and catching up with my Uncle, he dropped us off at our new home.
"Descansen todos ustedes. ¡Porque mañana vendremos todos a una fiesta de inauguración!" (Get some rest all of you. Because tomorrow we are all coming over for a housewarming party!) my Uncle Javier says to us after dropping us off and waving goodbye as we all walk into our new home.
"Hijo, tu habitación está arriba a la derecha," (Son your room is upstairs to the right) Mom says to me after we walk inside and I look around at my new home in excitement. Then I run upstairs to my new room and throw my suitcase to the ground before jumping into my new bed.
'As I suspected… just as comfortable as my last bed,' I think to myself while testing the bed's comfort.
"Like your room?" Dad says to me since unlike Mom he doesn't always speak Spanish at home, usually only around Mom.
"Yeah, I love it!" I say to him with a smile and run over giving him a hug.
"¡Ey! ¿Dónde está mi abrazo?!" (Hey! Where is my hug?!) Mom says seeing us hug and then we pull her into a group hug.
"Ah, y no crean que no los escuché no hablar español... Recuerden usarlo o perderlo, ya que fuera de casa normalmente no lo usamos," (Oh and don't think I didn't hear you two not speaking Spanish... Remember to use it or lose it, since outside of the home we don't normally use it) Mom says to us while giving us both a look that leaves no room for argument.
"Sí, cariño," (yes honey) Dad says with a smile and I just nod my head sheepishly.
Seems my Aunt left us some food she cooked earlier and they even bought us food, stocking our house for a while. As we all ate our dinner, then relaxed for a few hours before we all went to bed. Tomorrow my family living in LA near us would be coming for a small housewarming Party.
