After returning home, my parents were waiting for me at the Dunphys' house. Once we all arrived back at their home, I waved goodbye to Alex and the others. After getting into my Dad's car, I could tell the atmosphere was off slightly. Like they wanted to tell me something, but were holding back telling me.
"¿Esta todo bien?" (Is everything ok?) I ask them ask we pull into our driveway and garage.
"¿Qué? ¿Por qué?" (What? Why?) Mom says with some nervousness in her voice, making my suspicion rise and worry.
"¡¿Te estás divorciando?!" (Are you getting divorced?!) I say with fear very evident in my voice, due to not wanting to lose my family in this life too.
"¡¿Qué?! ¡¿Por qué piensas eso?!" (What?! Why do you think that?!) Dad says to me taken back by my panic.
"¡Porque no me estás diciendo lo que está mal y algo está obviamente mal!" (Because you're not telling me what's wrong and something is obviously wrong!) I say wanting answers now, with fear gripping me.
"Mijo, tómalo con calma. Tu papá y yo no nos vamos a divorciar. Pero hay algo que tenemos que decirte...)" (Sweetheart, calm down. Your dad and I are not getting a divorce. But there is something we have to tell you…) Mom says to me as they both share a look before turning to me. I calmed down a bit with her statement, but worry still grips my heart, waiting for the bad news that one of them is sick or something.
"¡Vas a ser un hermano mayor!" (You're going to be a big brother!) Mom says with Dad smiling at me, as my brain short circuits trying to process this surprise.
"¿De hecho?" (Actually?) I say and they both nod their heads smiling at me.
"¡Impresionante!" (Awesome!) I say with a happy laugh, as I always wanted to be a big brother.
"Aún no sabemos si es niña o niño. Pero una vez que lo averigüemos, serás el primero en saberlo," (We still don't know if it's a girl or a boy. But once we find out, you'll be the first to know.) Mom says to me and I nod my head while still excited by this news.
"Ahora, por favor, no se lo digas a nadie. Queremos contarles a todos este fin de semana," (Now please don't tell anyone. We want to tell everyone this weekend.) Dad says to me and I nod my head though the excitement is still running through me.
The next morning after eating breakfast, my Mom drops me off at school like usual. Then I see Alex sitting in our classroom waiting for the day to start. I take my seat next to her and she looks at me.
"You seem different… What happened?" Alex says to me, having sensed my excitement.
"Well… If I tell you, you can't tell anyone. Promise?" I say to her and she gives a quick look around before nodding her head.
"After I got home yesterday, I found out why my parents were working late. It turns out that they found out my Mom is pregnant," I say to her with a slightly hushed tone, but still very excited. I needed to tell someone, normally I would tell Carlos, but I can't since he is family. Since Alex is one of my good friends I told her, as my child emotions couldn't hold back this excitement.
"Really!" Alex says to me and I nod my head.
"Congratulations, though good luck too. Being an older sibling is not easy," Alex says to me while thinking about Luke with an annoyed face.
"Thanks, but I am really excited," I say to her and she nods her head. While giving me a somewhat pitied smile, like she knows I'm gonna be annoyed later.
The week dragged on very slowly as I waited for my family to come over, so my parents could tell everyone at once. Then Saturday finally came with my family coming over for lunch, as I was waiting I saw Phil, Claire, and Luke going for a bike ride outside. Then a woman wearing tight sports clothes was jogging by. I then remembered today seemed to be the day Luke would get a new bike if this world really followed the TV show from my other life.
"So, everyone we have some big news for you all," Dad says to our family, in English due to his parents being here.
"Maria and I are pregnant, we found out last week," Dad says to everyone who smiles and congratulates them excited about the news.
"Good luck bro… especially if it is a girl. You know how annoying Sandra can be," Carlos says to me in a whisper while gesturing to his little sister.
"True Sandra can be… a lot. But I am still excited," I say back to him and he shrugs.
After a couple of hours of the family hanging out and celebrating this news, Carlos and I just talked outside in the front yard, about anything and everything. As he is telling me all the rumors and gossip happening throughout the school, we stop and stare. We see Phil in full panic riding the new bike he bought for Luke through the neighborhood. It looked like he was about to have a panic attack while riding the bike.
"Mr. Dunphy are you ok?!" I shout to him making him turn to me in surprise and almost crash Luke's bike.
"Gabe? What are you doing here?" Phil says to me as I stare at him in confusion, while he is looking around nervously.
"I live here…" I say due to him being in too much of a panic to realize his stupid question.
"Right! Anyway, do me a favor, please! If anyone asks, you did not see me," Phil says before quickly riding away, as I just nod my head watching him leave.
"Your neighbors are weird," Carlos says as we watch Phil continue on his way.
"Speaking of weird, is it true or not?" Carlos says to me after Phil rides away.
