Aflame

I opened my eyes, seeing moving white shapes in front of me. It was a blur, but it moved slowly back and forth.

I jerked up as though a bolt of lightning hit my body.

Someone held my shoulders, nearly pinning me back to the bed. I gasped.

"Whoa there," said a voice. It was Rasvien.

His face appeared in my view, deep concern written in his features. His hands loosed but he didn't let go, holding me softly like I was a doll.

My vision then cleared, the beat of my heart slowing a pace.

"Breath, Rosie," he said. His tone was so gentle, almost a whisper.

I did. I took in air, told myself to calm down as my chest rose and fell. It just sank to me that we were eye to eye, our noses almost touching. His eyes of midnight sucked me in, pools of black that twinkled with beauty and worry both.

My heart sped up again.

I looked away, my stomach in disarray. "W—Where am I?"