"What?" I say to him confused.
"Are you and Alex dating?" Carlos says with a smirk and curious look.
"No, we are just friends," I say to him with a deadpan look.
"Sure, sure," Carlos says to me as I just sigh and shake my head.
"Excuse me, boys? Did you see a man riding a bike past here?" an extremely attractive woman, who I saw earlier wearing tight sportswear asks us. Though this time she is wearing casual clothes.
'Wait this is Desiree, the 'milf' who supposedly sleeps around with the other dads from school,' I think to myself now recognizing the woman.
"Nope," I say to her as she nods her head before walking off, back the way she came.
"Her boobs were huge!" Carlos says having snapped out of his stare at Desiree's boobs.
"Yeah, they were," I say nodding my head and agreeing with him.
"I've got to call someone," I say while pulling out my cell phone and calling Alex. Who picks up after a few rings.
"Hey, Alex you busy?" I say as Carlos is making kissing faces at me.
"Not really, why?" Alex says as we finished all of our homework yesterday.
"Two things, one if you want to come over you can, as my family is celebrating the news of my parents having another baby. Second, your Dad was just riding a new bike that looked to be for a kid, I am assuming for Luke, while in a full panic. Then a lady came by a few minutes later asking about him," I say to Alex who goes quiet hearing all this.
"I'll be over in a little bit," Alex says before hanging up.
"Just friends… sure," Carlos says to me with a chuckle while I just ignore him.
After a little bit, Alex then walks over and sees Carlos freezing up a bit. With a more robotic walk, she comes over while staring at Carlos with nervousness.
"Calm down, he is not going to bite you," I say to Alex with a chuckle as Carlos laughs a bit making Alex, blush but relax also some.
"I saw my Dad hide the bike, while also seeming to confront Luke. Apparently, the bike my Dad had was not Luke's, but someone else's. Then he panicked and rode the bike somewhere else," Alex says with a laugh as Carlos and I both break out laughing too.
"Who was the lady asking about my Dad?" Alex then asks us.
"Don't know, but she seemed new around here. I think it is the lady, everyone thinks is trying to get with the Dads from school," I say to them and they both nod their heads.
"Mom is not gonna be happy when she finds out," Alex says with a sigh already imagining the argument there.
"Yeah, true. Though your Dad would never cheat on your Mom," I say to her and Alex nods her head knowing that too.
"Doesn't mean my Mom won't be annoyed still," Alex says and I nod my head agreeing with her.
"Want to come inside? Carlos and I were about to play some Wii," I say and she nods her head, as we all walk inside.
"Oh, there you boys are! We were wondering where the two of you wandered off!" Dad says to us seeing the three of us walk back inside.
"Oh, Alex too! Hey there, come on in. If you want food or anything, there is a bunch in the kitchen. Help yourself," Dad says to Alex seeing she came over.
"Thanks, Mr. Hunter," Alex says with an awkward smile.
For the next few hours, we hang out, with Alex becoming more relaxed around Carlos. As Carlos may be considered a 'popular' kid, but he is still very nice, especially to people I consider friends. As Carlos and I are more like brothers than cousins. The next flies by with nothing much really happening.
'Gabe want to come to meet me at the mall? My grandpa's new wife is with me and she asked if your mom wants to come too,' Alex texts me as I was reading in my bed with my mom downstairs. As she doesn't work on weekends, though my Dad is more busy being a doctor, only having one day off a week really which is usually a Sunday.
'Sure, I'll ask my Mom,' I text her back while walking downstairs to my Mom who is watching Rachel Ray on food network.
"Mamá, Alex me preguntó si podía pasar el rato con ella en el centro comercial. Su nueva abuela de la que les hablé también está allí. Ella también quiere conocerte," (Mom, Alex asked me if I could hang out with her at the mall. Her new grandmother that I told you about is also there. She also wants to meet you.) I say to my mom who nods her head.
"Seguro. No quiero ver a esta mujer blanca destruir más esta comida de todos modos," (Sure. I don't want to see this white woman destroy this food anymore anyway.) Mom says to me getting up and going to get her shoes, keys, and purse. While I put my shoes on waiting for her by the garage.
As we pull up to the mall, we start to head inside. As I text Alex we are here and asking where they are.
'We are in the food court,' Alex texts me as my Mom and I head over there to see them.
"Hey Alex, Hola señora Pritchett," I say to Alex and Gloria who smiles at me. Then she sees my Mom smiling even more.
"Hola Gabe y la mamá de Gabe," (Hi Gabe and Gabe's mom.) Gloria says to me and then she looks at my Mom, who smiles back at her.
The two Spanish women seemed to hit it off immediately without even exchanging many words with one another. Alex and I share a look with one another, as the two women seem about to begin speaking nonstop with one another.
